[Log || 004] Empieza and Aeolipile

What: Picking up new crew members and recovering from the Navy battle! Plus shenanigans.
Warnings: DRAGON!!! But no, nothing really. Probably.

[Even though he'd only ever seen them in the cave previously, it's obvious enough to Gaius how eager they are to move on. He smiles as he watches them a moment, then starts to walk ahead of them before turning, gesturing with a nod of his head.]

Come on. There's trail we can take along the shoreline that should get us to the docks without having to cut through town.

Hold on a sec...

[She was grateful to him for helping her with this, and even providing an alternative route so she wouldn't have to deal with the townsfolk. But as a safety precaution, she returned her pokemon to their balls one by one. Well all except Garchomp since she was helping Cynthia carry the sacks of coins.]

Probably best not to walk around with all of them out at once.

Okay, what just happened? -er, I guess you can explain as we go.

Oh, I was just returning them to their...oh right.

[See Cynthia? THIS is why people keep mistaking you for a damn sea witch. But she takes one of her pokeballs out to show the man as they walked. Her dragon trailing behind them.]

This is a pokeball. I can use this to catch creatures from my world and...tame them.

[He eyes the thing, because no matter how you look at it, it's impossible to shove a creature of any size into that. It's gotta be magic of some sort, which makes it a little easier to wrap his head around.]

So...it's like a fancy sorta net? Huh. Is it only for catching creatures or can you hold other stuff in there?

[Because that would be handy.]

I guess you could call it that. It's only for catching creatures and storing them. But I am able to give my pokemon one item to hold while they're in there. If that's worth mentioning?

Just thought I'd ask. Would be pretty useful if you could use it to tote around your belongings, don't you think? What a space saver!

Well like I said, they can hold one item while inside their pokeballs. But they're usually small things like berries or amulet coins. Usually there to help them during battles.

So is that what you tame them for?

Battles? No. People have various reasons to catch pokemon in my world. Some to win beauty competitions or the title of pokemon champion, some for research and some just do it because they wanted a friend.

Oh, I see.

[He looks ahead. The way gets a little narrow because of the cliffside jutting out towards the sand, pinching it between the sea, but it's still clear enough to cross.]

So what's your reason?

Research.

Well it started out as research. I was helping an old family friend catalogue the different pokemon in my region. Then I kind of ended up having my own journey and winning the pokemon league. I've been champion ever since.

[She slows down her pace. Having to watch her step since she was, you know, in high heels.]

Heh, that's interesting. -oh, be careful over here, sand's a little loose. Tide's low.

[That warning may have been a little too late as she trips over some sand and falls to her knees. It was a quick motion and took her a few seconds to process it before laughing from embarrassment. Ok so MAYBE wearing heels on the beach was a bad idea.]

[Whoops. Well, she's obviously no a real magic user either. Sand's a walk in the park for them.

Gaius steps over, holding out a hand.]

You okay?

[Well she never said she was a magic user, now did she? She'll just go ahead and take off her shoes before taking his hand and getting up.]

Clearly I'm no match for loose sand.

Sand's pesky business. It'll trip you up, drag you down and get all over the place.

So true, so very true.

[She dusts herself off only to have Garchomp finish for her. Not all that happy that she wasn't able to save her master from tripping.]

So is the boat far from here?

Not too much farther. We're right at the end of the docks there- you might be able to catch a glimpse of the ship from here. It's the one with the bright green shell painted on the side there.

Bright...green...shell...

[Now you had her curious. Looking around at the different ships. A bright green shell was supposed to stick out right? And why a bright green shell anyway?]

And what's the crew like? I mean, what am I supposed to expect when I get there?

Heh, it's an interesting mix. I'll have to confess that most of 'em are teenagers, but they're pretty capable. One of 'ems got a dragon and the other four are, well, turtles. Then there's me and Jingles- who claims to be a pirate so he's pretty much the one with the most sea experience out of the group of us.

A dragon huh? I hope my pokemon could get along with it. I know I'd love to meet another dragon that wasn't mine.

[Garchomp scoffs.]

And I don't teens, I've worked with a lot of teens back home. But um...what are turtles? And Jingles?

[He grins a bit at Garchomp. Uh-oh, hope there won't be any trouble.]

...wait, seriously? Turtles, these reptile-ly creatures with shells on their backs- usually walk around on all fours but in this case they're human-sized and bipedal.

And Jingles, he's human, about our age.

Oh! Kind of like a blastoise, cool. Though I doubt they'd have cannons on their backs like the ones back home.

As for this Jingles guy, he sounds pretty interesting. Now I'm curious to see if he's a real a pirate or not.

Cannons on their backs? Huh, if they did, it might've made a little difference against those Navy guys... They can fight pretty well without, though.

I've never sailed with any pirates before, but Jingles isn't bad for all he claims to be one.
