Oh, um nothing!

[He tilts his head a little bit.]

Just looking at your sword.

[It's all he remembers about Gan Ning.]

Yeah?

[he pulls it and flips the blade so that the flat of it is resting across his other arm, so Roxas can get a load it in full, particularly the dragon inlaid in the blade]

Take a good look, I don't mind. I hear you fight with somethin' pretty similar.

Yeah, keyblades. I have two of them. They don't really look like swords though, they're kind of different.

[He looks it over. It's really nice.]

I like the dragon.

Heh! Dragons are pretty cool, eh? They're supposed to be gods of the rivers, and this here is River Master, so I thought it would go nice together.

I'd like to see you in action with these 'keyblades' sometime. We haven't had much to battle in a while, but you never know when trouble might pop up.

I don't really know anything about dragons...

[He tilts his head a little.]

You want to spar?

[youhearthebells]

[shrugs]

Sure, if you're up for it. What can I say, I'm curious. Would you like that?

Yeah, I like sparring.

[He smiles a little. He's used to fighting anyway. He takes a step back or two and holds out his hands summoning Oblivion and Oathkeeper into them, the same kind of trick Lea used.]

[whoa, Lea wasn't kidding. Look at those. Gan Ning takes a moment to stare and then whirls River Master into attack position, holding it one-handed]

Those are pretty impressive! Now let's see what you can do with 'em!

Sure, okay.

[Roxas opens this time with both of them above his head, jumping a bit so he can bring them down on Gan Ning.]

[he swings to block, maybe underestimating the kid a little from his size. Two blades at once packs more of a hit than he thought! Pushing off with a wide swing, Xingba charges in to try and catch him as he lands, his sword making a low sweep toward where Roxas' feet would be]

[There isn't much he can do when he's landing, so he'll take a blow, but it doesn't phase him in the least, he's already swinging one keyblade at him, stepping back and pivoting so the second would follow.

He'll probably learn quickly that Roxas is not to be underestimated.]

[at least, he isn't aiming to harm, not when they're just sparring. Gan Ning has to pull back right away in order to block the sequence of hits, grunting a bit at the force behind them.]

Looks like I'd better step it up, here.

[kid's fast, too. Damn. He keeps his strikes short and simple, planting his feet and throwing a series of hacks at Roxas.]

[Roxas manages to block a couple, but he has no patience for playing defense. He steps closer to close the gap between them, swinging up Oblivion from below. If Gan Ning lands a strike or two on him, that doesn't matter as much. He's the type of fighter that would rather get things done then defend himself. He's fast, so it often works for him.]

[whoa! That swing comes in real fast, forcing Gan Ning to bend backwards to avoid getting cut straight up the middle. He staggers back a few steps and pauses to regroup.]

Okay, okay! You're pretty tough, kid. I like it.

[but he's not through yet, and comes back in hard, kicking and throwing punches as well as swinging his sword in wider arcs]

[He gives him a little grin with a half shrug.]

I've had practice.

[He's impressed when he comes back at him hard and when he starts trying to kick him, Roxas shuffles his feet and twists around behind Gan Ning. He's having to pull out all his tricks.]

[oho, evasion, is it? Ning whirls quickly to prevent himself from being attacked from behind, raising River Master almost vertically to protect his side as he repositions. And then he laughs a bit, under his breath. He's having a great time!]

[Not necessarily evasion, but he'd rather take an advantage if he can. Gan Ning is a hard opponent. Roxas is breathing a little harder. He's not surprised that he moved fast enough not to let him keep the advantage. It's what he would have done. He swings his blades one after the other, Oblivion coming from below, Oathkeeper from the side.]

[Gan Ning braces his free hand behind the flat blade of River Master to hold off those strikes, though Oathkeeper comes dangerously close to his arm before he rolls out and shuffles to the side. He doesn't feel threatened enough to need to use his musou move, this combat is plenty fun without bringing special moves into it.

He swings his sword back and forth, parrying off both keyblades, while he looks for an opening. He is bigger and heavier, so if he can get in close, there might be a takedown. But those keyblades are clearly not going to just let him do it.]

[Being small, Roxas has faced many opponents who are bigger and sometimes stronger than him. The range he has with the keyblades helps him a great deal. Aya has also been instructing him on dual wielding so he didn't tangle himself nearly as much as he used to.

However, it becomes apparent soon enough that openings are there, because he does little to guard himself.]

[Xingba is beyond impressed. He's going to enjoy having Roxas and Lea in this crew, if this is any indication. He finally gets a good read on the rhythm of their strikes and blocks and finds the opening he needs, twisting his upper body and lunging in to grab Roxas by the front of the shirt with his free hand. It gets him in close enough to raise River Master to block on his right side, but he's in danger of getting a keyblade upside the head from the left. Doesn't matter. He's in close, and can yank Roxas right up to him]

Gotta stay on your guard, kid!

[the choice is there - hit him, or yield?]

[The rhythm is fast paced enough that Roxas is also enjoying the spar, but when he makes his move, he finds himself yanked up by his shirt. He doesn't have the footing he needs to break free. His eyes are searching.

When Gan Ning speaks, Roxas smirks.]

I think you should take your own advice.

[Roxas does not yield unless he's forced to. What he does do is turn his wrist before bringing up the butt of Oathkeeper towards his head instead of a blade.]

[Well, he did not expect that. Gan Ning flinches just enough that the end of the keyblade scores across his headband, saving him from getting really cracked in the head.

He lets go of Roxas and takes a step back, and then bursts out laughing]

Damn! I didn't even see that comin'! Good work, kiddo. Real good work.

[He's breathing hard now because that was a damn good work out, actually. He grins at him though, accepting the praise.]

Thanks! I'm pretty good you know.

[He hasn't put the keyblades away, but he doesn't look like he's going to attack or anything.]

Damn right you are.

[he's had enough of a workout, for now, so he slips River Master into the scabbard behind him]

Gotta watch your flank, though. A little practice'll help, so if you wanna have at it, anytime, just let me know.

Yeah, okay! I like practicing. I used to go on missions every day so I don't really fight much around here compared to before so it's a little weird. [He vanishes his keyblades again.]
