That was precisely what he hadn't wanted her to do. The odd accoutrement would be concealed by the time he got back.... but he had learned a little bit in spite of the circumstances.

As he went about gathering the materials, he could only imagine how her temper might be simmering in his absence. The longer it took the more he thought that he was running the risk of having to face more of her wrath.

So... he tried to move quickly and efficiently but you know what they say about haste. It can make waste, or at least cause you to make some dumb mistakes that delay your progress along the way. When he returned with the tools... he tried to get started, working as silently as possible as not to try attention to himself.. but how could he not?
