[Motochika laughs and mercifully stops simultaneously smothering and bludgeoning him.

No, I'd say you should only expect it from me and from Sakamoto, though I doubt he has half the arm strength as I. [And half the brain power, but all the goodwill and more.]

Sho and Zozo keep to themselves for the most part and Gintoki is Gintoki. [That last one doesn't sound exactly like a rousing endorsement. In fact, there's a distinctly disapproving squawk from over where Pi-chan is perched on a rail.]

[And another laugh from him at that. This crew is really sounding like....something the more he hears about them.]

I wouldn't doubt such a thing. This Sakamoto may yet surprise us both, you know? [Seriously, look at Mitsunari. Tiny thing, easily decapitates giant guys.

And while he was about to say something in response to the rest, his attention is now turned towards said Pi-chan at the sound of that squawk.]

Ah, Pi-chan! [And back to Motochika.] You didn't say Pi-chan was here as well. [Though why is he even surprised? Of course the bird would be here, silly Ieyasu.]

The ship would be lost without its first mate! [The parrot is the only one qualified for the job, after all. Pleased with the attention, Pi-chan flaps over to Motochika's shoulder and lets out a loud IEYASU! IEYASU! in greeting.]

He's a damn sight smarter than some of them, I'll say that much.

I have to admit, you would look quite strange without him here. [Because how often is Motochika without his bird? But said bird will be getting a bit more attention with one hand reaching over to pet him.] It's good to see you again as well, Pi-chan. I hope you've been keeping our wonderful Captain here in line.

So, when do I get to meet the others aboard this ship? [So he can learn all those nicknames of yours get even more confused by everything and start questioning his choices.]

[Pi-chan puffs up at all the attention. It's about time someone other than Motochika appreciated him. He lets out another IEYASU! and looks pleased with himself. Motochika just shakes his head.]

Don't spoil him too much or he'll be impossible.

[But that aside, Ieyasu's right. He really should introduce his friend to the crew. If only gathering them together for anything wasn't nigh impossible.]

There's not so many of them, so no doubt you'll meet them all soon enough. Gintoki and Sakamoto are on deck --[Having one of their endless rambling, vaguely obscene conversations instead of attending to the tasks he's set them, it seems.] -- trying to sink us, it looks like. Zozo's probably below, best I explain her...condition before you go introduce yourself. Same goes for Sho, who you won't see hide nor hair of until the sun goes down.

[Sorry, Motochika. He's just going to laugh at that a bit. Pi-chan? Impossible? Noooooo.]

I'll try my best not to. [Read: Nope. ...okay. Maybe he'll keep it to spare amounts.]

Makes things a bit easier then. [Though the last two are getting him curious. Conditions? What?] Her condition? Or rather, should I say ' their conditions'?

Aye. [Motochika makes a face.] Zozo is a necromancer like old man Nanbu up on Mt. Osore, except somewhere along the line, her body was stolen from her. Now she has to...er...reconstruct with what she can find, so to speak. We have an agreement about how she's to...acquire things, but the whole matter just turns my stomach. She's a good lass, though, for all her, ah, difficulties. And Sho...he keeps his own council, that one. I've seen very little of him since we set sail. He can't bear the touch of the sun, he says, so he takes the night watches.

[Yes, Ieyasu, Motochika has somehow managed to recruit a (sort of) zombie and a (definite) vampire.]

Like Nanbu? Who knew others existed.

[Though that bit about Sho reminds him slightly of Mitsunari. Minus the whole sun problem. But, of course, Ieyasu's not one to really judge others. If anything, it's making him want to meet these others even more.]

It sounds like you've got yourself quite the crew then, Motochika. [Though he does have to pause to think.] Is there anything I should know when it comes to the other two? Gintoki and Sakamoto, I believe were their names?

[Might as well cover all of his bases with getting to know everyone before actually meeting them, right?]

[Pi-chan lets out a loud, angry squawk as soon as Ieyasu says "Gintoki."]

Sakamoto has a golden heart, an iron liver, and naught where his brain ought to be. He means well, but I have to keep my eye on him. He almost got himself eaten trying to make friends with giant spiders. [He can't help but laugh at that.]

Gintoki...[Pi-chan puffs up again.] He's lazy, insubordinate, foul-mouthed...he keeps assuring me he has good qualities and I keep giving him chances to help me find them, but...

[But Pi-chan's reactions haven't gone over his head. Plus sounds like possible story behind such.]

It sounds like Pi-chan isn't too keen on Gintoki, or even the mention of his name. Why is that?

He's a good judge of character. [Though Gintoki threatening to eat him probably didn't help.]

Ah well, I've learned my lesson about hiring mercenaries. I'll find him a nice island, give him whatever pay he's owed and not look back.

I see. [He's just. Going to leave it at that. Who is he to question a bird's judgement?]

Ah, so he was just a mercenary? Never thought that you would hire such in the first place. [Well, you know. Minus the Saika, but everyone wants to hire the Saika.] Or at least, hire any here.

Had I any other choice, I wouldn't have. We're expected to man our ships with others like us who've been spirited away here for no others will sign on. At the time I came it seemed as though everyone had it in their head to be captain of their own ship rather than joining with someone with the proper skills.

[Not untrue, but he was also too stubborn and prideful to join up with the captain who offered him a place on his crew.]

Can you blame them though? Considering the kind of land we're in, most would jump at the chance to lead rather than follow. [Though that kind of sounds like home a bit.] Or some may wish to merely fill in the role of such until someone with the skills to captain a ship shows up.

[Yes, Ieyasu, but that makes sense. Obviously what should have happened was everyone flocking to Motochika's side immediately. That's how things work, right?]

And no doubt sink themselves in the meantime. There are only four crews on this ocean worth calling proper pirates and sadly my own isn't one of them. Hopefully there's change on the horizon in that respect.

[He claps Ieyasu on the shoulder.]

Between the two of us, we should be able to find some more worthy men.
