nope... this won't end badly at all.

Who: Sora and Riku, at first; then, all other Spade Pirates.
Where: Spade Pirates' ship
When: 22nd-end of event
What: Ghost ships go "we're gonna geeeet yooou", Riku and Sora go "WTF", Sora says "Screw this, I need a vacation." then gets hit by Insta-Death.
Style: Starting in prose, but also accomodating.
Warnings: Death is a thing here.
Status: Open to all Spades, yep.

The day started out normally. They were all back on the ship, everyone was back into their routines, and all was well. As it got later in the day, Sora heard someone shouting. By the time he looked up, the ship was already being covered in what looked very much like fog--only problem was, it was way thicker than any fog he'd ever seen. It took... 'blanket of fog' to a whole new level in meaning.

It was definitely weird, to say the least.

Everyone had pretty much gotten quiet, after that. What little sound Sora could hear sounded strange. It was almost as though he had a ton of cotton jammed into his ears. Still, though, he was moving--blind, or not--through the white barrier, of sorts. Slowly navigating, he made a valiant effort to find his friends.

The fog was...strange. Riku almost expected to meet resistance as he tried to make his way through it, that's how thick it was. And the fact that nighttime had fallen wasn't helping anything.

He thought he'd seen Sora come this way, though -- or at least, he could hear some of the others stumbling around and he hoped one of them was Sora.

Also, he was pretty sure the railing of the ship was somewhere nearby, so he was kind of hoping he didn't misjudge where he was stepping and somehow go tumbling off the ship.

That would suck.

After a few more minutes of blindly trying to find his friend, he finally tentatively called out, "Hey, anyone there? Sora?"
darknessinside: (say what?)

[personal profile] darknessinside 2013-10-22 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Riku turned the second time his name was called and nearly walked straight into Sora's outstretched arms.

"Whoa, hey."

He grabbed one of Sora's wrists and held on loosely, like he wanted to make sure he didn't lose him again. Even when he was right there, it was still a little hard to see him clearly.

"Geez." He laughed a little. "That is you, right? This is kind of crazy."

He gave an amused snort at that hand on his face, ducking out of the way a bit just as Sora pulled it back.

"Of course we did."

Riku squinted at the fogginess around them.

"Hopefully Kairi and the others are okay. Have you seen anyone else?"

Riku shook his head, belatedly letting go of Sora's wrist.

"Nothing. I thought I heard someone walking around? But...that might've just been you."

He crossed his arms, looking out to sea (or where he was pretty sure the sea was), but there wasn't anything but fog. Riku huffed out a breath.

"Actually, it's...really quiet. Have you noticed? Even the water..."
darknessinside: (say what?)

[personal profile] darknessinside 2013-10-22 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Careful," Riku muttered, following after him. "Last thing I need is you falling in."

Not that Riku was worried about whether or not Sora would be okay in the water, but the whole thing was unsettling. He wondered if there would even be a splash.

A few more cautious steps brought Riku to the railing, which he gripped tightly as he also made a futile attempt to see anything through the fog.

There was nothing, though. Or—maybe there was? He frowned, uncertain if there were actual shapes out on the water or if his eyes were just playing tricks on him.

"...Maybe?" Riku said, a bit helplessly. He made a frustrated sound, but then paused and leaned further out over the railing. "Actually, yeah. I think—there, that! Do you see it? There's definitely something out there...is it another ship?"

Which...would not be a good thing. If they could barely see each other then what was going to stop the ship from crashing straight into them?
darknessinside: (er...)

[personal profile] darknessinside 2013-10-23 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Riku watched it for a moment longer, then a shiver ran down his spine and he backed up a step.

"It's, uh. Not stopping. Damn, we should sound the warning bell."

He half turned, ready to go pull the rope and ring the bell, but he halted pretty quickly when he remembered he could only see all of two feet in front of him.

"...Right, that's not gonna happen. Crap."

He spun back around, eyes on the ship that was steadily looming closer and closer.
darknessinside: (hmph)

Riku let Sora call out a warning to the rest of their crew as he kept his eyes on the ship.

There was something...wrong with it. Wrong enough that Riku took another step back and summoned his Keyblade out of habit, just as Sora asked him if he could hear anything.

