[Xun Yu says as she comes to stand at the railing, not far from the young man.]

Treating this as real and expending your energy productively is a better strategy than fretting over the inscrutable.

Hmmm?

[He mutters, looking over at the woman that just decided to come by him. He offers her a grin, shaking his head as if to show her worries are misplaced.]

Ah, I'm not really fretting. Just kind of, what's the woooord...uhh...more like excited. Never been on an adventure before like this, it's like straight out of Treasure Island. 'Cept the pirates are the good guys.

Ah... forgive my mistake.

[His posture had thrown her off, though she's glad to be wrong in this case, as evidenced by the polite smile she gives him in return.]

I'm afraid that I am unfamiliar with Treasure Island too. But I can tell you that there is no greater teacher than experience.

Nah, s'all good.

[Worry was not something he wanted to spread around, so he would just stand back up straight. He smiles ear to ear at her words.]

Really? Never read it? Where I'm from everyone's pretty much got that story down pat. Still, it'll be nice to actually do something like that than reading it.

[He extends his left hand out to her, still smiling all the while.]

My name's Cross, by the way. What about you?

[She looks to his hand with interest, but without recognition -- her lack of immediate response is a clear sign that the gesture is alien to her. She introduces herself nonetheless.]

Xun Yu.

[Yet she's a sharp lady and eager for knowledge, and so after a few seconds she mirrors his gesture, extending her left hand and delicately tilting her head in expectation. It's a wordless cue that if he takes the lead then she will learn his manner of greeting.]

Truthfully, I haven't read any stories originating from outside of my country.

Uhhhh...

[He's definitely feeling more awkward the longer he holds his hand out. Her name does make him look back at her questionably. Well...that certainly was different.

He can only eye her doing the same thing now with her hand but still not picking up on what it means. So he'll take her hand in his and shake it in the fashion of a greeting.]

It's a handshake.

And, uh, what country are you from?

[That's simple enough to pick up. She shakes back, and mentally times how long it lasts for reference: a gesture like this no doubt has a timeframe of appropriate continuance.]

China.

[She answers. Really, a better question is when, where she is concerned. Her armour hints at that fact.]

Is a handshake only used as a greeting, or does it also serve other purposes?

Thaaaat'd probably explain it.

[And he stops shaking about three seconds.

But, her armour does make him look questionably at her. He's never seen a suit like that before.]

Huh, what?

Oh, right hand shakes. Uh yeah usually. Some people use them to make agreements.

[Xun Yu lowers her arm back down to her side.]

I see... [She stores that information away, then regards Cross curiously.]

Where did you call home?

Uh, well...I was born in a world called Celestia if that means anything?

[He highly doubts it. No one on earth even knew about that world so what's the chance that this woman would?]

[Nil, apparently.]

Unfortunately not.

[She says apologetically.]

Ah, didn't think so. It's fine. No one's supposed to know about it anyways.

[He gives a shrug in return to her words.]

But, you know other worlds so what does it matter now, right?

It is true that it's better to focus on the present.

[She concedes, her tone friendly.]
