*The sound of the panpipes was different to the other sounds of the forest. Intrigued, Selphie follows the tune until she sees Thatch propped up against a try. Smiling, but not wanting to interrupt, she says nothing but walks on over to sit in front of him as a captive audience*

[despite his relative discomfort of the place, Selphie looks pleased enough, so he changes the tune, gliding into something more upbeat and fast, like the trilling of a bird. It's almost phoenix, not that he thinks she'll understand it]

*Selphie smiles at the change, and her head nods gently along to the upbeat rhythm. She drums her fingers lightly on her knees too, watching and listening. While she might not understand, Selphie does recognise something phoenix-like in the sounds he makes*

[the song draws to a close and he smiles, letting it hang in the air before leaning back]

You seem to be having a good time, Miss Selphie.

*She's still smiling, and nodding her head enthusiastically*

I am! I feel so nice and at peace here. And then there's music too! I never knew you were so talented, Thatch.

[that's how it gets you, he wants to say. But doesn't. Instead he keeps the smile on] It's nothing. Just a pan pipe. You could probably learn yourself easy enough.

[holds it out] Care to try?

Hmm...I tried the flute before. But I think I like strings better.

*Still, that doesn't stop her from taking them to try. She sits cross legged in front of them, then puts on her concentrating face, trying to blow to make a decent sound*

[he watches, somewhat amused. The noises she makes are kind of shrill but it takes practice so he'll just indulge her with a smile as he watches her attempt]

I'd like to hear you play. Music is essential to piracy, you know.

*Selphie continues to try to get a tune out of the instrument, but winces when she hits an especially high note, and hands it back to Thatch*

Well, I don't have a flute, but I do like to play my guitar a lot. I'll play for ya any time!

A guitar eh?

[it sends a kind of pang through him but he smiles] It's been a long time since someone played one for me.

Uh huh! Well, next time we're on the ship, I'll grab my guitar and I'll play for ya. I can sing too, if you like.

*She smiles and thinks about her answer as she leans back and looks up at the sky*

Let's see... a bit of everything, really. Slow stuff, sad stuff, happy stuff, pop stuff, rock stuff, ballads, random things that pop into my head. Anything you like!

[He wasn't even sure what pop stuff were, but he also didn't particularly care much.]

Well, Miss Selphie, I'll leave you to it. For now I have some inventory to sort through. [the place was starting to get at him again. Wrapping around him, trying to pull him down. There was no point in staying just to get irritated so up he went]

Anything in particular you'd like to have onboard in terms of fruit or meat, make sure it gets logged, aye?

Well, it's a good thing to play an instrument in between training and wars. And music keeps up moral when we're on missions!

*Selphie nods at him and begins to stand up, brushing off any grass from her legs*
