[Ace stooped down low, set down his barrels and then just sort of... reaches over to eat a handful of the berries Vyse had gathered.]

Mmrrph? [He swallowed after a brief set of chews.]

Oh, gettin' water.

[That explained the barrels, at least. Vyse huffs when Ace steals the berries, but at least half of what's there is going into the communal food stores anyway, so he doesn't do anything else besides that.]

Should I take one of those barrels? Or go get another one?

[Ace's lips were tinted blue and red from the berries.]

Ah, you can take one. I'll get the other two. I saw a waterfall further North, so we're goin' there. It's gotta be cleaner there.

Got it. Let me just put this somewhere first. [His stash of berries. Not that he thinks anything will eat them, he doesn't want them to get scattered where he has to collect them all again.]

This is a pretty nice island.

[Ace was tempted to reach over for more berries, but the way Vyse looked, it was clear he would have to do a little cajoling first.]

I hate it. This island's terrible.

Howso? I wouldn't want to stay here for a long time, but it's a nice place to stop for a while.

[Nice, peaceful, with an apparent abundance of food and sort-of shelter.]

[There wasn't any complexity to Ace's line of thinking.]

It's trying to tell me to be peaceful and nice and I think that's weak.

I don't take commands from anybody.

Nothing wrong with being peaceful or nice...not all the time, but it's not really a weakness.

[Although he thinks being entirely pacifistic is something of a weakness, and that's where he draws the line at 'nice'.]

You could uh...take it as suggestions instead of commands?

[The face he made in return to that suggestion was definitely not one of approval.]

It's weak if I act nice or peaceful because someone tells me. Your captain isn't so easily convinced, damn it!

I'm not going to make you, I swear. Let's...uh, let's go get the water you wanted to get and get you back to the ship...maybe?

[The last bit is said as he goes to busy himself with his gathering cloth up, grabbing a handful of berries out of it before loosely twisting it shut with the other hand.]
