[For no reason other than her own amusement, Celestia is on the deck, processing a startling amount of seawater through a impossibly fine sieve of magical energy. As the purified seawater falls away, she whisks away what's left into a bucket of swirling colors that looks like liquid rainbow.]

[Actually, that's exactly what it is, or at least, liquid rainbow coloring.]

[Keimi gasps when she catches sight of the rainbow bucket.]

Celestia-chin... this is amazing.

You should see the proper Weather Factory in Canterlot. They produce rainbow color worth the name, although I think I have done all right for myself with the tools I have. [Which is to say, none.]

[seakingbait]

A rainbow factory... [Her eyes are practically glowing.]

Can you teach me how to make colors like this?

That might be... difficult, considering I am using magic to do this. I am not certain how I can translate the technique to nonmagical terms.

[seakingbait]

Mn. [She'll try not to sound disappointed.]

Maybe I can take notes?

I can certainly advise you on what substances from the seawater produce these colors, if that would help?

[he plops crosslegged in front of her watching her and what she's doing with a quiet seriousness. The colors are pretty interesting, but he's more interested in watching her]

Is something on your mind, Luffy? [And if so, does she really want to know? Well, she asked anyway...]

Yeah. [he rests his chin on his fists] Let's have some fun.

[letteropener]

Did you have something in mind? [She suspects that 'some fun' will only really be fun for one of them, but why not? Luffy's enjoyment is always gratifying to watch.]

Nope. What do you wanna do? [he just wants to spend time with her really and maybe figure a few things out]

[...There is absolutely no way that she can gracefully point out that she is doing exactly what she wishes to do right now, and it will bore him to tears very swiftly.]

Well, I was about to create a rainbow, but I am not certain you can help with that. And I can always do it later. So, why don't you tell me of your favorite adventure?

[meatthefuture]

Don't wanna. [adventures had to be lived anyway.And he doesn't care about that right now] How are you making it? [peer peer]

[And this is why Luffy's question is completely pointless. They will end up doing what he wants, so why should she even make suggestions? So it goes.]

I am filtering the seawater, and extracting various substances from it to serve as dyes. It isn't conventional rainbow coloring, but it will do.

[meatthefuture]

[it's just not interesting talking about things he knows]

Oh so it's a mystery dye. [he pokes a finger in it and swirls around in it] What are you gonna use it for?

As I said, I was about to create a rainbow. [He'll be sorry if he eats it; nothing is spicier than rainbow dye...] In Equestria, that would be handled by our weather factory, but of course this world does not have one.

I can make a rainbow, too! But it needs to be sunny out. [which doesn't look likely to happen anytime soon] Nami can make weather like that. I think she calls it a weather factory but I don't remember.

[he pulls his finger out and looks around before making a lazy doodle on his arm] She can make clouds and rain and thunder and milky road things.

[letteropener]

I'm sorry I didn't get to see her skills during the brief time she was here. [Seriously, why had no one told her?!] Our weather factory is responsible for all of Equestria, so a much larger scale than anything even I can do here.

Maybe she'll come back! [he doesn't hold out much hope for it though. He snags more rainbow stuff and starts to doodle on his other arm]

Why do you have it for all of ...that place? Do you like to make really weird weather? [because that would be awesome]

We like weather, period. Equestria is not like here, or your world, where weather happens of its own accord. Ponies are its stewards.

[meatthefuture]

Your weather is stew?! [some lines might have gotten crossed there, but for the moment at least, he wants to visit Equestria like burning]

Perhaps when Discord has his way, but no. I mean that ponies create the weather. As I do here for the ship, except there is no 'natural' weather for ponies to replace.

That sounds kinda boring. You'd always know what was gonna happen. [not that he cares that she likes it but he'd get pretty bored pretty fast]

That is very true. It may be more boring, but it is also safer and provides for a more prosperous land.

Still, we were never consulted about it, so it is not something we chose. We merely took it on.
