"Actually it's a dis-enchanting. It's to keep magic from entering but - YES! That's my specialty where I'm from." At least one of his specialties, Crocker takes the offered hand, "Denzel Crocker, Ms. Cousland." Denzel wasn't sure if she was married or not."

She is apologizing for having had startled him, that's a first!

"What weapon do you suggest?"

Denzel scratches the side of his head, how to explain lasers? "They're a focal point of concentrated light." Which doesn't sound horrible but that is besides the point since the lasers Crocker is speaking of could cut you in half.

Elissa takes a mental measure of the man. After seeing him with the butcher knife, she's rather reluctant to suggest any sort of blade.

"How does one wield a laser?" is her inquisitive question. "Perhaps we can begin from there, if that is your weapon of preference. I have not heard of this thing, but we may have something that is similarly wielded?"

"That's just a plain silly question, with a nozzle and trigger." At least a silly question to Crocker. However, in other words the design is somewhat gun-like.

His eye-widen, of course he hadn't thought of the most commen sense thing and he smacks his hand against his face in distaught with a few ha-ah like be most be absent-minded.

"A.. trigger? There are some guns aboard the Mistress, if you think you could handle one. I have had a few lessons with a repeating rifle, but I will be the first to admit that I need more practice before I am proficient with one. Blades are my thing," Elissa confessed as she pointed to the longsword and short sword in the harness upon her back with a gloved thumb. "And I can also use a bow."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-19 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm. I'm not exactly sure. I've been reading books from other worlds. [Though Crocker is still attempting to find a book about his world, that has to be out there somewhere!]

Repeating rifle? Crocker had to think for a moment before his mind falling on history books, oh right! Repeating rifle! "Oh! Like in the Old America West! Is there one around here?" After all, he's not one to wander much as he does tend to keep to himself.

Crocker laughs nervously and pulls the front of his shirt collar with a finger, as he's reminded she is not one to mess with.

"I suppose I could try."

There's a brief pause, "Any reason why you prefer blades?"

In amusement, Elissa replied, "That is much the same phrase that Captain Harlock used to describe the atmosphere are Gun Frontier, so... yes. I suppose the 'Old West' is a good analogy for those who are familiar with it. I have one in my cabin, if you think you could make use of it. Quite a remarkable weapon, really. It makes me lament the fact that I had nothing of the sort at my disposal while fighting the Darkspawn."

As if to clarify, she added, "We do not have guns in my homeland. Crossbows are the closest thing."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-20 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh?" Crocker's eyes narrow in thought behind his glasses, interesting, "It sounds as if Captain Harlock is also from an Earth." Rather an Earth that may be similar in history anyways.

Denzel laughs nervously for a moment, it is better than being completely defenseless and the man has a decent shot of being able to use a repeating rifle, "I would actually. Why don't you show me to your cabin?"

There is something kind of creepy about the why don't you sentence.

"Ah. That would make perfect sense!"

Right. 'Creeeepy' as Alistair would say. Elissa quickly did a mental review of her cabin in an effort to remember if there was anything incriminating in plain sight when she last left it.

"Very well," she decided, pivoting to face the stairs the led below decks. "Just keep in mind that the weapon is mine and that I would like it back in much the same state as when I hand it to you."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-20 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
At least Elissa, Crocker has no interest in you. If you know what I mean in that way. He's perfectly taken by someone who doesn't love him back, in his home world.

Crocker follows obediently, "Yes mother!" Crocker squawks out rather nervous without thinking, I mean... Yes, Ms. Cousland."

Then lets out a few nervous laughs.

"If you insist upon using titles, you could call me 'Lady Cousland' or even 'Warden' as I am a Grey Warden," she laughed in response to the strange fellow. "But Elissa would be fine as well."

Pausing before her door, Elissa opened it and ducked her head inside to take a look around. Great. Poet-like shirt with frilly cuffs on the chair is obviously too big to belong to her, but Crocker probably won't notice. The bed is a mess and there is a red hair ribbon tangled up below the edge of the pillow. "Ah... just wait here," she decided after a moment. Better to be safe than sorry where attempts at discretion were concerned.

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-20 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lady Cousland it is... What is with everyone wanting to be on 'first name bases'?" Crocker wonders out-loud to himself.

Pausing at the outside side of the door, Crocker's gaze looks up at the sky,

"Mmmm? Oh! I wasn't expecting to follow you in."

That would be awkward and lacking of manners, however if there had been a fairy in there. That's a different story.

Elissa took down the repeating rifle and its bag of ammunition from its place upon the wall, idly checking it over for a moment with a light frown. She finally steps back out of her small cabin and shuts the door behind her. "Are you familiar with such a weapon?" she asks the nervous man while retaining ownership of the gun and bag. "If not, I can show you how to load and work it once we are up top again."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-20 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Denzel leans over more and peers behind his glasses, which give off a slight gleam for a moment, "It looks similar in ways..." However in other ways not, "What's the bag for?"