Because he could hear it now, too. Faint, eery tones clanging through the night that did nothing to ease the foreboding feeling that hung in the air.

He wasn't sure what good the Keyblade would be against a whole ship, but having it in his hand was at least a slight comfort.

"Yeah, I hear it. Sora, that ship..." Riku's eyes narrowed. "That ship doesn't look...solid."
darknessinside: (er...)

[personal profile] darknessinside 2013-10-23 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"If it's a ghost ship, I don't know who else it could possibly belong to." Riku's hand tightened on the Keyblade. "Good, I've been wanting to meet up with him again—watch out!"

He jumped back out of the way as the ship...didn't...crash into them.

What.

It glided straight through the middle of their own ship, before coming to a slow halt several feet in. The figures that Riku could now see lurking about on its deck drifted forward.

And yeah. Those guys were...definitely dead.

And creepy.

But still ghostly dead things.

Riku let the Keyblade drop a bit. He glanced across at Sora.

"...Can we fight ghosts?"
darknessinside: (not happy)

[personal profile] darknessinside 2013-10-23 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Riku jerked when that ghost was just suddenly right there in front of his friend. What the heck, he was sure it had been up on the ghost ship's deck just seconds before.

He didn't like this, though. Didn't like the way it was looking at Sora, didn't like the way Sora was just staring back—why wasn't he moving?

Riku frowned, taking a step forward, his hand out. "Hey, Sora—"

But before he could even finish his sentence, the ghost's hand moved.

And Sora's Keyblade disappeared.

It took a second for anything to even register. Or longer, actually. It felt like minutes, maybe hours. Riku's hand was still out in front of him, reaching, and Sora was.

Sora was falling.

By the time his body hit the ground, the ghost had vanished, reappearing back on the ship where it belonged.

Time snapped back into place, and Riku sucked in a breath that seemed suddenly far too loud in the oppressive silence still clinging to the air. His heartbeat pounded in his ears, and quite abruptly it felt like the bottom had dropped out of his stomach.

"...Sora?"

There was nothing. No movement from the other boy, nothing to indicate he was even still breathing, no sign that he was—

No.

Riku shoved that thought aside and lurched forward, falling to his knees beside Sora, his forgotten Keyblade immediately disappearing.

"Sora!"

He hesitated, not wanting to—but it couldn't wait, and he quickly reached for his friend's shoulder, turning him over.

It was possible Sora was just unconscious. Right, yeah, that's. That's definitely what was happening here.

Riku couldn't breathe.

"Sora!" He shook Sora's shoulder, trying to get a reaction out of him, something, anything. "No. No, no, no, Sora, come on. Please."

One hand twisted in the material of Sora's shirt as he leaned over him, listening, hoping for the sound of shallow breaths being taken while his other hand felt for a pulse.

Which was ridiculous. Why was he searching, Sora wasn't

Dead.

"Shit," Riku said, so faintly it was more just a movement of his mouth than an audible sound. His chest hitched. "Shit. Sora, this isn't funny!" He shook him again, feeling lightheaded, and it was like he had tunnel vision suddenly, all he could see was his friend, just lying there, and this really, seriously couldn't be happening. "I can't—come on, I can't do this. Sora. Wake up, damn you, come on! Please! Please, Sora, I'm not. Don't leave me like this. Sora!!"

His face felt wet.

And there was...something trying to claw it's way out of his chest, an all too familiar dark thing that he'd already sworn never to give into again.

Riku took a deep, gulping breath. Then another, jerkily, trying to swallow the sobs that wrestled to escape him as dark energy pulsed suddenly around his body.

He needed.

Something. Something to.

He couldn't focus. Not with Sora—

No no no no no!

He clenched his teeth, raising his head.

And there was another ghost floating forward. Coming off the ship.

Perfect.

All sensibility had left him, he had no idea what he could possibly do to battle a ghost but he could damn well try. Though somewhere in the back of his head, he knew to at least set Sora down gently. But the rest of him was overcome with a burning need to—to let loose, to do something.

With a furious roar he jumped up, Keyblade reappearing in his hand, and charged the ghost ship, just barely keeping the darkness in his heart at bay as he attacked with everything he had.

REST OF THE CREW!

