[Apparently it was, because the second Ace stepped up to the railing like he was getting ready to jump in, all Asami could do was stare. She was well aware of his not being able to swim problem.
He wasn't really going to...was he?
Nope. He did. So here came Asami over as quickly as possible to pull him up to the surface and drag him closer to the shore so they were in more shallow water. She was frowning, boy]
[Ace burst out of the water with a grin, standing on the bottom without so much as going dead in the arm. He felt perfectly fine. Though, admittedly, he still wasn't sure if the chains would work forever. He waved his arms over his head, laughing at Asami despite her well-deserved concern.]
[Ace held up one hand, trying to shush Asami with one finger on her lips... as he slowly sank. His chest was gone. His neck was gone. He was down to his chin.]
[Ace let Asami lift him up, even if he could have probably forced himself up, anyway. Even if the effect of the sea water was gone, he still felt a bit tired.]
Ahhh, but I wanna try it again, later. I really missed bein' able to swim.

He wasn't really going to...was he?
Nope. He did. So here came Asami over as quickly as possible to pull him up to the surface and drag him closer to the shore so they were in more shallow water. She was frowning, boy]
You awake, Ace?
no subject
Weird, right?! It works!
no subject
I'm sorry but, what worked...?
[Because she would have sworn he almost drowned!]
no subject
The shackles I stole from the Navy! They turn off some of your powers and it looks like it worked for my fire fruit!
no subject
Really? So that means you can also swim, right?
[The fact that Ace wasn't turning into a human torch was telling enough. The shackles seemed to have taken care of that part at least]
no subject
[He stared at Asami, still smiling.]
Just make sure I don't drown when it stops.
no subject
[She pointed closer to the shore]
But you should probably stay in the shallow end just to be safe.
no subject
[He stared at Asami, not actually moving yet.]
'Cause, I'll drown.
no subject
[At least she hoped she wouldn't]
Just don't go too far.
no subject
[He paused, staring down at the water.]
...Feels really weird bein' this deep again.
no subject
When was the last time you were?
no subject
[Ace's eyes just sort of began to get hazy.]
no subject
[But clearly she was wrong. Oh, and up went her hands as she tread a couple inches closer in Ace's direction]
Sorry.
no subject
[Not really, but it was for him. Ace had a volatile attitude and that matched his fruit pretty clearly.
He wasn't entirely collapsed yet, but he was getting there.]
It's, y'know... like breathin'. The only hindrance is if... you're not really clever... [And then, Ace was just kind of sinking.]
no subject
[So you're kind of sinking there, pal]
no subject
...Ok, now you can save m--
[He was cut off as his head went underneath.]
1/3
2/3
no subject
So...he's still alive, right?]
no subject
He was dumb enough to hold his breath, anyway.
Looking up at Asami from the sand, he grinned.]
That was pretty worth it!
no subject
You got to be in the water for a little bit, but I think now would be a good time to stay on the shore.
no subject
Ahhh, but I wanna try it again, later. I really missed bein' able to swim.
no subject
Don't you have anything on the ship you can use? Like a lifesaver or inflatable bands you can put around your arms?
no subject
I'll get weak if I use them and sink anyway.
