Motochika Catchall Thread

[Your captain can be found pretty much all over the boat this month. He has green recruits to train, a turkey to take care of, orders to bark, and blueprints to draw up now that he can settle down a bit and start building whatever horrible things he can think of.

For crew who have been around for a while, you'll notice he's in higher spirits than you've ever seen him. For Ieyasu, you'll notice that he's pretty much back to his old self now.]

[He regrets the decision to get on this ship already.

The result is him being stuck in the middle of a damn ocean with a bunch of people he doesn't know and frankly, doesn't want to know. It's bad enough he's forced to share his living space with them for god knows how much longer, but what really gets on his nerves is the fact there isn't really a way to separate himself from the rest of the crew. No matter where he goes (it's not like there's that much to choose from anyway), somebody will always walk into him sooner or later. To someone who appreciates socializing about as much as one would welcome massive rainstorm on the day of their beach trip, this is truly a tragedy.

Overall, it sucks.

So anyone curious about this new addition to the crew will find Ragna the Bloodedge wandering around the ship and clearly being utterly disinterested in interacting with others.

Meet the new sailor

[Kodai is staring at the ocean. He's never been on a boat out in open ocean before. He's been to the shore as a child before the planet bombs started but that wasn't the same. This felt right, this is what they had set out from earth to gain the means to restore.

The crew can find him by the prow playing his harmonica.]

[Motochika, once he's checked to make sure the ship is on course and no one on board or off is actively trying to sink them, finds himself a nice spot on the railing and listens. He waits patiently for the song to finish before speaking up.]

That was lovely. I've missed having music on board. I can sing, certainly, but it's a matter of getting anyone else to join in.

[He pretty much had expected blank stares, since that was the response he got to most anything he suggested. Well, Sakamoto might have tried to sing along...]

[Nothing, not even the most potent of death glares can dampen Motochika's good mood. The deck of the Katabami looks populated for once, he has people to shout orders to that may actually listen, and life is good. He's been making an effort to try to bond with all his new crew, but this one hasn't seemed the bonding type from the start and ever since he got on board, Pi-chan has been giving him the stink eye. Motochika wasn't exactly sure why at first, but he's since managed to piece together what the parrot's issue is. Obviously, the problem needs to be solved by having his chat with Ragna with his trusty first mate in his customary position on his shoulder.]

Gold Catchall Thread

[By now, Gold has definitely had the chance to catch up on what, exactly, is going on in this unfamiliar world. He's flipped through the journal, complained loudly about not wanting to go on a stupid quest to do someone else's errands, and conquered the bit of seasickness that plagued him on his first day at sea. Now?]

[Now it was time for him to get acclimated to his new surroundings. He was never one to let something unexpected knock him off of his stride, after all. This trip was just another branch of adventure he had to conquer! And first thing's were first: AERIAL SURVEILLANCE]

[This is why Gold, a mere few days after joining Motochika's fine crew, can be found sailing through the air above the ship on the back of a strange flying creature (only the one he has looks a lot grouchier and angrier than the one pictured).]

The ocean really isn't made for flyin', huh, Togetaro?

[It's hard to gain much altitude with the air above the water so cool, after all]

[When it comes to emotional distress, Xun Yu's coping method has always been to throw herself into work; with her unintentional desertion fresh on her mind she has every intention of being productive. There's only one problem.]

Captain!

[Having spotted Motochika, Xun Yu wastes no time in making her way over. She stops before him and curls her right hand into a fist at chest level, which she then clasps with her left hand -- a salute, where she's from.]

May we speak?

[Finally, some proper respect! It warms his heart (and his ego) to be called "Captain" again after months of every ridiculous nickname imaginable.]

Let's hear it.

[The fact that she even bothered to ask first makes him more disposed to hear her out.]

Cross Catchall

[Now this, this wasn't what he had been expecting.

With all that had happened on that island, Cross still had wondered whether this was all a dream or not. Supposedly he was in a different world and now he and many others had to find shards to a ruby that granted wishes. It felt like something out of a storybook.

When they had cast off, all Cross could do was look over the edge of the ship, his chin resting on his arms, using the railing to support half his body. He just watches the water, his face set in contemplation.]

Man, can't believe this is all real.

[Oh god, here we go again. Is it really too much to ask these people not to stick their noses in his business for five goddamn minutes? It's good Motochika isn't fazed by angry glares, since he'll be finding himself on the receiving end of one. Somewhere deep inside, Ragna does realize he should be grateful this guy agreed to get him off the island, but hell if he's gonna thank him or anything.]

