Who: Hazardous Materials
Where: Isla Empieza first, then sailing to Aeolipile Isle!
When: 4/1 - 4/28
What: Picking up new crew members and recovering from the Navy battle! Plus shenanigans.
Warnings: DRAGON!!! But no, nothing really. Probably.
Style: Any!
Status: Open if you're on Isla Empieza and want to hang out!

This is our April log of awesomeness! Date your threads accordingly and probably include a location. This is the plan for now:

4/1-4/10: Hanging around IE, grabbing Cynthia, STUFF.
4/11-4/15: Sailing to Aeolipile!
4/16-4/28: Aeolipile craziness.

Pft, of course I know how to hold one!

[Hiccup holds it...one way. Oh, nope, he switches hands. And fixes the angle.

See? He can do it.]

[Trying not to wince over here.]

....now I'm really glad I didn't sharpen that thing first. You'd probably hack off your own leg.

[He steps over to make a few adjustments to that grip there. You're left-handed, right? Okay then, maybe a little this way...]

–It wasn't that bad!

[But now being posed like a ball-joint doll into the right form. Yes, left-handed, that's how it works. It feels more comfortable.]

[Gaius steps back.]

Okay, that looks better. But how's it feel to you? That's the important part. If you feel pretty good where you are, then let's see a couple of practice swings.

[The Viking tilts his head, scrunching his nose as he fixes some of the rigidness in his form. A weak swing, another shift in foot placement.]

That feels a little better.

[Another shift. Shoulders tighten and slump slightly, but the next swing looks more natural.]

There you go. Try to relax a little more. If it might be easier for you, you can use both hands and work up to just using one. Slicing at air's one thing, but if you're fending off someone else's weapon, you need a good grip.

[He brought up the iron blade he held, nodding for Hiccup to give a swing, which he'd block.]

Okay. Okay, relaxing. [He bounces in place, readjusting the grip he has on the sword.] Here we go.

[A pause. With all of his Hiccup might, he swings, bronze sword bouncing off of the iron one like rubber. He gets to feel the impact running through his arms.

Of course, Gaius may not have felt very much on his end. Excuse the boy as he recoils and makes a face.]

If you go falling back that far by hitting a stationary weapon, I'd hate to see where you end up if you hit a moving one.

[Finally getting his jaw to rework itself.]

Iiit'd probably hurt just as much. Maybe even worse. But I can do this! I think!

Yeah, that's the spirit!

[He smiles lopsidedly as he raises the blade again.]

Try this again, then?

Yeah!

[He is so pumped and ready. And he has feeling back in his hands, so that's good.

The Viking boy draws in a sharp breath, putting all he has into the second swing. There's a CLANG. That counts for something, right? At least he doesn't fly away as much.]

[Nice going, kid. He actually feels that one.]

Hey, you almost moved my arm that time!

What– really???

....yeah. Now see if you can keep from rebounding like that, otherwise you'll just give your opponent an opening.

Okay. Got it.

[After nodding, he resets, keeping the advice in mind. Again he swings, doing this twice.]

...This looked a lot better in my head.

[Gaius shifts the blade just slightly to catch each strike of Hiccup's sword.]

Might not always work the way you plan, and once people are trying to swing back at you, it'll get a lot trickier.

That's something to look forward to.

[Not like he's wanting to, but what can he do? Learn and go. The sword slashes again.]

I know these aren't strong hits. It's stuff like this that constantly reminds me that I need a little more muscle.

I'm not expecting you to be an expert at this, it's just something to fall back on in case you get yourself caught in a corner, you know?

....although a little more muscle in general wouldn't hurt your cause, Twigs.

I know. I'll figure something out.

[But he does make a slight face at the agreement.]

Hey, relax. I'm not expecting you to become a swordmaster on day one. You should be thankful that I'm not a slavedriver for training like Sully is. Actually I'm not used to training anyone, period.
