The bird, flapping away with a measure of fatigue and wariness about it, didn't look back at Ace. It lost its message and had to escape from its owner to avoid being punished, but otherwise it wasn't distraught. Really, it was dodging a bullet since Ace opted not to eat it.
Ace, snickering cruelly as he opened up the note, looked to Nami when she just sort of hovered over.
"Ahhh, this? I dunno. Lemme read it and see what's in it..."
After awhile, Ace was blinking rapidly--until a sinister, ill-intentioned grin spread across his face.
Though Nami was not a mind reader, she didn't need to be in order to tell that Ace was already up to something. The look on his face said it all, honestly. She wanted to see what was making him react that way, and moved to look over his shoulder.
That grin said nothing good. He was enjoying what he was reading, clearly. Men getting promotions for successfully driving off and defeating the Spades Crew and a number of other pirate crews. It was a slap in a face to them, but at the same time, it was also an immense indication that they were going to pile together in a small area, making an attack all the easier to initiate.
He couldn't have had a plan handed to him any clearer.
With the revelation that it was a party and that grin that never left Ace's face, she had a pretty good inclination that her captain was up to no good. "And a pretty big one, it looks like. They must be feeling pretty good about themselves." Nami wasn't normally one for revenge, but for these guys...
She took the invitation and purposely combed over the details. It would've been upsetting to know of the celebration that was going to be held, but instead her thoughts were centered around...
"A masquerade party?" Nami repeated. "I'm not sure what's supposed to happen on one of those." It was her first time hearing of such an event. Though judging by the name, she figured that... "Does everyone wear a mask or something?
