It had been violent. It had been scary. Having seen Davy Jones slowly inch towards Crocker and demanding the shard the man always carried on him. The one he had gotten from Codi. Which had been one of the reasons the man refused to give the shard up. The other was - because it was power. Magical power and Crocker's power lust and stubbornness had been his own un-doing. Everything seemed to move in slow motion. Of course, Denzel did try to get away but somehow Davy was right there - and then everything went black.

After a week, the man found himself back aboard the Spades. Almost like nothing had happened but his face did appear more disturbed than usual. It was odd though - on how Crocker is being told he knows people he doesn't seem to recognize.

The man runs to the captain's corridor's, "Marco! Marco!"

"Kid you're back!" Marco failed to resist his urge to glomp the other.

From straight forward appearances, you would never normally expect the sassy blond captain to be older than Crocker, and certainly enough to call him 'kid,' but then, phoenixes were odd like that.

"Are you all right?" Marco frowned seriously and grabbed a chair for Crocker to sit in. "What happened?"

"Aye," Marco's face dropped, but only to fall into a carefully neutral deadpan. It was his safety mode. The worse things got, the more unemotional he seemed.

"Hey...." he rested a hand on the top of Crocker's head and pulled back, pulling out a chair for Denzel to sit in, "That's why I was asking, eh? It's not like it doesn't... hurt or anything."

If anything, Marco was of the mind that letting one of their own die was Marco's fault, and a reflection on his failures as a captain. His own father would be disappointed with that, wouldn't he? Had Marco really tried his best? What more could he do? It didn't matter, if that was Marco's best then he was a failed captain.

He still wasn't even used to the idea, the mere concept that he wasn't just trying to follow his father's footsteps anymore but to make a path of his own as well. And that he could be called Papa by anyone else, even Roxas, made his stomach do flips that no amount of aerial tricks every could.

Marco frowned lightly, but ruffled Crocker's head. "Oi..." He closed his eyes to try to think more quickly. When he did open them he just deadpanned, "Fuck the shard pieces. I'm half convinced the only reason Jones sent Ace back was because Ace was going to start focusing on retrieving them. I have no interest in them. No, less than that. Negative interest. They're a trap, eh? Clearly. It's not what I'm in this world for."

As for sleep though...

"I definitely don't want to get rid of you. It's a mark against us, against our pride that we couldn't protect you better, got it? But if you want a break to think things through and try to rest, you should have it, eh?"

"I understand, but surely the memories of her are more important than a shard, aye?"

Marco's expression briefly flickered. Torn between concern and wanting to dismiss another's concerns, before finally settling on his usual deadpan.

"We were concerned, but not because of you, but for you, understood? Don't try to sleep. Just rest. Even a sleepless meditation can be more restful than a full night's sleep sometimes, eh?"
fierybluebird: (Ace you idiot)

"Hey... relax," Marco got up and gently hugged the other man, even more gently ruffling his hair. "Aye, of course you can, eh? I'm just finishing up some busy work, but if the light bothers you, I'll switch to blue."
