Happy Days, Zombie Nights
Who: Hazmats!
Where: at sea and at Arco da Vella
When: June.
What: zombies. Also exploring Arco and seeing its own brand of weirdness, looking for treasure, etc.
Warnings: maybe some zombie violence
Style: whatever
Status: closed to Hazmats
The Nightfury leaves Li Yu Tiao after the festival and after a little aimless sailing, settles on a course southeast to Arco da Vella, mainly to follow rumors of treasure and to do visit somewhere they haven't been before. By the time they turn onto this week-long journey, it's already June, and the Dog's warnings about something coming catch up to them before they land.
At sea the night of the 15th when the first zombies attack, it becomes even more imperative to make it to land. Because of course, it would never happen on land, right? Wrong. Plus, when they get there, the strange colorless nature of Arco da Vella shows itself, not that it's as dangerous or deadly as zombies but it's just one thing after another around here.

Special June the 15th Zombie post, aw yiz
No, it was after she felt fingers tangle through her hair. Now, from experience, there was only one man on this ship that was allowed to do that to her hair. So when she turned to find a decaying corpse...well...]
O-Oh...Oh shit.
[If anyone needed her, she'd be running around the ship screaming ZOMBIES and looking for her pokemon. Yup.]

What the hell Cynthia?!
[it's dark in the corridor, there were no lights on in the cabin, so he couldn't see exactly what she was running from. All he knew is, she just zoomed by him and if he'd taken one step out of the door she would have bowled him over. The fuck, even.]
no subject
But why OH WHY did her captain have to open his stupid door!? Those things were right behind her. The last thing she needed was for someone to randomly waltz into a zombie infested hallway. She didn't even have time to run into her room and snatch a pokeball from her desk. Oh no. She dashed right back to where Ning and Gaius' room was and shoved Ning back into his room. Shutting the door behind her.]
DO NOT OPEN THIS DOOR.

Damn, woman, what the...
[stumbles into the crate in the middle of the room. THUMP. Ouch. Much cursing in Chinese. Finally he fumbles and finds the lantern that usually sits on that crate - now on the floor - and strikes a light to see by.]
You wanna explain? I just got to sleep and now there's all this screamin' and you're invading my room...
no subject
There are things out there...DEAD things.
[Now she'll just hide under that desk so he wouldn't see that she was shaking.]
no subject
[he's not afraid, but there is a sudden uptick in wary concern in his voice]
Whaddaya mean, dead things? Like........ghosts?

The first day, he's going to keep the crew around him, and not encourage anyone to just wander off until they're sure they're not going to be attacked. So, he can see the island in color, watching the black and white fade away as long as he has someone in the crew around. It comes and goes, depending on who's nearest him and who he brushes up against. He doesn't see the crystals, though. So he's not convinced there's treasure here after all - but as long as they're going to be attacked every night, he'll fight on land rather than on the ship, even if the colors drain away and leave everything black while he does.
Fight with him, drag him around the island. See if he can awaken the ability to see crystals.]

Being in Arcos is strange. The Night Fury doesn't much like the way the colors disappear, but he's found it returns when he's around people he likes, so it wouldn't be unusual to find him shadowing people closely, especially the ones that decide to roam further.
Oh hai Ningy!]
no subject
Hey, Toothless. What's up? All settled back in again? 'Course ya are, you guys fell right back into the fighting like you never were gone. [and boy is he glad for that fire power.]
no subject
He's come to remember everyone aboard the ship, and hey, battles have this way of bringing people closer.
As those colors seep back through the dull landscape in front of him, Toothless perks up, his tail swishing.]
no subject
Yeah, me too.
[no, he doesn't know what that noise meant but eh. He's tired enough that it doesn't matter. Good dragon, have all the pets.]

Of course, the colors would never really last because she could never stay around him long enough. There was trasure to be found, and she found herself staring at the black and white tree at the center of the black and white island at the center of the black and white lake. Hoping there was a clue there, somewhere.]
no subject
Whaddaya think? A tree in the middle of a lake like that.
just...forwarded it a bit
[She looks up at her captain and tugs at his pant sleeve. Please sit down, she needs to talk to you about something.]
Hey Captain, have you read Marco's new journal entry lately?
yosh!
[obeys the tugging and flops down in the grass. Nice green fragrant grass.]

It doesn't take too long for the viking to stumble across Gan Ning's path, momentarily confused by the sudden splash of color falling over the island. Green eyes scrutinize his Dragon Blade (which is conveniently alight) before darting over toward the man he finds himself back-to-back with.]
Um, hey there, Captain! Nice weather we're having.
[Yeah, he remembers Ning now. Note the drawl in his sarcasm as he moves the blade around to ward off the gross things.]
no subject
Ugh. What I wouldn't do for one good night's sleep. Hey, can that thing set 'em on fire? Turns out they burn pretty good.
no subject
Right? This is worse than hearing a bunch of Terrible Terrors fight over one fish.
Well, it is a live flame! Since they're not dragons, I can try??

[there are, after all, plenty of zombies to go around!]

Opeeeen
His first encounter with the things likely resulted in flames. Since it seemed so effective, it's not a tactic he's abandoned, although he reserves it as needed.
However once they make landfall he'll be more than happy to be in open space than stuck on the ship with those things. ...until he realizes that those things will still appear at night no matter where they are. Greaaaat.
The color, or lack of- it keeps switching and it's a bit confusing, not to mention distracting, keeps Gaius on edge a little at first, but it doesn't deter him from doing a bit of scouting on his own. So far he hasn't seen anything worthwhile, but it's difficult not to notice how colors appear when he's near some people. Until the zombies return, anyway.]
Just when you think these islands can't get any weirder...
[His schedule's been a little flipped since he's picked up that it's better to sleep in the day when the nights were hell. Having woke up this particular day just a little before nightfall, Gaius watches the distant glob of light as it starts to make its descent towards the sea's horizon.
Then he reaches for his sword, slipping it out of its sheathe, giving it an idle twirl.]

Until the sun set and the zombies turned up. She still found the time to wander around this island. Being alone all the time meant all she could see was trees and dirt. But the moment she saw her favorite ginger wandering around by himself. Colors just started pouring into her vision like a huge psychedelic slap to the face.]
Woah...
no subject
What the heck?
no subject
Do you see it too?
no subject
[He trails off as he brings his eyes towards her again, staring.]
...you're kind of... [Finger-wiggle, vague hand gesture.] ...glowing.
