[Marco and Ace were a serious fire hazard, yet both persisted. Ace glowered at Marco from the side for a bit, especially as the mass off feathers Marco somehow made as dexterous as hands ruffled his hair and kept some of it pointed to the sky.

Still, he wanted Marco's company, so he went for the bread. Marco's touchy palette had meant that Ace would have to make him something plain. Oddly enough, he GUESSED hummus was a vegetarian topping and came out on top as a result. The odd assortment of condiments to follow, though, would probably surprise Marco.] Hrnn. [He grumbled.]

I don't wanna think like Pops just to think like Pops--I know I'm gettin' stronger... and I dunno if I'm gettin' smarter, but I think I'm gettin' to be mean enough in the good way.

The kinda way that Pops was--to keep people off his friends' backs.

[He calmed down, spreading the hummus with a butter knife, curious about the texture. Keeping his hands busy made the world somewhat easier.]

Which makes it worse for girls, too. I've been gettin' slapped a lot more, lately. I'm not exactly interested in havin' the girls on the crew get creeped out.

[Though admittedly, Ace was doing that already without so much as consciously trying.]

Think like yourself. The important things wind up enough like Pops that it is just as well in the end, yoi.

What exactly are you doing that you're getting slapped by the ladies? Did you try to stick them in the nurse's uniform? [This is not because he thinks you did, this is because Marco and Thatch are planning to ask a few of them to dress up for tradition's sake?]

Hmm. Yeah, that much I get, but--

[Ace stopped and stared at Marco, unable to answer a question he didn't hear if only because the blood rushing to his face demanded he ask another question instead.]

Would the girls do that, though!? What would it take!?

We have to ask them.

We might need to make it very worth their while too. [Since Marco kind of paid Pops' nurses a LOT in order to have them look pretty enough that Whitebeard would "listen" and the girls wouldn't be too offended.]

Oi, Marco! That'd be the greatest! You'd really be pulling your weight, here!

[Ace didn't have to infer that he was calling Marco lazy. His words did that plenty.

Still, he had to sort of drive the point home--]

Now you can finally stop building nests everywhere and do somethin' awesome!

Gah! Damn it! [When the pecks came, Ace burst into fire and flew out the window with Marco--because he was going to throw that damned bird in a barrel of tar.]

[Sinks his talons into Ace's shoulder and flaps his wings so that they both run around together. Yeah? Try to get rid of him now fucker!]

Oi! Stop it, Marco! I'm gonna-- [Digging into the fiery bastard, Ace tried to roll around on the ground and pin Marco to get his talons out.

Even if he was fire, Marco could hurt him and that was just unfair... or, less unfair.]

[Hops off and switches into human form, tugging Ace into an arm.]

What was that? Phoenixes rule and sparks are just our food??

[There! There was an arm to grab! Ace, in a keen display of flexibility, tried bending himself backwards to try and hook a leg around one of Marco's.]

You glittery jackass!

Close enough.

[This does indeed work, but Marco just goes with it to try to wrestle Ace to the ground.]

[At that, Ace got an idea. He reached up, holding his arm straight up--before he punched through his OWN stomach to try and sock Marco.

Unwittingly, aiming for the balls.]

[Switches to bird hybrid and screeches.]

[Fuck you Fire-man.]

[Headbutt.]
