Poison? I don't think I've ever encountered much.

[He uses his sword all the time and Ja'far never complained about poison. Or his lack of cooking skills. He takes the knife all the same and starts cleaning the fish. Here he manages quite well, he's done it a lot, as one would expect.]

Didn't want to cause any trouble for you. Your captain insisted of course. If you want me to catch some more I can.

You can never be too careful. Besides, any bits of rotting meat stuck to the blade work just as well as normal poison.

I'm the ship's cook. It's my damn job to be bothered about food. Speaking of, if I catch you sneaking anything out of the pantry, I'm kicking your ass overboard.

[With a peg leg. Which will hurt a lot.]

Could always use some salted fish in the stores. We'll probably be putting out to sea again soon enough now that people are getting their strength back.

[Sinbad slices a piece of the flesh and with his other hand pops it into his mouth. Hmm not bad!]

I wonder if I should try and find a cook.

Having a dedicated cook is the smart thing to do. You need someone to keep nutrients properly balanced to help prevent things like scurvy. Also they need to be able to manage the pantry so you don't end up in the middle of the ocean with no food and clean water.

Well we stocked up fine in the last port and mostly we catch what we eat. Fish and other sea creatures. Ja'far and I aren't too picky. I don't know about Vyse yet. Hope not because I can't manage much.

[Plus he's the one driving the ship.]

Using the sea to supplement what you get in town helps a lot. Plus it means you don't have to spend quite as much. But if you're heavily relying on it, one day you're gonna hit a patch of ocean where there's nothing for miles, and you better hope your crew isn't on the brink of starvation by that point.

That plus having a cook means some variety to what's being made. That helps boost morale on a long voyage. Hiring a good cook does you a world of favors in the long run.

Hmmm. So far I've been lucky then. We haven't been in any trouble here but I've done that at home. Left a port before I could get supplies. A great story but what came after was less pleasant. I was okay, I met Hinahoho and he shared his food and water with me.

Variety doesn't matter that much does it? I just kinda eat whatever I can get my hands on. Hmm it'd be nice to have a cooked meal sometime though. All kinds of new food to try right?

[He grins but he's being genuine. The meal the Imuchakk fed him was amazing but it had been a long time before then and since, since he's had anything that delicious.]

You'd be surprised how a little change in pace can perk things up when you've been on a stretch of ocean with no land in sight for weeks.

I'm not sure we've ever been that bored. I can find all the trouble I like!

What's the longest you've ever been at sea?

[And he's not flinching at you eating raw fish. Hell, some cultures consider it to be a delicacy. He's even served it on occasion, more frequently now since Namur in particular prefers his meat raw.]

Hmmm. The trip to Imuchakk was longer, probably a couple of weeks with minimal supplies. Mostly I was sailing up and down the Parthevia coast looking for work in each town. Not much luck though. I'd be gone maybe a week at a time. I was on the water every day but not constantly.

So you've never been on a particularly long voyage from the sounds of it. Short trips you can get away without having a cook, but I'm talking about when you're on the ocean for weeks with no land in sight.

We've been here a couple months now and mostly at sea. But you're right. We could use a cook.

[He grins.]

I'd ask you but that isn't acceptable behaviour on someone else's ship. No disrespect intended, cook!

None taken. [He grins at that.] As long as you don't try and shanghai me for the job. You'd regret it then.

[And not just because his crew would chase your ass down. He kicks hard.]

Nothing to worry about, forcing people ain't my style. I can wait for people. When the rukh will it. I don't feel we are meant to be together though. No life changing sensation when we met. Nothing like that.
