[After being rescued, Gan Ning hadn't moped for too long - just long enough to mull over Raphael's offer. He owed these guys for not leaving him in that prison, they did good getting him out. He knew they had potential. But they really did need someone with experience to mold them into a real pirate crew.

So in the end, the answer was yes. And Xingba gathered folks on deck to hear the announcement]

All right! Listen up! Starting today, I'm gonna be captain of this crew! I don't care what you call it, if you wanna call it the same thing or change the name, doesn't bother me. But now you're servin' under Gan Xingba of the Bells!

I ain't a slave-driver, but I'm gonna whip you guys into shape. You can all fight, I'll give ya that. But this is the way of it - if I give you an order, you follow it. If I give you tasks to do, like cleaning the hold or mending the ropes or fishin' for dinner, you do it. And for the record, I don't shy away from fights. We got our asses whupped last time, but I ain't gonna let that happen again. If we get hit, we're gonna hit back. Anybody who don't like that can find another crew. Got me?

Now. What do you guys want out of your journey? Are we just gonna make life hell for the locals, or are we gonna start lookin' for the jewel that's gonna send us all home? I wanna hear from you - that's how a crew works. I might be the captain, but everybody gets a say.

[More or less just standing there with his arms crossed and a huge, approving grin on his face. Heck yeah, totally made the right decision here! Taking charge, not running from fights, Gan Ning knows what he's doing! Raph stamp of approval all over this guy.

But at that last bit, he can't help the laugh that bursts out of him.]

Oh man, you wanna make life hell [SLIPS IN A GROWNUP WORD OMG] for anyone and you're gonna have this guy making faces at you forever.

[Points across at Leo.]

Yeah? [he grins back. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Raph] That's what pirates do, yanno? Unless you guys are all gonna be up in my face about raiding, then we'll have to have a talk.

[Spreads his hands a little and shrugs.]

We're gonna have to, aren't we? I don't know how else to get money around here. Unless we go treasure hunting.

[His eyes light up suddenly.]

Dude, can we go treasure hunting? Pirates do that, right?

Well...yeah. I mean, it's not something I'm used to, but I've heard the rumors. There's treasure to be had around here. I'm willing to give it a shot. Pirates gotta eat, yanno?

[With a speech like that and the fact that this same guy was hitting on her just a few days ago...dear Arceus, what has she gotten herself into?

She'll just stand at the very back, with her dragon, for the duration of the speech. Being the new person and the only girl here. She didn't really feel the need to say anything anyway.]

[when he can extract himself from conversations, he's making a beeline for that dragon. He wants to see]

Of what? The speech? It was cute, I guess. Looks like I was brought here just in time for you promotion.

[Behind her, the dragons was just staring, and maybe reaching over to poke at his bells.]

[completely fascinated by the dragon. Poke away!]

Yeah, who'da thought? Sure, I'd been thinkin' about it, but it wasn't until after we got here and got settled in that I decided to go for it.

[...well Leo didn't see that coming, so there was a mixed reaction. On the one hand, if Raph decided to step down, he was beyond relieved. But on the other hand that small part of him that still saw himself as leader was screaming right now.

But ah well, he could live with it... after a while... but he still had questions.]

Umm... so how did this come about exactly?

Raph came to talk to me, after you guys picked me back up. We were chattin' about leadership and stuff, and he offered me the position. So if you got a problem, take it up with Raph. I didn't ask for it, he was the one who asked me.

Oh he did, did he?

[He throws Raph a look. Not quite a glare, but a look.]

Well in that case, fine with me. [And serious face time.] But there is one little thing that I need to make clear.

Yeah?

[faces up to him, hooking his thumbs in his belt cord. BRING IT]

So does that make us officially pirates?

[He smiles lopsidedly. Since it seems like Raphael's aware of this change, then he figures something's been worked out.]

No complaints from me, Jingles.

Not saying that we shouldn't keep an eye out for those jewel pieces, but given how easy those have been to find, we have lots of time to fill in between. I know Jumpstart was all about hunting down Davy Jones, but his whereabouts are just as elusive.

[griiiins] Officially enough.

One thing at a time, though. I'd like a piece of the guy who brought us here myself, but after fightin' Orochi like I did, I know a little something about racin' off to attack the Big Guy right off the bat. It's gonna take allies, strategies, things like that. One little crew ain't gonna do it alone.

Yeah, I hear you. Much as it seems a more obvious path of choice, if a guy like that can pull us here just like that, I doubt he'll be an easy one to take down.

Yeah, that kind usually are. And there's no knowin' what'll happen to us or this world if we just haul off and destroy him. Don't wanna get stuck here or nothin'.

[Well, that's definitely a range of reactions to the announcement. Green eyes glance at each crew member, brow rising slightly once they fall back upon the newly appointed captain of the ship.

At a loss of how to react, Hiccup just claps. Pathetically.]

Captain huh...? Well that's not something I expected to hear. [he's still going to follow Leo, even if he prefers Gan Nang to Raph as a captain because, hey, experienced sea farer versus inner city turtle!]

All I care about is keeping us out of as much trouble as possible at least until I can reinforce the hull and get some advanced weapon systems online so we're not stuck with cannons and gunpowder.

What's wrong with cannons and gunpowder? [besides the fact he doesn't actually know how to use them. He's a general, not a gunner!]

Repairs, though, that's a priority. Yeah, I'm with ya.

Besides the fact that they're outdated, unreliable and uh...none of us really know how to use one? I mean I could figure it out, no problem, but it would be a much more effective use of my time if I created a better weapons system that didn't require so much potential damage to the plastron when the thing kicks back.

Outdated?! [shocked!] That's top-notch technology there, that is! It's from the future! I heard Date used 'em against Cao Cao and just completely blew his mind - before blowing him up, of course. How could something that useful be outdated?
