Happy Days, Zombie Nights
Who: Hazmats!
Where: at sea and at Arco da Vella
When: June.
What: zombies. Also exploring Arco and seeing its own brand of weirdness, looking for treasure, etc.
Warnings: maybe some zombie violence
Style: whatever
Status: closed to Hazmats
The Nightfury leaves Li Yu Tiao after the festival and after a little aimless sailing, settles on a course southeast to Arco da Vella, mainly to follow rumors of treasure and to do visit somewhere they haven't been before. By the time they turn onto this week-long journey, it's already June, and the Dog's warnings about something coming catch up to them before they land.
At sea the night of the 15th when the first zombies attack, it becomes even more imperative to make it to land. Because of course, it would never happen on land, right? Wrong. Plus, when they get there, the strange colorless nature of Arco da Vella shows itself, not that it's as dangerous or deadly as zombies but it's just one thing after another around here.

[he looks down over the railing at the shambling masses just sort of staring up at the ship as if trying to figure out how to get there. Boy, they really do look like hordes of snake demons from this distance.]
Home, or wherever you want to go.

Home. Home for sure. Because things back there got just as complicated as our current situation. Maybe not as extreme, but. Still pretty much a big deal.

[he glances at Hiccup, letting him explain if he wants and if not, it's cool.]
Then we gotta work to keep each other alive long enough to get home. All of us.

[He does realize he hasn't really talked to anyone about this, head bobbing from side to side as he wavers.]
Between my dad wanting me to become chief, trying to find this Drago Bludvist guy to keep him from starting a war, and finding out my mom's alive and a crazy dragon lady? Yyyyeah. A lot of work to be done.
But I can definitely work with this plan.

[no your-mom jokes here, nosirree]
You're in line to be chief, though? Not bad. I mean, I know guys who're glad when their elder brothers get the inheritance instead of them, but at the same time, steppin' up to that. That's a pretty big thing. No wonder things're crazy for ya.

Since I'm his only son, it's kinda inevitable. He'd say stuff like [Best Stoick imitation:] "YOU are the man for the job, Hiccup! I wouldn't have trusted ANYone else with it. I KNOW you would MAKE me PROUD, son." [And back to his regular voice.] I get he'll be all big and proud when I do step in for him, but...right now isn't the best time, y'know?
I just...I just want to travel the world. See what's out there. Sorta like what I've been doing here with you guys. [A beat.] Maybe with...a little less of the walking dead.

I'd say that sounds just like Lord Sun Jian, but...no, no it don't. Lord Sun Quan couldn't even manage that kinda bluster! Your dad sounds like a piece o' work.
You got a good idea, though. People respect a guy who's put in his time with the regular folk before becomin' their lord.

[Which Hiccup hopes Stoick would be continuing for a while longer.]
A lot of expectation is riding on that, too, but if it's part of the job...

village chiefs, he understands, at least. It's not as lofty and burdensome a hereditary job as Lord of Wu, but he can still see the parallels. Poor kid's just a toned-down Sun Ce in the end. Gan Ning gets it, and gives Hiccup a good clap on the shoulder in solidarity.]

[For once, he doesn't collapse under the captain's hand. He wavers, but he still stays put.
Having Gan's support helps. The man obviously has the experience with these matters under his belt, and it was nice to get some insight from someone who was some odd years older than he was. It was like talking to Gobber, in a way.]
