Zeff made his way to Ace, face serious. He wanted to get in the faces of those slavers and kick the shit out of them all. In his younger days, he could've done it, too. With two healthy legs, he'd more than earned the nickname "Red Foot".

Things had changed however. Nothing he'd take back, but it hindered his ability to help his kidnapped nakama. Though while he couldn't charge in, he still had his wits and he'd put them to work coming up with an idea.

He stopped beside the captain. "Need to talk to you about my part in getting everybody back."

Ace had been seated besides the helm. He was taking a log of their course when Zeff had approached. If anything, Ace's presence was, surprisingly, exceptionally calm. As Zeff approached, Ace raised his head to look at him with a hint of curiosity.

"Sure. What do you have planned, Zeff?"

"Of course," He replied, easily enough. Ace knew if he gave orders for someone to stay back and defend right off the bat, most folks would resist and some would probably try to get out of it and run to join the combat on the island. He didn't want to give anybody that kind of opportunity. Zeff volunteering had been a welcome to him.

"Which is good, 'cause I dunno how many times I can pull the bait and switch with our crew. Everyone's a lot smarter than my original set of Spades."

He couldn't help but smirk at that. Zeff was the frank sort enough that Ace didn't know any better than to take him with a good grain of salt. Age helped Zeff retain Ace's better manners, so he wasn't as eager to be uppity with the chef.

"Yeah, but don't you think insanity's a bit interesting?"