She should take that as he doesn't know how to load it. Oh, worlds that lack guns and beer.

"Bullets, I believe they are called," she explained while sidling past him in the narrow corridor to move toward the sunlight filtering down the stairs. "I will show you how to put them into the rifle and then how to fire it. Perhaps you'll be better at it than I am."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-22 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"EXCELLENT!.. Lead on."

Crocker exclaims and seems to jerk his body in a strange manner, this is all better than being a sitting duck after all. At least Crocker thinks so he doesn't know how horrible war can be besides if the Navy does find his hiding spot on the ship, he has been warned he'll just be killed anyways. Which doesn't sound very appealing and gulps hard at the thought, the man continues to follow her around the ship, "Perhaps."

He's not going to toot his own horn he's not sure how similar bullets are to lasers. There does seem to be a trigger, nozzle and an aiming mechanism on-top the rifle. All of those he is familiar with, and does feel confident that he can pull this off.Which confidence from him tends to be a rare thing.

"And I give you my word that I'll return this rifle just as it is, yes."

[personal profile] elissacousland 2014-03-25 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
At his word, Elissa seems mollified and less worried about lending her precious new weapon to a stranger. She emerges into the sunlight and makes her way to the main mast where she hooks the bag upon a belaying pin.

"Never, ever point this end at anyone or anything you would not want to die," she cautions as she indicates the end of the barrel. "This is where the bullet emerges. I have experienced the pain of being hit by a musket ball and I imagine this would be far worse since I am told it is much more powerful."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-03-31 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Crocker follows at somewhat of a distance behind her back to the main mast, "Yes, yes. That's the same functionally of a laser." However as she continues on, catches Crocker's curiosity, "How in blazes did you get injured?" Considering she's armored Denzel can't figure out how she did get injured, "How is this more powerful than a musket ball, mmm?"

The man's glasses seem to gleam for a moment as there's this look of power lust in his eyes.

Elissa cannot help but to laugh at Crocker's question as she was very nearly that surprised during the incident when it happened. "It struck me here," she explains, indicating a spot upon her studded dragon hide armor just above the dragon bone plate piece she wears over her chest. Though she is pointing to the front of her left shoulder, there is no patch or hole in what she is currently wearing.

"The projectile actually pierced the dragon hide and me as well. I cannot imagine how much damage it might have done had the leather not slowed it down. As it was, the wound was very painful, bled profusely, and had to be healed by a mage once the ball was removed."

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-04-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Crocker cringes at the laughing before switching in surprise, "Dragon hide?!"

Crud! She is tough! That is before pulling his lips in a very cringe-worthy way, which shows his horrible teeth, at the description of the wound.

He's also starting to become interested in her world, "So, where you come from humans and magic co-exist openly?"

That is unless she's not a human?

"You see with a laser the damaging light also comes out of the same hole but there's no need to load it... How do you load this?"

"Dragon hide," Elissa agrees, trying not to grin as she is actually enjoying the chance to brag to a stranger. She taps the studded blue leather with a fingertip. "This is dragon hide." Next, she taps the armored piece over her chest. "This is dragon bone - and I killed the dragon from which it is crafted with the help of three companions. Magic is part of my world, yes, but not everyone has the ability to use it - and the Chantry attempts to restrict its use."

While she speaks the last, the woman turns the repeating rifle on to its side to point out the loading gate above and forward of the trigger. Elissa pauses to dig some ammo from the bag. "The rifle holds nine rounds. You press the front of the bullet down here," she explains, pushing the nose of the bullet against the loading gate until it tilts inward. "And then press it forward." This is illustrated when she presses on the end of the cartridge with her thumb and pushes until it disappears into the magazine.

Hesitating, she stops to turn the little tab at the rear of the lever to make sure it cannot be used just yet. "Here. You try it," she says before holding it out toward Crocker.

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2014-04-15 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well yes but did you do that or-" Denzel suddenly appears more fearful then before and his nerves are confirmed when she states she did slay the beast.

"Does that make those areas invulnerable to most magics?"

That is before turning his attention back to the repeating rifle and watches Elissa load the repeating rifle and stares in some strange fascination at the bullets. Before accepting the offered rifle into his arms and makes a sound, and falls back in his steps a little. The man wasn't expecting it to weight as much as it did but quickly manages to pull himself back together and takes a bullet in-between his fingers and presses the bullet into the loading gate, which Crocker catches the end of this fingers on, "OW!" Which Crocker also grinds his teeth for a moment and he is quick to retract his fingers, as soon as he says, ow.

After a moment or two, Crocker wobbles the rifle in his arms as he adjusts for the feel and pulls the rifle close to his eye to aim though the rifle aim and pulls the trigger, ".... What the-? WHY ISN'T ANYTHING HAPPENING?!"
