[See this tent with it's nice little warm glow from the lanterns inside where the crew quarters are. Kasumi has bundled herself up with whatever spare canvas was around, just ignore the KEEP OUT sign on the door.]

[Psh, "KEEP OUT" signs are like big fat CHALLENGES to an assassin.

Also, uh, this is the CREW quarters, a communal room for everyone, gosh, Kasumi!!]

Is everything alright?

[Besides the fact that everyone is freezing their tails off, here. He is prompted by concern for the person under the sail cloth, but also by curiosity regarding the lanterns. Mostly he wants to know if they're giving off any heat at all. So far it seems like they are not.]

[The lanterns aren't helping much but at least having a smaller contained space with the tent has warmed up the air inside a little bit. Primarily the "Keep Out" sign was to make sure people didn't accidentally knock over any of the lanterns.]

[After a moment of shuffling she will poke her head out of the makeshift door.]

Other than the sub-zero temperatures? Great. How are you doing Thane?

Well since you asked so nicely you can come in. The sign was really just to see if anyone would ask to join me or just break down the tent.

[Besides, the more people you have in a tent the warmer it gets, even in super cold weather. That, and Thane doesn't smell like a pirate.]

[Yeah, he definitely doesn't smell like a pirate. He totally smells like whatever it is drell smell like, and who knows what that is. Maybe it's cinnamon. Let's go with cinnamon.]

[He hesitates at her invitation, just to make sure...]

[Since he's already joined her in the room...]

[If he smells like cinnamon he can stay as long as he likes.]

Considering you're already in the room and this is the only other structure in here. Yes, in the tent. Now hurry up, it's cold out here.

[And she'll just pop her head back into the tent at that.]

Is it really that much warmer in there?

[If it is then he is more than willing to forego his usual polite aloofness, because he hasn't been able to feel his fingers or toes for hours now, and that's definitely not healthy. So he ducks down to crawl inside with Kasumi, dragging his blanket along after...though he seats himself at as polite a distance from her as possible, given they're both huddling under a makeshift sail-tent.]

Enough that I notice a temperature change.

[It is slightly warmer in the tent than outside of it, but it wouldn't exactly be considered a tropical paradise. If nothing else it cuts out any drafts and whatever heat is cast off from the lanterns is trapped in the folds of the sail.]

Better than outside, if you ask me.

[Oh, yeah, it is pretty nice in here.]

I think you may be right.

Get a few more people in here and it could be nice and warm, although, then we'd run the risk of knocking the lanterns over and starting a fire.

[At least then it would be really warm.]

Considering we're currently sailing on a vessel crafted from wood, that would probably not be a good thing.

[Even though, yeah, it would be really warm. For a little while at least.]

Uncomfortable.

On the other hand, it does't appear to be affecting my condition as much as I expected it would.

[So there is that, at least. His lungs are still pretty soggy, but they're no worse for the fact he's been on a ship in the middle of an ocean for a couple weeks now.]

Really? I thought the humidity would be causing the opposite to be true. I'm glad it's not.

[She's glad that he's not suffering because of their position, and inability to change their circumstances.]

I would have thought so as well. I don't know why it hasn't really been an issue, but I'm also not going to complain.

What about yourself? How are you acclimating to life here?

Not as well as I'd like. But I can't complain, it's the lack of technology that's starting to be the greatest irritation.

I would be surprised if that's not what everyone else's biggest annoyance with this place is.

It makes doing my job that much harder, but, I'm also starting to miss basic hygiene. Showers aren't easy to have on a ship that's powered sixteenth century technology.

And a salt ocean isn't exactly ideal for bathing, either.

See, I told you it would work. It's warmer the more bodies you have in here, but too many and we might kick a lantern over.
