Well he's certainly good for that...

"Yes...yes I suppose you did." He buries his face in his own tea to avoid showing her a blush. He doesn't do that. "and you're welcome."

"Don't worry, I won't be taking your title of Most Clever Man in the Universe just yet!" She makes a noise that's the closest thing to laugh she's made since the whole ordeal.

Then she puts her empty cup on her tray and leans forward on her bunk as she watches him, a teasing smile on her face, "Doctor, you're not... *blushing* are you...?"

"Well good, I'd hate to lose it," he replies, and then shakes his head at her other question. "No...no, 'course not."

He totally is.

Selphie puts her tray aside so she can sit on the edge of the bed, closer to where he's sitting in the chair. "Are you sure?" She giggles and reaches forward to poke lightly at his cheek, "It's nice. It suits you!"

"Sure I'm sure." He blinks a little at the poke and laughs. It's good to see her already perking up a little bit, so he'll play along. "And why d'you suppose it suits me then?"

[booyaka_boom]

"Eh?" That wasn't a question she had been expecting. "Well, I mean, not that you're not already very handsome or anything but.. cause you've got pale skin it looks nice with some colour and...kinda brightens up your eyes." And now it's her turn to be blushing.

Well he wanted to throw her off her guard, of course. "Does it? Well, thank you dear. But I don't think my eyes could ever be quite as bright as yours, you know. You've got that mischievous spark, after all. A real troublemaker, you."

[booyaka_boom]

"A...mischievous spark?" That made her blush all the more, placing her hands on her cheeks, feeling the heat in her palms. "I'm not a trouble maker... Not really. Uh, I mean, apartfrom all that trouble on the boat and stuff..."

"Sure you are, lookit you, saying things just so I'll blush." He grins and reaches out to pat her shoulder gently. "And no, that wasn't your fault."

[booyaka_boom]

"Huh? I would never do a thing like that!" Look, she even put on her best innocent face, wide eyes and everything. When he patted her shoulder, her expression faltered slightly, "Hmm. I know..."

Shaking his head, he squeezes one more time. "I mean it, seriously. Not your fault. And I don't want you to think it was. The military here...well...insane isn't quite the right word because all military organizations are...but they certainly aren't normal. The whole ambush, this thing...it was a mess. And really, it was partially my fault for not thinking of it, and not being there to stop it."

Selphie just drops her gaze and nods her head slowly. But at that last part she looks quickly back up at him, "What?! No way! How could you possibly have known?"

"Because I've seen it before. Granted, this attack came with no provocation, but still. Should've figured that after Ace's stunt, they'd be looking for trouble. And I should've spent my time working on something useful to defend the ship, not...fooling around with toilets."

[booyaka_boom]

Selphie pulled back and shook her head, stubbornly crossing her arms over her chest. "Nope. I'm not gonna sit here and let you talk all this crap."

[lonelygod]

"No?" He looks genuinely perplexed. "You think I've done the right thing making heated toilets instead of a perception filter, then? You know if I had done that, none of this would've happened, right?"

[booyaka_boom]

"But you were there when we needed you, when I needed you, the most. And you saved me. So - are we just gonna sit here and talk about what we should've done different?" She sighs, a tired looked crossing her face. "Cause I, for one, right now. I'm just happy I'm alive. And I'm only alive cause you helped me get outta there."

"Right." He subsides for the moment, but internally he's still kicking himself. Because he's the Doctor, and he made a mistake. A mistake that could've cost lives.

"Sorry. Yes. You're right." No. He pauses.

"I'm glad your alive."

[booyaka_boom]

Selphie throws him a rather pouty look, shrugging a shoulder slightly, "You could sound a little more pleased about that fact." And despite how unimpressed she was a moment before, there's a little smile growing.

"Well, I am." His expression quirks back to a smile, of course. "I'm very glad you're alright. And I promise it won't happen again."

[booyaka_boom]

"You do know that that's a pretty big promise, don't you? Sure you can keep it?" Even if there's some gravity to what she's saying, Selphie looks quite amused, swinging her lega alughtly from the edge of her bunk.

"Well, yeah. I'm going to do my level best, you know. And I'm the Doctor. My level best is a bit more than you might expect."

He smiles while watching her, glad to see her bouncing around just a bit more like usual.

[booyaka_boom]

"Well.. I didn't expect all of that stuff. Y'know, with the flying metal and the crashing and the explosions. I mean, I knew you were clever, just not quite that clever." She hadn't known he was so capable of being so angry either, but she keeps that to herself. It's nicer keep the xonversation happy and light.

[lonelygod]

"Well, magnets are really wonderful little things. When you know how to supercharge them and play with polarity it's pretty good for causing a bit of mayhem. Sorry if it scared you, though. They maybe made a bit more racket than I expected."

It's really better not to bring up that anger. He doesn't like getting angry, or talking about it, but it totally does happen.

Selphie bows her head then raises a hand as if to wave away the very idea of being scared. Even though she had never been so terrified in her entire life. "Nah nah the magnets were fine. Besides they got us here, to having tea and cake!"

"That it did, didn't it?"

He takes up the cake he'd set aside for himself and starts munching. "I trust your feeling well enough to finish what's left, right?
