[After she lost her brother.
The treasure she'd brought back had been enough to give her some importance, make the viscount listen to their case.]
Kind of wish I hadn't.
Then the viscount wouldn't have known who I was.

[So that's not different, then. Up to and including the Deep Roads expedition...which he still hasn't quite got over, even though he had just received word that the Grey Wardens had managed to save Carver's life.]
Apparently some qunari have kidnapped the Viscount's son; he just finished asking me to look for him before I wound up here, instead.
[pause]
I suppose he asked you to help him, too.

[That poor kid.
That poor, poor kid. He's one of the many faces that haunts her dreams at night. One of the various voices that asks "Why weren't you able?" There's too much blood on her hand. Too much innocent blood.]
no subject
I never got the chance. That is, I wound up in front of that infuriating fountain before I could even go looking.
no subject
[It's all she can say. It's the only thing that matters: making sure someone else might be in time to save him.]
Don't go to the Arishok. Go to the Chantry.
no subject
[Welp.
Also, uh. She sure does have a few bags and things. Maybe he should stop being a progress-impeding asshole and offer to show her to the crew quarters.]
Do you want to set those down somewhere? I can show you the crew quarters, or the galley, whichever is more appropriate.
no subject
[At least the Qunari are honest.]
I've got... supplies. Bones for the mabari, bandages for Anders...
no subject
[UFUFUFUFU.]
...You brought bones for the dogs?
[You're his new favorite person.]
no subject
Of course I brought bones.
[She's a Ferelden at heart. And that means she loves dogs. Especially extremely intelligent dogs like the mabari.]
no subject
[Although now that she mentions it...]
You don't have a dog?
no subject
[She has to stop and stare for a moment.]
...Do you?
no subject
His name's Champion.
[...oh wait. Haha. Uh.]
Father brought him home as a puppy about a year before he...well.
[Uh. You know.]
[LUCKILY before this can get any more awkward, CHAMPION THE MABARI ARRIVES TO SAVE THE DAY! He walks right up to Marian and jabs his nose right into her sternum, where he commences sniffing busily. What a charmer, huh?]
Champ, where are your manners?
no subject
[She and Garrett have never met, no. But she's a Hawke. And so is he. And obviously the mabari knows it. Or so she'll tell herself.
She smiles, scratching behind one of the mabari's ears.
The words are out before she can stop herself:]
I bet Carver loved him.
no subject
[Also she would not allow the dog half the liberties he's taking with Marian.]
Bethany loved him, too.
[oh no, sibling feelings...subject change, subject change!!]
Anders hates him. Or at least he pretends he does.
[That's better. >.>]
no subject
Too many feelings about family. Far, far too many.
But. Topic change! Good, good.]
Well, Anders is a cat person.
Isabela mentioned a cat, so I brought some string for it.
no subject
[Yes, let's talk about Anders and his kitten, that is a much better topic.]
It uses the dogs as a bed.
no subject
[She grins a little.]
Totally fearless against all logic.
no subject
[He's grinning a bit, too.]
no subject
[So she says now. If she only knew...]
no subject
[If only they both knew...]
[Champion, meanwhile, has since ceased his olfactory inspection of Marian and sat his doggie butt down on her foot; a clear sign of acceptance and doggie favor.]
no subject
I wonder if we could get Anders to play with string...
no subject
[But it is a cute mental image, with or without the kitten. Hm!]
But, I suppose you never know until you try.
[And now that she's suggested it, he's totally going to try.]
no subject
[Which makes her smile just thinking about her.
Much better than thinking about family and all of that.]
no subject
[Yes, let's not talk about family, let's just talk about Anders and how cute Anders is.]
