[If Grell was startled by his presence, she doesn't show it. She just continues staring into the tank.]

Not in such an environment. [To her, it felt like seeing the everyday life of fish. Perhaps it was how it was illuminated that has her mesmerized. She turns to him after a moment.] Is this how life is underwater for you?

Pretty much...[his eyes moved to a large turtle swimming past] except I usually don't see this many sea creatures so close to each other..they're more spread out, even in a reef. Well, unless there's a lot of food or something...then sometimes they come close together like this.

I made this diving bubble thing I can show people reefs in...I've only taken one crew member out in it so far but maybe I should take more of you. It's a shame you guys can't see this stuff like I do.

Hmm? Did you? [She wasn't aware of this bubble thing!] Where is it?

[She's willing to dive underwater to see what lies below their ship, even if it would mess up her hair.]

I keep it in my room. I'd keep it out somewhere if people could use it without me, but it's kinda hard to move and control without a strong swimmer like me to pull it along.

You wanna use it, just let me know any time we're at an island. I could potentially take people out in it while we're at sea too, but...that could potentially be very dangerous. Big things swim around in the open water in this world.

[he looked back into the tank] you see prettier stuff in reefs around island anyways. Like those turtles and clownfish and stuff.

Exactly how deep does this device go? And where are you even keeping it?

Hm....I dunno. I haven't tried to take it any deeper than 30 feet or so yet. It's...sorta experimental. I'm sure there's some kinda limit but I don't know what it is.

And like I said, it's in my room. Up against the wall. It not that big... When its got trapped air inflating it, it's only big enough for one or two people's upper body. But it's made of a metal frame and a thick plastic sheet and doesn't take up much room...

[Grell makes a face akin to 'what the hell even is that thing he's describing?'. She simply can't fathom how it could work, or what it looks like.]

...you'll have to show me what this looks like.

[he saw her look of confusion and realized he wasn't very good at describing the thing] erm, it's like....if you were to submerge an upside down glass into water. It'd have air trapped under it. 'Cept this 'glass' is much bigger and made of a metal frame and plastic weighed done by rocks instead of glass...

[he nodded a bit]

Yeah, it'd probably be better if I just showed you.

...you're not keeping rocks on the ship, are you? Also, that sounds dangerous! What if this...thing tips over? Anyone inside would drown!

[Except her, because reaper...]

[he raised an eyebrow] a few...why, is it somehow bad to keep a few rocks on the ship? If I didn't, i'd have to find new ones every time I took someone out in it.

As for it tipping over, that's what the rocks are for. I secure them around the edges of the device to weigh it down enough that it won't float to the surface and keep it level. Besides, drowning when you're anywhere near me is very unlikely.

[he didn't really want to go into detail, but he had a way to prevent that even if the diving bubble somehow ruptured]

[She crosses her arms, looking skeptical at his contraption.]

It sounds...primitive. [And yet, she isn't really surprised by such a fact.]

[he gave her a flat look]

Well of course it is. Do I look like an inventor to you? I make weapons, not advanced underwater machines.

[he glanced back at the aquarium fish. Explaining his contraption in excessive detail just to have her call it primitive was a little annoying even if it was true]

Anyway you wanna try it let me know, and if you don't, that's less trouble for me.