... My what now?

Your sea legs, man! Your ability to keep your feet under you no matter what this great ocean decides to throw our way!

[He may have a bit of a point about that. No matter how much the boat rocks, Motochika stands as firm as a man on solid ground. He's clearly no stranger to this sort of life.]

It's not something everyone takes to right away. I've seen men sick for a week before they manage to get their bearings.

[Finally having found some peace and quiet, Ragna is leaning against the side of the ship, staring into distance and... talking to himself, apparently. It's an old habit, and one he's never really thought about changing, considering how he spends most of the time alone back in his world.]

Do I have a "please come bother me" sign on my back or something? Tch, what I do is none of their business.

[He lets out a sigh, looking up to the sky. Dammit, this is just the beginning and it's already pissing him off. To think he'll have to deal with them for days, maybe even weeks... He hopes "months" are out of question.

Before he can bitch a bit more to himself about that, the Grim Reaper notices some figure in the sky. He squints a bit, trying to figure out whether it's a bird or something else... nope, he's got nothing.]

... What the eff is that?

Oh. That.

[Ragna eyes him up and down for a moment. You won't hear him say that, but it is pretty impressive.]

... I think I'm good.

[Save for those... six or seven times he almost fell flat on his face? Yeah. But that's not something Motochika needs to know.]

[Motochika is getting a blank stare but that's because Kodai has been caught playing. He's a little embarrassed but flattered that someone liked his playing]
I've never really played for others. I mostly just play when I need to clear my head.

It's a nice ship.

[As Ragna sizes him up, Motochika can feel Pi-chan start to puff up and before he give a proper answer, the parrot lets out a loud squawk and flaps his wings angrily. It takes Motochika's firm hand and sharp glare to keep him on place on his shoulder.]

Steady, Pi-chan. My apologies, Ragna, but I fear he'll be like this around you for a while until I get him sorted out. He's a good bird, but birds don't quite have the wits you or I do.

Why thank you! She may not be as big or as well-manned as I'm used to, but I'm still quite proud of her. I've half a mind to start working on some upgrades now that I have enough people to actually sail her.

[He stretches and turns to consider the deck of the ship and the somewhat organized chaos that has come to fill it over the past couple of days.]

You said you were a sailor of sorts yourself. How do we measure up?

[It's cold. Damnably cold. For someone who doesn't even bother to wear his jacket properly, let alone a shirt, having to break out his store of stolen salvaged clothing that he picked up during the raid of Isla Empieza and put on several layers of it seems almost out of character for Motochika.

He's been bearing it manfully all day, but after Pi-chan abandons him for shivering too much, he finally has to say something.]

Does anyone else feel like they're catching their death of cold?

[Ragna doesn't appear either surprised or bothered by the bird's reaction to him; he's actually used to pets (and people, for that matter) not liking him at this point. Heck, he even finds squawking a huge improvement over being insulted by Rachel's familiars all the time.]

... So, what's your mascot's problem?

[Xun Yu drops her salute, gratitude in her large eyes.]

I request permission to inventory the Katabami and monitor the consumption of its supplies.

[Yep, she's here to ask for more work.]

[Motochika raises an eyebrow. Well, this is a pleasant change as well. He almost feels bad letting her do it, because he knows what a nightmare it is down there. No one has ever bothered to sort through their share of treasure from Manahana'lia and Motochika had just dumped a towering pile of clothing and weapons and other assorted goods he'd managed to snatch up on Isla Empieza right on top of the mess. And that wasn't even taking into account all the left over materials from the construction job he'd done on the Million Merrily... At least they'd been doing a decent job of separating "food" from "not food" and storing it properly.]

Permission granted. That's quite the task you're setting yourself, but it's one that's badly in need of being done. If you find it's too much, grab one the boys and give 'em some work to keep them busy.

[And that reminds him of something.]

And before you get underway, make sure you have Zozo show you where she keeps her things, so you can keep well away from it.

You remind him of one of his least favorite people. He left the crew not so long before you signed on, so you can't blame the little fellow for being a bit confused. I'm sure as long as you treat him right and don't threaten to eat him, he'll warm up to you soon enough.

[He scratches under the parrot's chin, which seems to calm the bird down a little more.]

Whenever Sakamoto chooses to stop drinking himself into oblivion, he'll probably be confused for the same reasons. [The same reasons being "you look and sound like Gintoki and Sakamoto has the IQ of a parrot.]