[personal profile] darknessinside 2013-10-23 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
[If you hadn't already been alerted to the ghost ship's presence when Sora yelled, well, you'll definitely hear some screaming now. Riku's up on deck going a little crazy with his various "final move" attacks and trying REALLY HARD not to let the darkness swallow him whole as he attempts to kick the shit out of a bunch of ghosts.

...There may be a little ship damage in the process. HE IS NOT IN HIS RIGHT MIND OKAY.]

There was a lot of commotion on deck, and Natsuno came running. He hadn't heard Sora shout, but he could certainly hear the attacks that Riku was performing on the ghost boat. The first thing he noticed was the dense fog, making it difficult to see, but that didn't matter so much, he could hear Riku.

Natsuno had no idea what happened exactly, but it wasn't good. A knot formed in his stomach, and he ran in the direction of the sound. There were, what looked like meteors falling from the sky and when the fog broke and he could see Riku, he almost paused. He looked furious.

Whatever was going on, Riku was going to damage the ship and that would be a problem. He crossed the distance between him and made an effort to grab his arm. His tone was insistent, even loud, unlike his usual manner of speaking. "Riku!"

The yelling has certainly attracted the Doctor, who comes barreling up onto the deck with his screwdriver in hand. It's not hard to spot Riku, and even harder not to feel him. All the energy coming off the boy and the intense emotion surrounding the incident hit the Time Lord's senses like a hammer and he momentarily staggers. Making his way across the deck, he sways, avoiding ghosts with practiced ease.

Of course, he hasn't noticed the body, just Riku going London Blitz on the ghost ship. Which...is probably the least surprising thing out tonight.

"Riku, stop it," is his immediate response, voice edged with concern and maybe a hint of command he knows will be ignored. The tip of the sonic screwdriver begins to glow, a buzzing sound filling the air as he moves it in precise jerks, deflecting incoming meteors and other magical backlash from the boy's berserk rampage. If nothing else, he'll keep the ship from sinking!

"Snap out of it! You'll sink us if you don't stop!"

What the hell was going on? Thatch came from the galley. There was a kid dead on the deck. Sora. Riku trying to flail away at ghosts and failing miserably. Meteors streaking through the sky, some threatening to hit the deck. His power. He was getting into a rage and it was going to be hard enough to keep Ace off it. To top everything off, a hoard of ghosts was coming for Riku, hands outstretched.

"Shit."

He charged across the deck, sliding as he kicked Riku's legs out from under him, then grabbing him by the waist and twisting, bringing the boy across him to let him crash against the deck on his other side, hopefully jarring him out of his rage and preventing these bastards from touching him.

"Everyone get below before you all get killed!" he bellowed.

[personal profile] hiken 2013-10-23 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Anger. It was a natural first response. In his head, Sora's voice vanished and for a few seconds, Ace reached into his pocket for his film of vivre cards. In Sora's section, it was an empty plastic slip.

In reality, Ace had every inclination to try and destroy the ghost ship, but it was right in the middle of theirs. Ace, rushing up out of the galley, landed on the deck and ran to the edge, drawing his right hand back. Above all else, the end result of Sora being touched had been death.

No one else was going to die. His eyes livid, Ace ignited his hand and went with the quickest means of escape. Hurling his gigantic fiery fist into the water, Ace pushed the Sun up in the air, literally straight out of the sea itself. Pushing forward, Ace dragged his fiery hand against the surface of the water to clear visible strain on his face as he made moves to push them clear away from the ghost ship.]

SAILS! SOMEONE CAST THEM DOWN SO I CAN PUT AIR IN THEM!

HOLD RIKU DOWN AND I'LL GET US OUT OF HERE!

Riku twisted away, barely registering that the other boy was even there. He swung at another nearby ghost, watching in frustration and anger as the Keyblade did little more than harmlessly go right through it.

When Natsuno made another grab for him, getting a hand on his arm, Riku came very close to slamming the end of the Keyblade into his gut.

"Get off," he snarled, but then it clicked that someone was holding him, there was someone else out here, and the ghosts were still lingering around—

He turned halfway, still tense and not quite meeting Natsuno's eyes.

"Get out of here!" he said, his voice hoarse. "Dammit, go back inside, don't let these things touch you!"
