[As soon as the sun did not rise on the 1st, like others had suggested it would, Gan Ning wanted off Isla Empieza. He put out the call to his crew - get on the ship, leave no man behind. Or woman, Cynthia.

The storm hit while they were two days out from the island. It would take all hands on deck to keep the Nightfury from capsizing, good thing they have a couple of solid dragons to keep things in check. Just watch out for Gaius and his fiery pendant! By the time the storm blows out in the wee hours on the 4th, the charts put them drifting near to Eternal Bliss. Are the residents still pissed at pirates for what Kodachi did? Who cares, they need to land to make repairs. And maybe score some treasure, if anyone wants to go through the marriage requirement.

Well, we did just lose two, but.

How good're you with healin' magic? I dunno one kind from another but Brady was our go-to guy when we got all roughed up.

It's something I've been working on since arriving here. I can do basic healing spells well enough, they're fairly simple, and I think I could handle things such as broken bones now. I haven't had much of a chance to test it, to be honest. If you'd be open to having a potions lab on the ship, I can start brewing antidotes and healing salves, too.

Huh. Can't say no to that. I mean, not that we're rushin' headlong into trouble every other week, but we've been in a few scrapes and probably'll have the Navy on our asses more than not.

Sounds kinda like you're negotiatin' jumping ship for us.

I'll admit it wasn't my original intention when I came here, but I've been thinking about it. I assure you, I bring much more the proverbial table than just healing magic. The only thing is...

[He hesitates for a moment and then plows on.]

[Huffs out a sigh, crossing his arms and looking away.]

Yes. Or rather, the woman who will eventually become my mother is here.

[He looks back at Gan Ning.]

She's only seventeen or thereabouts right now.

Ouch. [can't help but chuckle at that] Sounds complicated.

But I get the gist. Family's family, eh? You don't wanna leave her behind. So it'd be two for the price o' one, then.

[he rubs his chin a bit] You both can do magic, then? Can't hurt. Long as you ain't bringin' any more baggage besides awkward family times, I got enough o' that when Lea and Roxas joined up.

[Arches an eyebrow. Do tell...]

No. No baggage. I'm on good terms with my crew. [You know. Mostly. Aside from them thinking he's a brat.] I just felt it was time for a change.

My mother knows more magic than I do, though, so she certainly wouldn't be a burden. I've done a lot of studying since arriving here, but I've missed a year of school already and she was in her final year, so there's that.

It's okay, then? For us to join you?

I don't see a reason to say no. And we did just lose some crew, so we got the room. In fact, you could probably just take their cabin.

'Long as you guys aren't gonna give me the hairy eyeball for doin' things like, oh, raidin' Navy bases to steal a ship and whoops we might have killed some soldiers. Like pirates do. A crew gets on better if there's a consensus on where we go and what we do when we get there.

[Gives an unconcerned shrug.]

I have no particular attachment to the people of this world, and certainly not the Navy. They've been nothing but trouble for my crew, a couple of them were even killed by their men.

[Also there was that whole thing where Sasuke and Itachi captured and...interrogated...a Navy solider.

At the mention of a cabin, he eyes Gan Ning a touch warily.]

...Are we meant to share?

[Sharing in general, he can do. Since boarding school and all. Sharing with his mother? Noooope.]

Nah, we got more cabins. Hell, maybe Cynthia wouldn't mind another girl around to share with.

[hahaha he'll be so wrong about the sharing. They'd have better luck rooming with Astrid, probably.]

We got this ship because it ain't been hollowed out to hold cargo, it has separate cabins up top and below. So, there's room.

[Lets out a breath in clear relief.]

Oh, thank Merlin. That might've changed things.

[Lots of cabins, though? Hmm.]

Do you think I'd be able to turn one of the spare cabins into a potions lab?

If we got the room, sure. Just watch out for Cynthia's treasure room, that's her space and ain't nobody sneakin' anything outta there. Including me.

'Cause the potions is for all the good stuff, yeah? Turnin' that down would be like tellin' the gunner he can't have an armory. If we had a gunner.

I'm not after anyone's treasure, don't worry. There's nothing in this world I so desperately want that I need to procure the funds to purchase it.

[He is used to living the high life, yes, but that is in a world with modern amenities, quite frankly. Also, he can Transfigure things into (fake) gold coins, SO THERE'S THAT.

...Well, except maybe potions ingredients, but. [Waves a hand.] I'll take care of that. I'm not sure yet what's available in this world and what isn't. Probably most things I'll need for the 'good stuff', as you said, I'll have to get from Miss Margie.

But in any case... [He grins.] Thank you for allowing us aboard.

Yeah, don't worry about it. We're in the habit of pickin' up strays, folks that don't fit in their crews. You ain't the first and won't be the last, I'm sure.
