Hooks're death. Hate them damn things.
[He takes a big breath after the first ring, steeling himself for the next.]
Okay, go.
no subject
[He then starts in on the second one, working to remove it just like the other one.]
no subject
Deserves this.
No.
Not anymore.
This isn't a question of deserved or not, this is just cause and effect. Shit hurt going in, it's gonna hurt coming out. Nature. It's how shit works.
He'll be fine.
Just give him a second to catch his breath.]
Damn.
[He doesn't even know what to do about the bracer. That thing's flush and thick and not going to cut easily. But he'll deal with that later. There's one more ring, right at the base of his fin. Namur wipes his face on his sleeve, then nods that he's ready.]
Let's get this shit done.
no subject
[Without warning, he goes to take out the last ring, having gotten the trick to it down with the previous two. He makes it as quick as possible.]
Now the bracer.
no subject
Y- yeah. Thanks, man. I don't- They...
[It's not often that Namur feels sick to his stomach, but damn if it isn't churning right now. Gotta loosen up. Relax. Let things settle down. Breathe.]
How y' gonna do it?
[He can totally taste his own distress in the air, like a chemical beacon shouting "I'M INJURED COME EAT ME!" He'll have to shunt those somehow before he goes back into the sea. Maybe he'll find someone to curl up with while he gets his awesome back. Yeah, that's a good plan.
But first.]
Mean. I ain't seen it, but. 'S in there hard 'nuff they could hook this thickass chain t' the cielin' an'...
[Nope, sick feeling's coming back. Let's not go there.]
no subject
[He's carefully looking over how the bracer is sunk into the flesh.]
I'm going to try cutting the top of it off first. Give myself some room to work on getting the part that's in your fin out.
no subject
[At least the trailing edge of his fin is going numb now, the rum finally doing its job.]
Korra ain't doin' good. Mako's gone. Ace's run off. Shit. 'S Chandra back? One a them fire types could maybe warm it up, make it softer, y' know?
No, cuz then I'd burn. Damn. We got anythin' else t' cut metal with?

Let's see what y' got.
[It can't be any worse than what he's been through, and even if it is... at least the intent is friendly.]
no subject
[Namur might drive him nuts sometimes, but Zeff is going to take no pleasure in this. It's going to hurt the fishman a lot.]
[He makes a detour to grab a spare chunk of iron for this. He's not gonna use his other kitchen equipment for this. Bad enough he's using his oven. He feels like he's committing a sin as he sticks the metal inside and heats up the oven to four hundred degrees.]
no subject
The hell y' gonna do, Gramps? 'S that oven really gonna get hot 'nuff t' melt this shit off?
no subject
[That seems downright cruel and unusual.]
The idea is to heat up the iron--which I know won't melt in the oven--and then press it to the ring to heat it up and soften it so it's easier to cut through. Best case scenario, the heat will do most of the work for us and melt through the gold.
[And he's already gathering dish towels to cover your fin so any melted gold doesn't end up on it.]
I'm gonna try and get the top off. Once the ends cool, we can try to pull out the half that's in your fin.
no subject
Gonna need a hell of a lot more a this shit 'fore yer through, that's for damn sure.
[He drops his head down to the table, using his arms to support it.]
no subject
[He'd rather have you unconscious drunk for this anyway.]
[He heads towards the pantry to do just that.]

[Zeff sets the rum down and covers Namur's fin with the dish towels. Then he pulls out the scrap iron from the oven using a set of kitchen tongs and presses it up against the gold. As suspected, the oven isn't hot enough to get the iron bar up hot enough to melt gold, so sticking Namur's fin in there would've been pointless.]
[However, he keeps pressing into the gold with the hot iron. Judging by the small dent he's creating, he's at least getting the idea of softening it to make it easier to shape or cut through working.]
