[Ironically, for someone who has lost his senses several times, Ikki's hearing is pretty good so he has no problems understanding her.]

It's kind of criminal to ask us to remain on the ship when we can be on land. As much as I love our vessels, humans aren't creatures for the sea.

[He understands the sentiment pretty well. Ikki takes a moment to check the mask, ensuring once more that it should work... Or at least that it doesn't have the same problem as the one he bought on the second day there. Once he's satisfied he puts it on.]

I plan on returning to the ship, though, to spend the night with Selphie. But I don't want to take any chances either. As you said, two nights are more than enough.

Selphie?

[She arches a brow, even though it probably cannot be seen through the mask.]

I thought she was in a relationship with someone else?

[Rose is not one for gossip, but she does pay attention to most things that happen with the crew. Though she knew the Aya left, she was not sure if the relationship ended between him and Selphie as well.]

[She is and Ikki doesn't need, neither wants to be reminded of it. But it's not as if he isn't prepared for that in case anyone asks, so he gives Rose a look that may be lost due the mask just like her raised eyebrow.]

I know this island has ruined our minds a lot, but there are still ways to spend the night with someone that don't involve sex, Rose.

[Besides, after last night he's not sure Selphie could really go for more. She wasn't sore in the morning but... They had just finished so maybe by now she is quite uncomfortable.]

[Rose gives a small nod.]

My apologies. I meant no offense. With the nature of this island it is hard not to assume someone's nightly activities while we are anchored here.

There was no offense.

[After all he had gone looking for Selphie, without any mask and on full purpose the night before. Any judgement that should be done could just be aimed for that night, but he's not going to go around announcing it.]

Just the exasperation that this fucking island has tried so much to ruin us. Both its plant life and its residents. I hope no one has taken a liking of this place because I'll burn whoever suggests returning here after we're gone.

It will only ruin us if we let it. Personally, I am choosing to pretend that the first two nights here never happened.

[It will make things less awkward, especially since she ended up sleeping with two of the commanding officers of the Spades.]

What do you mean by the residents though? Other than one shop keeper suggesting I go to this garden on the first night, I really have not had any problems.

[Of course she spends most of her time keeping her distance from people, so she wouldn't notice.]

Said the woman who assumed sex was going to happen when someone mentioned spending the night with someone else.

[Ikki chuckles bitterly, nodding his head anyway. She has a point and it's a good way to deal with it. Just pretend nothing happened aside from the night with Selphie, he will have to do that.]

For starters, none of them has bothered to even give us a hint of what happens here, on the contrary, they seemed to encourage us to be affected. That and there was an asshole selling defective masks.

[Though he's quite confident now that this mask works, at the very least it wasn't tampered with the same way the other was.]

[Rose rolls her eyes a bit. She should have seen that reply coming.]

I was thinking more along the line that the two of you decided to take things into your own hands rather than let the pollen control you.

[She turns back to him and arches a brow.]

Defective masks? [That has her worried.] I hope you did not buy from the same merchant this time. The one you purchased that mask from is the same one who sold me my own mask.

[That makes him chuckle, it's not wrong but it's not entirely right either. He had decided to take things into his own hands and had used the pollen to his advantage.]

That's not a bad idea. In that regard, should I say it's a pity we didn't visit this island back on February?

[But then again, who knows. Maybe things would have ended much worse if that had happened.]

Excuse me, but exactly who do you think you're talking to? I may not be a scientific guy but I'm definitively not that much of an idiot. And I checked this mask to see if it had been tampered with like the other.

[So unless it has been tampered in some other way it should be safe. And he wants to think that his luck isn't so fucked up to that being the case.]

What happened back in February?

[She was not even in this world then. It makes her wonder what other forms of trouble had happened before her joining the crew.]

[There's a heavy sigh on his part.]

Selphie and me were an item back then yet. Though we broke up half way into the month, more or less. She needed something more physical but... I couldn't do it. Not sure if this place back then would have helped or made me worse with my issues about it.

["It" being "sex" obviously.]

We also had some weird candies appearing around the ship, that forced people to do whatever was written in them too. Don't know if there was any that said anything about sex but I wouldn't have been surprised, they were relatively easy to avoid, though.

[Rose nods, not asking to elaborate on "it." She has a feeling on what he means and figures he does not want to go into details. It is a sensitive subject for most people after all, and it was not any of her business.]

Candies with words on them? What did they say?

[He gives her an amused look. He doesn't know if it's optimism or naivety what keeps her from guessing the answer.]

Things like "hug me", "kiss me", "lick me", "whisper to me", "caress me"... If you need more examples you will have to ask someone who actually ate them or something, I just peeked at them. Basicallym, from what I saw, if you ate one that said "lick me" the next thing you would know was that you were licking someone.

[Hey, she can't help it that Valentine's Day doesn't exist in her world and that sweets with words written on them is unheard of!

[She shakes her head some.]

That is strange. Not just what the candies made people do but what they had written on them to begin with.

[She looked up and noticed that the sun was getting lower in the sky.]

Looks like it is almost sunset. Will you be heading back to the ship now?

Compared to the rest of the shit we have to deal with in this world, that was almost normal. It was easy to avoid as well.

[Very, very easy in his opinion. Which is why part of him still stings when he thinks about what he sensed happening between Aya and Selphie back then.

Rose's comment drags his attention to the sky and he nods. Yes, he should be going back if he wants to make sure he'll be the one with Selphie tonight.]

What about you? I haven't been able to see how this place is during the night but I don't think it's going to be very lively... At least not in a sense that would be fun for us.

[He raised a good point. Soa knows what happens out in the open in town when the sun finally goes down. She's seen some locals with masks of their own but those were few and far in between.

She gives a nod.]

Perhaps it is a good idea to head back. At least with the masks we will not have to make a mad dash to the ships.
