Yes, I think so. Then when you beat them with the Keyblade, the heart gets released and it goes to Kingdom Hearts. That much I know.

That... is dreadful. [She's concentrating on keeping her hackles lowered and her wings furled, despite all desire to the contrary.] The more so if the victims cannot be restored.

We were collecting the hearts for Organization XIII, so we could have our own hearts, because Nobodies like me don't have hearts.

[One of Celestia's eyebrows slowly goes up.]

I find that very difficult to believe.

It's true. I'm not a person with a heart. My Somebody is Sora, if you've met him. He's on our ship somewhere. I might meet him really soon. I'm not sure what to think about that. I'm not supposed to exist. But Namine told me that Organization XIII is bad, so I guess I was doing bad things. Didn't feel like it though.

I seem to recall you saying you looked forward to meeting friends, and that you were happy I would be your friend. Those aren't the actions of somepony with no heart, you know.

I don't really know about that, all I know is that Nobodies don't have hearts, and that's why they're trying to get Kingdom Hearts. I'm a Nobody, so that means I too don't have a heart. Sora's the one with the heart.

[He sighs a little.]

Maybe I just want to have a little fun before I disappear.

That sentiment, too, is not one a heartless person would have. You may say you have no heart, but you prove otherwise very simply.

Axel says that Nobodies don't really have emotions. Maybe I remember my emotions from before I was me...but I don't remember anything else, so I can't say.

Every friendship you forge is a little bit different, because everypony you make friends with is different. So you can't 'remember' friendship and project it onto somepony else.

You can't? That's weird, isn't it?

[Roxas scratches his head.]

Axel's my best friend. Every day after work we met at the clock tower and had ice cream. Almost every day anyway. I remember that, does that matter?

Those sound like very important memories. Friendship is forged in the little things just as much as it is in the big ones, after all.

[heartismyown]

Yeah. Those are my memories. They are important to me, but...

[Roxas sighs a little.]

At least Lea remembers me. That's enough.

Was there some danger that he would not?

No, I don't think so. He has a good head. He remembers everything. I just don't know what's supposed to happen when I disappear. Xigbar told me once when a Nobody disappears, there's nothing left.

Memories are not so easily destroyed, and the effect a person can have on another is impossible to erase.

[heartismyown]

[Roxas frowns a bit.]

Maybe, I hope so. My memories are all scrambled, and I think I forget a lot of things.

You can forget something, but that isn't the same as losing the memory. It sleeps within you, waiting to be brought up once again.

[heartismyown]

I hope it is, I'd like to remember.

Well then. It's best to recover such memories on your own if you can, but if you ever get desperate or in need, I know a spell that can bring forth memories from the depths of the mind.

How do you recover a memory?

[letteropener]

Memories are funny things, tied to so much in your head and your heart even if they've faded or slipped away. Sometimes it simply takes following the threads, memory to memory, until you bring it up. Sometimes it surges back with incredible strength without warning.

Oh, I see. I guess that's why I can't remember then.

Most likely they will return in time, and even if they do not, you still carry then in the effect they have had upon you, and how they have affected your actions and reactions.
