Racing or not, there is much to do and see on the days coming up to the Great Ghost Race. Port Chance is in full festival mode with food, dancing, games of luck and skill, and fireworks every evening. There are figures of Davy Jones everywhere, from statuettes to cloth dolls to painted signs, as if the residents are trying to ward off bad luck. Otherwise there is an air of festive mood, so come and mingle! Enjoy the sights and sounds! Gawk at the wide reverse waterfall as it goes up the mountain, or the more regular waterfall that goes down the other side.

The day begins gray and drizzly, the miserable sort of rain that just makes everything muddy and unpleasant. Just the luck of the locals of Isla Empieza that these April showers bring more outsiders instead of May flowers. As the day goes by, the rain gets heavier and the locals get surlier.
