INTRO LOG: APRIL 2014
Have an intro log for the month of April!
Who: Any and all new characters, as well as anyone hanging out on or around Isla Empieza!
Where: Near the fountain in the town center.
When: New characters will arrive around April 9th! The log is good for as long as you need it.
What: You've just been dropped on your head in a weird new world. Time to figure out what the heck is going on!
Status: VERY OPEN.
The day begins gray and drizzly, the miserable sort of rain that just makes everything muddy and unpleasant. Just the luck of the locals of Isla Empieza that these April showers bring more outsiders instead of May flowers. As the day goes by, the rain gets heavier and the locals get surlier. Lucky for you you have that message in your journals telling you to get moving and find a crew, huh?
Feel free to throw your characters here if you need a place for them to get situated and start figuring things out! Start new threads, tag into others, meet the people who might just become part of your crew! Older characters will be in and out, too, depending who is on the island at the current time.
HAVE FUN! And welcome to High Seas!

What for? Delaying? Yes. Likely. A stalling tactic. For a better look at him? To see if he was someone they were looking for? At least the voice is in English. If he's recognised, it will be the gallows, not a prison.
Still, the tension in his face and body are evident. He stares for a moment before he realises that this is a woman. Not that they can't be used to distract men while soldiers bear down upon them. He's seen that happen before.]
Ma'am.
[He offers a slight, polite bow, though he hasn't relaxed.]

Please--call me Codi. [Her smile is the very picture of innocence, and the outstretched hand is hopefully helping that image.] You look a bit lost. Can I help?
no subject
Thank you, ma'am. I'm quite fine.
[He has money, yes, but not much. Not enough to spend on a whore, even if he were given to such pursuits, which are favoured by his fellows, not him.
Still, that's no reason to be unkind to a woman trying to make a living. Especially in such inclement weather.]
Good evening to you.
no subject
Oh? Well a pleasant evening to you, too, hon. [She smirks, her eyes flutter and she folds her arms, coyly drawing away.] You're sure? I know you're new here, and you probably have a lot of questions. I have time.
no subject
I'm quite sure, ma'am.
[He has no doubt she has time. Time that's for sale. He can't afford to pay for it, even in a chaste manner. Best not to get involved with her sort at all. He's known too many men who never intended to make a habit but got pulled in.]
Thank you for your offer, but I can't stay. I've an engagement further in town.
[Not that he actually does, but it sounds best, and it's a good excuse to be able to offer a bit of a bow again, turn, and head for what look like inns and taverns to get out of the rain.]
no subject
Wait! [Codi's expression is more than a little indignant as she hurries forward, reaching for Hollom's shoulder to twist him back around.] Like hell you have an engagement! You just woke up here--I saw you wandering around earlier, completely lost. The only engagement you have is with the Committee.
[She points at the center of her chest.]
--And that's me.

A woman grabbed him. A whore grabbed him.
The reaction is swift. He turns with her pulling and lashes his hand out to smack her across the face. Not hard, not meant to injure her. Just something to make a loud sound, give a sharp pain, and make it clear he is not going to be trifled with.]
Don't touch me again.
[A group of men on a ship? That left him nowhere to go? That terrified him. They could easily overpower him. One woman? Didn't frighten him. And he wasn't keen on letting a whore drag him somewhere, potentially to a mugging or the like.]
no subject
[Then she becomes very angry.]
[With a scowl, her own hand comes up for an equally swift smack--the difference being the electricity running through her palm, sent unconsciously flowing by adrenaline and general annoyance. The effect, unless Hollom ducks (even if he intercepts, he'll get a nasty shock), would be something a bit more forceful than Codi's small hands would suggest.]

Plying her trade? He'd have left her be. But to grab a gentleman and then to strike him? God, she was lucky he wasn't his father.
It's that thought that makes him take a step back, free from her grasp, draw himself up, turn, and walk away.]
no subject
You're lucky that the Welcome Committee comes first, kid! [Angry fist shake in his direction inserted here.] See if I let you on my ship...
