Don't know. Haven't been here long enough to really know how things are done here, so I figured I should probably see what I was in for.

Part of it is you trust your crew and most of all your captain without fail. When the shit hits the wall, they're going to be all you have.

[but to answer the first question]

You don't have to keep an eye on the crew but if you do see something worth concern...

It's not exactly the sort of work environment I'm used to, but I'm not gonna complain.

[Considering it was their "captain" the Organization could trust least of all.]

[He knows the maybe even if it's not implied since he's not inclined to a hundred percent trust anyone on this crew that wasn't in his own crew. How could they know what real loyalty is unless they've sailed? They can't-- but that was why Thatch was here]

What work environment are you used to?

Where do I even start? Ask Riku or Sora about the Organization and see what they say. Should be interesting.

[He taps the knife on the counter and thinks about what he's willing to say about the whole ordeal.]

Put together thirteen people without hearts and I think you can imagine how well they work together. I had people to look out for, so that's what I did. Orders didn't really matter.

Sometimes that's the best way of it.

[It's how some started out. Follow your friends and then find a leader you could believe in. Follow those orders for the greater good of everyone. That's not how he started out of course but he could see the position. Sort of.]

Heh. [It's pretty humorless, as far as laughs go.] Whatever you say.

[He'd watched out for Isa at first, then Roxas. No one else had mattered.]

I never made anyone sandwiches, I'll tell you that much.

[he wished he could trust the kid more but you worked with what you had. The kids from Riku's world were pretty strong but Thatch could still take them on so if worse came to worse...

He didn't even want to imagine it really.]

Well there's a first time for everything. Pretty soon you'll move up to meals.

That almost sounds like honest work. Not sure I ever had to do that before.

[Even before he'd lost his heart, he was always the one with the harebrained scheme to get out of schoolwork or chores. Now he has to be the one to keep the kids out of trouble. How had that even happened?]

I can't promise that I can make anything edible.

You'll learn. It's not difficult. Just takes concentration and effort. Maybe you'll even come to like it.

[he sounds teasing and he is but it's also hard work and he hopes the kid is somewhat serious about it. Being a pirate was freedom but you had to work damn hard for it every day.]

[Lea shrugs and keeps working. He sort of hates to admit it, but he is kind of interested. Maybe it's that childhood dream of immortality rearing its ugly head again, since everyone remembers a good meal, right? He just has to be good at it, is all, and that's going to take a while.]

Stranger things have happened, I guess. At least it's not boring.

[speak for yourself. Then again, he'd rather be out in the sun and sea air then trapped down here in the darkness. But if he can stir Lea's interest in it, he's definitely not going to speak against it]

Not at all. A cook can mean the difference of life or death for a crew. You have to now how to shop and preserve and save.

[it's about time to be slapping these sandwiches together so he'll set up a sort of production line for it]

But you do get perks. First taste of the food. Deciding what goes on the menu. Hoarding all the booze you want.

[well that probably wouldn't apply to Lea-- at least not yet but maybe eventually]

No thanks. Let's leave getting drunk and setting things on fire to the captain.

[Getting first dibs on the food and getting to pick the menu sound pretty good, though, but not so much the "life or death" part. That one's a little heavy.]

He wasn't too interested in my fire magic, either, come to think of it. Or anything I had to say, actually. Real team player.

He is the captain. [said with a shrug. Though he's keeping an eye on you, Lea] And being made of fire it'd take a hell of a lot to impress him.

[Lea answers with a shrug of his own.]

Just used to working for someone with better management skills. We were pretty specialized, each of us, and we got missions based on that. I mean, I get that he doesn't trust me, I wouldn't trust me, but you know...

Aye well that's what I'm for. That's why you're here as a matter of fact. But I'd much prefer to trust you after some time because if it turns out I can't trust you...

[he'll let that hang there.]

That goes both ways, Boss. Once bitten, twice shy and all that. Not that you don't all seem like fine, upstanding guys, but I've been burned before.

[Though he'd only recently found out just how much and he's more shaken about it than he'll ever let on.]

Understood and no hard feelings then, Lea. From now on, your life is mine, which means I protect it and your freedom to do as you wish. If you're in trouble the entire force of the Whitebe-- Spade Pirates will come to your aid and crush your enemies like a falling mountain.

[he doesn't expect Lea to believe him but the speech is important. It's what he says to all fourth division memebers when they first join and it's what he'll say to him now. Maybe he won't understand the significance, but Thatch does]
