The Shepherds had picked up several new crew members in recent days, but it seemed that the world they were now in had seen fit to share with them another new addition: the presence of bowls of heart shaped candy strewn about the ship.

It seemed shenanigans were about to be afoot.

A whole bunch of food and a really loud--

[ She cuts herself off when he just grabs her hand, looking a little bit perplexed. ]

What are you doing?

[ She doesn't want to like. Swat him away because he's little but... she's not comfortable with hand-holding. ]

Oh! Uh--

[He's staring down at his hand, at her hand. He's staring like he isn't even sure what just happened. Or why he'd want to do something so mushy and uncool like this in the first place.]

I'm...holding your hand?

Obviously. Why?

[ This is a big question because she doesn't really want to be mean to little kids-- especially one who she thought was pretty okay. ]

I... [He blinks a few times, looks from her face down to her hand again, then lets go.]

I dunno. It just seemed like the right thing to do for a minute. I can't really explain it.

[He frowns and scratches the back of his head. Why did he? Sure, Cheria's always whining at him to hold her hand when she's in bed sick, but Weiss isn't sick. And he doesn't particularly like holding hands either.]

Well-- [ This is pretty confusing to Weiss, but she's trying to keep herself in check. After all, telling the kid not to grab her hand like that might be harsh. ]

It's best to save those for important situations and people you care a lot about.

[For the record, Asbel isn't making any further hand-holding attempts. He seems okay standing where he is - although he's never been particularly good at standing still.]

Important situations? [He frowns at that, not following.] What do you mean?

Like if you're leading someone out of a dark area or you don't want to get separated.

[ You know, things where you would hold an adult's hand. ]

Or if you're dating someone, but that's probably not going to be an issue for a while.

The first two I get, but dating? [Asbel scrunches up his face.]

It's bad enough Cheria makes me hold her hand whenever she's stuck in bed sick. I don't really want to have to go around holding someone else's hand all the time...

You wouldn't have to hold their hand all the time. I told you already, that's a ways off. [ She moves her hands to her hips. ] It's not like I hold hands with anyone either.

Hopefully a really long ways off... I've gotta become a knight first. Maybe later I'll worry about things like that.

[Or maybe he won't. Maybe he'll remain completely and utterly dense in the romance department.]

Oh! So then, you're dating someone but you don't hold hands?

I'm not dating someone!

[ Whatever else he said, this is most important. ]

[Asbel holds up his hands in a non-threatening gesture, leaning a little away just in case she decides to throttle him. You never know. Girls are sometimes terrifying.]

Okay, okay! Easy! You're not dating anyone.
