Heya, glad you made it.
[He tucks the spyglass before pointing back down towards deck.]
Okay, so I'm thinking we should probably get you better acquainted with a weapon. You know, just in case we're in a fix like the whole Navy thing. We're gonna have to go back down for that, of course.
no subject
And he was feeling pretty proud of himself, too.]
You mean I climbed all the way up here just to go back down again???
no subject
no subject
I'll appreciate that fact once I get back onto the deck.
[Hiccup then lowers himself from the rail, trying to find his footing on the ropes. It's harder with one foot, man.]

no subject
The other thing he needs to work on is remembering how wide the ropes are in comparison to his prosthetic.
Near the bottom of the rigging, the boy hangs upside-down, clearly not amused at his current state.]
no subject
You can probably learn to do that just using one leg and upper arm strength. ...maybe.
no subject
Oh, now you tell me.
[He actually just got that now, too. The hand is taken as he grabs onto the rigging with a free hand, untangling his prosthetic leg first. Having the handhold helps him regain his balance and upright position.]
no subject
[He waits until Hiccup's gotten himself down before he starts towards the stern of the ship. He pauses by a couple of barrels to pick up a bundle that he'd set there earlier, tucking it beneath an arm as they go.]
no subject
Curiosity strikes as the thief acquires that bundle, of course.]
That's a pretty big bundle for one weapon, don'tcha think?
no subject
[With a brief grin, he uncovers the pair of swords once they've reached a suitable spot on the deck. He holds one in either hand, testing the weight against each other before he holds one of them out to Hiccup.]
Here, try this one.
no subject
[The sword's hilt feels very different from the swords he's use to sharpening and repairing. He's almost surprised he can lift it without too much effort. Then again, it's nothing like a broadsword.]
Not bad in the weight department. [He turns it over, gripping the hilt to trace a line in the air.] It's really light.
no subject
[He hefts the other one, tossing its scabbard aside with the cloth that had covered it.]
So, got any experience with 'em?
no subject
Bronze. No wonder I haven't seen anything like this...
I have experience sharpening them, sure. The only thing I've used so far is a dagger. Obviously that isn't anywhere near an actual sword.
no subject
Please tell me you at least know how to hold one.
no subject
[Hiccup holds it...one way. Oh, nope, he switches hands. And fixes the angle.
See? He can do it.]
no subject
....now I'm really glad I didn't sharpen that thing first. You'd probably hack off your own leg.
Here.
[He steps over to make a few adjustments to that grip there. You're left-handed, right? Okay then, maybe a little this way...]
no subject
[But now being posed like a ball-joint doll into the right form. Yes, left-handed, that's how it works. It feels more comfortable.]
no subject
Okay, that looks better. But how's it feel to you? That's the important part. If you feel pretty good where you are, then let's see a couple of practice swings.
no subject
That feels a little better.
[Another shift. Shoulders tighten and slump slightly, but the next swing looks more natural.]
no subject
[He brought up the iron blade he held, nodding for Hiccup to give a swing, which he'd block.]
no subject
[A pause. With all of his Hiccup might, he swings, bronze sword bouncing off of the iron one like rubber. He gets to feel the impact running through his arms.
Of course, Gaius may not have felt very much on his end. Excuse the boy as he recoils and makes a face.]
no subject
If you go falling back that far by hitting a stationary weapon, I'd hate to see where you end up if you hit a moving one.
no subject
Iiit'd probably hurt just as much. Maybe even worse. But I can do this! I think!
no subject
[He smiles lopsidedly as he raises the blade again.]
Try this again, then?
