March Mingle

Who: The Sinewave and Triton's Mistress (Sinewave's Mistress? Triton's Sinewave?...)
Where: Gun Frontier, the ocean (headed south).
When: From 3/7 to 3/13-ish, possibly longer.
What: All-purpose mingle for the Mistress/Sinewave alliance at the start of March! Records the formal meeting of their crews and subsequent journey to the southern oceans, in pursuit of one of the Eight Captains (who they find in another log, stay tuned for that).
Warnings: Probably language and mild amounts of crazy, will update if needed.
Style: Whatever strikes your fancy!
Status: Open to crews of the Sinewave, Mistress, and any recruits they happen to get between 3/9 and 3/13.

It's a mingle! Please specify where you are (Gun Frontier, either of the ships involved on the open ocean) and when it happens in the header. Feel free to make subthreads for parties or other large gatherings if you'd like.

Elissa turns to put the crate down, careful not to set it down upon Rusty in the process. "The first Mistress was a caravel before we upgraded to a brig sloop. I began as the cook - not something I would recommend anyone ever hire me to do again - and I am now a rigger," the young woman explains while watching Codi with the raptor in bemusement. "Just, ah, how many extra crewmen do you require? The Mistress can only spare so many people."

"Oh, we don't need much," Codi shrugs, pacing the main deck while she idly babies the raptor she's holding. "We're a crew of...three, currently. Three with opposable thumbs." Mittens gets an apologetic nuzzle. "That's one to steer, two to work the pedals--but the guys don't exactly know how to drive. Er. So to speak."

Work the pedals. Petals? Elissa has no idea what that phrase might mean, so she simply ignores it with a little frown - a frown that is due to the rest of what she gleans from Codi's words. What does driving animals have to do with sailing?

"Would the addition of two crew members be enough? I am willing to come aboard as is Haytham Kenway. We both have knowledge of the sails and the lines," she cautiously said, hoping the pair of them would be enough. Escaping out from under Connor's nose for a while would be a relief.

Codi, completely oblivious to her anachronisms, mirrors Elissa's frown in an exaggerated, almost cartoonish manner. Why so grumpy? There's no need for that!

"I think two should be plenty!" she coos--at Mittens, of course, who seems very curious about Codi's strange expressions and starts sniffing and bumping her chin. "It would be nice, getting to know the rest of the committee personally...Why didn't he come with you? Busy?"

The strange bird-lizard is studied with uncertain curiosity as it seems to almost nuzzle at Codi. Elissa is not at all sure she would want to hold one of the things. It's definitely not a Mabari pup.

At the Captain's question, Elissa's sudden grin is full of mischief. "He does not yet know that he is volunteering for this duty," the woman confesses. "However, I am sure he will be amenable once I present the idea to him. After all, ah, you are both on the committee, yes?" Because that's the only reason he'd need for following Elissa, obviously.

"Ah," Codi grins back, toothy and wide and equally mischevious. "The best kind of volunteer is the unsuspecting one. I can go along with this."

She pauses to put down Mittens, who is starting to squirm because she wants to investigate the strong-smelling bourbon case with her sister (who's been sunbathing on top of it for most of the discussion).

"I'm sure we can sway him if he protests," she concludes with a chuckle.

"As I recall, our caravel had rather nice cabins - at least enough for the majority of the crew even if the ceilings were rather low. No one had need to make use of the hammocks in the larger crew quarters," Elissa states, looking curious. "Is this ship the same in that regard? While I do have experience in sharing quarters with others..." A memory of camp life during the Blight makes her smirk. "I would prefer privacy, if I am to come aboard to assist."

Codi looks her over carefully. Making demands already...she supposes Elissa is in the right position for that sort of thing, but it's an interesting request. It's not like they have any shortage of sleeping quarters, with the crew as sparse as it is...how interesting.

"Yeah," the Captain finally resolves with a grin, "we can arrange that! One for each of you, while you're here--as long as you don't hide away the entire time. Wednesday poker night is not optional, even for guests."

It had really been Elissa's original intent to ask for a cabin large enough for the both of them - but she wasn't at all sure that those on the Mistress wouldn't find out about the arrangement before they packed to go to the Sinewave. The entire idea behind volunteering this temporary aid was to indulge in more private time with Haytham without their crew learning of their new relationship just yet. Still, a cabin had a door and a door could be locked...

"Poker night?" she voiced aloud with a chuckle. "I daresay that means something far different to you than duels with fireplace implements?"

Given Codi's persistent insomnia, she'll figure out what Elissa and Haytham's real motivations are within the first couple of nights. But for the moment, that remains under her radar. The humor helps.

"That depends on your personal tastes," the ginger chuckles back, "and Crocker's mood when he loses a round."

"I suppose that I shall simply have to discover the meaning of 'poker night' when I come aboard, then," Elissa says with a smile. "If you will have us, I will inform Captain Harlock and Master Kenway of the arrangement. We can come aboard before you are ready to make way."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Codi grins. "Welcome aboard, then! Feel free to look around, test the sails--just no joy-riding while I'm not around. I don't want to come back to the docks and figure out that the ship is halfway to Monsuta."
