Happy Days, Zombie Nights
Who: Hazmats!
Where: at sea and at Arco da Vella
When: June.
What: zombies. Also exploring Arco and seeing its own brand of weirdness, looking for treasure, etc.
Warnings: maybe some zombie violence
Style: whatever
Status: closed to Hazmats
The Nightfury leaves Li Yu Tiao after the festival and after a little aimless sailing, settles on a course southeast to Arco da Vella, mainly to follow rumors of treasure and to do visit somewhere they haven't been before. By the time they turn onto this week-long journey, it's already June, and the Dog's warnings about something coming catch up to them before they land.
At sea the night of the 15th when the first zombies attack, it becomes even more imperative to make it to land. Because of course, it would never happen on land, right? Wrong. Plus, when they get there, the strange colorless nature of Arco da Vella shows itself, not that it's as dangerous or deadly as zombies but it's just one thing after another around here.

But why OH WHY did her captain have to open his stupid door!? Those things were right behind her. The last thing she needed was for someone to randomly waltz into a zombie infested hallway. She didn't even have time to run into her room and snatch a pokeball from her desk. Oh no. She dashed right back to where Ning and Gaius' room was and shoved Ning back into his room. Shutting the door behind her.]
DO NOT OPEN THIS DOOR.

Damn, woman, what the...
[stumbles into the crate in the middle of the room. THUMP. Ouch. Much cursing in Chinese. Finally he fumbles and finds the lantern that usually sits on that crate - now on the floor - and strikes a light to see by.]
You wanna explain? I just got to sleep and now there's all this screamin' and you're invading my room...
no subject
There are things out there...DEAD things.
[Now she'll just hide under that desk so he wouldn't see that she was shaking.]
no subject
[he's not afraid, but there is a sudden uptick in wary concern in his voice]
Whaddaya mean, dead things? Like........ghosts?
no subject
[Suddenly she hears banging on the door and crawls over to the side of the room where the beds were. She DID NOT want to be near the doors right now. Cynthia wasn't equipped for a late night ambush. Let alone an abush by zomies. Were they supposed to burn them? How? WHERE!? And how the hell can she get to her pokemon now??]
I need my pokemon.
no subject
[inside: oh hell fuck shit damn]
What, how'd they get on the ship? We're at sea! Dammit, this place, it ain't right.
[his mind jumps from wait it's the fifteenth to but it's the wrong month! and do we have anything to offer them to they can't be my ancestors! The banging on the door makes his head whip back toward it, and his hand instinctively grope toward River Master leaning on the wall.]
How're we supposed to get 'em? Damn. [and then he chances a yell, just in case:] Gaius? That you, man?
no subject
If that was Gaius, he'd say so!
[And, of course, the groaning on the other side was definitely not the sound of everyone's ginger haired thief.]
From what I recall, burning, decapitation, shooting them in the head with guns. Urgh, the ONE day I actually need those stupid pistols, and I leave them in the storage room. Listen, if I could get to my room, I'm sure my pokemon could make quick work of these guys.

[startled by more banging on the door. For all his bullheaded bravery, undead things who really ought to be in the underworld give him the heebie-jeebies.]
So what you're sayin' is, you want me to clear a path. [because he has the sword and taking off heads is what he do.] Dammit, if this curses me, I'm gonna come back and haunt you.
[not really, but he does know that he's not letting those nasty things get Cynthia. So he finally grabs River Master, hefts it bravely, and then grabs the scythe as well just in case.]
Right, then. Open the door for me, I'm gonna use my ability to take 'em all down at once.
[it's very hard to use that musou burst of speed and open the door at the same time. He could just plow through it but then he'd have a broken door in the middle of an invasion and that never ends well.]
no subject
[But she was still glad she had a stupidly brave friend like Ning. Stupidly brave and strong friend. She gives him a quick kiss on the cheek for good luck, before walking over to the desk she was currently using as a barricade.]
Don't die, okay? I still need you.
no subject
[once the door is open, he kicks off with that uncontrollable speed, the blade of the sword held across his body and one arm behind it to brace it. He is a high-speed scythe himself, now, and disappears through the door just as the first pirate-zombie staggers in.
Alas, he misses the neck. On most of them. He does mow straight through them, though, cutting them into pieces and clearing a path down the corridor toward the other cabins. He runs out of energy at the far end and looks back, somewhat disappointed that some of them are still moving. Maybe just an arm off here, half a torso there, but they're still groaning and reaching. That means he'll have to come back through and take their heads one by one. It's disgusting work, but it must be done.]

She darts down the hallway and straight for her bedroom. It was a relief her pokemon were still very much safe in their pokeballs, because now she can unleash hell on those zombies. Hell in the form of a very pissed off fire breathing dragon.
Smell that? That's the smell of barbecued zombie.]
no subject
He hears a movement behind him and twists fast, bringing the scythe on its chain out of his belt and beheading the zombie that somehow escaped the frontal assault.]
Ugh. Disgusting.
[and this from a guy who's used to battle]
no subject
Don't worry, they'll clean up the mess later.
As for Cynthia, she's by her captain's side, as usual.]
Thank you, Kitty.
no subject
What the hell is this? We're at sea. Where'd they come from? What do they want? They're...they're really corpses.
[it's awful coming to that realization. So not ghosts. Probably won't respond like ghosts, either.]
no subject
Well, just so you know, those things were called zombies. Not really sure how you'd deal with them back in your home. But is every reference to them ever, they're evil and need to be burned or decapitated. Also that you aren't supposed to get bitten by them or you'll turn into one.
[Suddenly eyes the shirtless man for any bite marks.]
no subject
Zombies. Don't know either, we don't usually see corpses walk around again. Just ghosts. [beat] I know how to deal with ghosts, at least the ones who might be my own ancestors. [assholes need to stay dead and not bug him for money, is what it is]
Guess we'll have to try your method, then. It seems to work, anyway.
no subject
All of the mental pouting.]
We don't really have zombies back home. They exist in stories and movies. But that's just about it. As for ghosts, we have ghost types. But those aren't really the same. as what I've been seeing here.
[Except Spiritomb. Maybe. One day, Kitty. One day she'll tell you the real story fo where Spiritombs come from.]
I don't mind having my pokemon out and patrolling the boat. But I'm worried the boat might not handle their form of "protection" if this turns into an everyday thing, Arceus forbid.

[and of course he gets a grim thought, then] ...they look all bloated like drowning victims. They must've come from the sea. You don't suppose Davy Jones sent 'em?
no subject
An army of undead drowning victims. Definitely sounds like something Jones would unleash on us for no apparent reason. Guess now I'm going to have to barricade my cabin and sleep with a knife in my hands every night. Now that the babies are on patrol duty.
no subject
[he double-checks his weapons, hefting one in each hand - River Master on the right, Dark Thresher on the left]
I'm gonna make a sweep o' the ship to make sure we got 'em all. And get everybody in their cabins. Nobody should be out right now, get where it's safe.
no subject
[But she does give him that worried look she usually reserves for her captain when she feels that something bad's about to happen.]
Do you need me to come with you? Considering the circumstances, my room isn't really safe right now.
no subject
[Gan Ning is a proud advocate of the buddy system!]

[Considering her choices at the moment. Last she checked, all the little boys were bunking in one room, and the two adult males were in another. Meaning her choices were pretty limited. Sure she'd be safe bunking with the little boys. But she needs her sleep.]
Actually? Maybe I will stick to barricading my cabin.

[And in the tune of Ning's usual "if orochi can't kill me..." spiel.]
I survived an attack by an interdimensional legendary dragon pokemon, and the near destruction of my world. Zombies shouldn't be too hard.
