...How long have you been a part of this crew?

Ha! There's always a method to my madness, Kodai! I don't know it myself at times, but all works out in the end.

[His plans usually boil down to "let's go there and steal whatever they have," but there are occasionally variations. Like "let's go there and build an automaton" or "let's go there and just cause trouble and see what happens." Not having a big enough ship or crew has kind of put a damper on his usual activity level.]

Ah...is that so?

[She's just so damn earnest about everything. He appreciates it, certainly, but he'd appreciate it more with the proper distance between them.]

I suppose I could answer a few more questions.

Since the beginning. Sakamoto and me are the only ones left from the original crew...not including the captain.

[Yeah, she's put up with everyone's bullshit for about 3 months or so.]

[Asking what happened to the orginal crew seems rude when their acquaintance is so new, and she's yet to meet Sakamoto, though she stores away that information.]

How have you found the experience?

[The warmth courses through Gold's body almost immediately as well, and his gaze snaps from Explotaro's flames to his captain's hand]

[Well. He wasn't quite sure what else to make of this development.]

Hah! Stand there and watch, then!

[The trainer says as he hops back, hand shooting down towards the red-and-white balls clipped to his belt. With one smooth motion, he plucks one of the balls from his waist and tosses it in the air. The ball opens, and out pops a purple monkey-like creature with two hands for a tail.]

This is Ataro-- he's an Ambipom.

[The Pokemon lands on the ground gracefully and sweeps his tail hands in front of him in a ~gentlemanly bow~]

Pokemon are man-eatin', you don't hafta worry about that.

[He reaches out to pat Togetaro's head-- the Togekiss leans away slightly with his cheeks puffed out in a grouchy expression, though was it just Kodai, or were his cheeks a bit red as well. . .? It seemed this Pokemon was a bit tsundere]

And 'course I'm fond of 'em. They're my partners, y'know?

I tend to run a bit warm, but that hand was cold as ice until I touched your shoulder. Maybe it has something to do with whatever enchantment is causing this cold.

[All these curses and strange things appearing aren't as exciting as they are in stories. Actually having to live through them is a bit of a headache.]

I'd thought we were free of that sort of nonsense, but it seems never to end.

Shikoku's not so large an island, so it's only reasonable for a man with ambition in his heart and adventure in his soul to turn to the sea. One day I just decided that there wasn't enough for me on land and that was it. As for piracy...well, I can't help but want to take the treasure I find! What point is there in going forth if there's nothing to bring back to show for it?

[His idea of piracy isn't exactly what anyone in this world considers it to be. There's no terrorizing the weak or disrupting trade, only challenging powerful opponents and cleaning out their coffers when he wins. Really, Motochika's ideas of most things are a bit different...]

[Xun Yu certainly knows the benefits and drawbacks of serving ambitious men. It's a trait that she's always admired in Cao Cao, even through the whole awful mess revolving around the Imperial Seal. But boundless freedom, chasing adventure, a desire to possess for the sake of possessing -- those she struggles to understand. To her own detriment, she fears.]

Was there nothing that bound you to land? Did you have anything to lose?

Nothing to bind me to the land, but much to lose, I'm afraid. Were I a bit wiser of a man, I might have known that before much of it was lost to me.

[It's difficult to speak of it still. The loss of his men, his own foolishness that allowed him to be turned against his most trusted friend, the emptiness behind the eyes of the man who had orchestrated it all...all of it is still painful to recall.]

But that's neither here nor there. Nothing can be done for it until I return.

[Xun Yu isn't sure how to respond to personal regret so clearly off-limits; without details it's impossible to navigate, and she's too polite to press.
