After visiting so many civilized, fairly normal islands, it's time for the brave crew of the Katabami to go bother more giant animals on Monsuta.

A couple of months, maybe six. I practice what I know every morning.

Enough of this crew have mastery to offer you further instruction, if you're inclined to request it.

[She draws her sword from its sheath with the ease of an expert -- her sword is a one-handed, double edged straight sword, a jian. Its ornate nature suggests something of her high military rank back in her homeland.]

I am a master of the jian and the qiang [Chinese spear] and Mitsunari the... [she briefly pauses to recall the foreign word] katana. The Captain's choice in weaponry is highly unconventional and ill-suited to your stature, but he is your best choice for unarmed combat.

[She sheathes her sword once more, signalling the end of that matter. She offers a restrained smile.]

You will come to me for the majority of your work assignments regardless. Do you have much naval experience?

I wouldn't mind learning more. I have my sword, a pistol and a knife. I haven't worked with the knife much but Ace told me once I should. With my speed and size he thought it might be the best for me.

[She is welcome to offer her own assessments if she likes.]

As for experience, I've been here a year. I can clean very well, although no private quarters, and I can handle small repairs as well as adjusting sails.

[While knives are a suitable secondary weapon, Xun Yu would never personally recommend them as a primary choice in battle. It's not as if the sword or pistol are weapons that require strength over finesse and speed, as long as he doesn't try to fight in a manner in which strength is the deciding factor.]

[She'll keep that in mind for when she is selecting work.]

Remember that you're not bound to 'Ace's word here on the Katabami. I would suggest that you focus on only a single weapon discipline alongside the pistol. But much more importantly, think about what you personally wish to accomplish.

[Loyalty is no bad thing, but she thinks it hollow without honest, personal investment.]

I do not know what I personally wish to accomplish. That is why I'm here.

[His voice changes inflection slightly. There's mild desperation lurking beneath his words. He has no idea what to do with himself, that's the biggest problem.]

As for the knife, I believe that he was trying to use my speed and the fact that injuring myself is not a problem and turn it into an advantage to surprise opponents, a strategy I wouldn't disagree with, but you're right, if I try to do too many things I will never master any of them. I will stick with the sword. It is where I began and the sword itself is a cherished gift.

[He doesn't dislike Ace, he doesn't feel betrayed or jilted in any way, it's just that he doesn't know what he wants and he's been drifting and listless for a long time now. He needs direction and purpose and for that, he felt as though he needed a change.]

[She proceeds to assign him some general work which will also allow him to encounter the rest of the crew, in case he is yet to meet everyone.]

...Sometimes all that it takes is meeting the right person to give you real purpose. [For her it is Cao Cao, though she's always had focus.] I think that the Katabami will be good for you either way.

Hopefully it will be. I had someone like that here, but he left.

[He sighs softly.]

You should know I can't enter any private quarters aside from my own uninvited. I'm a vampire.

[Her eyebrows raise faintly as she nods in acknowledgement.]

...Forgive my ignorance, but I'm honestly not sure what that implies.

It's alright, most people wouldn't know. I'm also not very normal when it comes down to it. I'm a subspecies...nevermind. Anyhow, it means I require blood every three weeks or so, I have powers that normal humans do not and I cannot enter private quarters uninvited. Or anywhere really. I keep a normal schedule and I can go out in the sunlight, my heart is beating...all of that. But I am technically dead.

[Xun Yu mentally takes note of it all, and though she feels a pang of unease, she conceals it beneath her armour of polite composure.]

Would you mind clarifying a few details? Is blood your diet or a supplement? Are there restrictions on the kinds you can consume? What specific powers do you have?

[Natsuno nods, she can ask questions.]

Both. It isn't the only thing I consume, but without it I will be in a great deal of pain. It has to be human, and I do not hunt. It is distasteful and I'd rather suffer the ramifications than become a monster.

My powers are varied and not entirely untrained. I need to be full strength to use them.
