[Oh, treasure? Yes, Luffy, find the treasure. Meanwhile, Zoro swivels his stool around to face the growing throng of people whose food has disappeared into his captain's gut. He sets a hand on the topmost of the three swords in wordless threat.]

There a reason we should bother taking such small fries seriously?

[Yep. Insulting them is the way to go.]

[Luffy lets Zoro handle it and leans on the counter, watching as the lady gestures at a map]

[the men, however, are obviously incensed, and quite a few pull knives, though there are more guns, naturally, and one even has two small ones curled in either end of his mustache.

/Small fries?! You want to say that again, deadbeat? We'll put so many holes in you, you won't even be able to strain cabbage/

/Uh, boss,/ says another guy. /that doesn't actually make sense./

/Shut up! You two are deader than...you're just dead, okay?/

There is the sound of about fifty cocking hammers]

[Really. Mustache guns.

Zoro cocks his head slightly to see if Luffy's done yet. Bullets won't hurt him anyway, if any escape him.]

Gettin' kind of tired of this shit. Oi, captain - you want a piece of the action? Otherwise I kind of want all of it.

[two swords out and a bloodthirsty grin on his face]

[blinks and looks back at him]

No, I'm okay. [waves a hand and turns back to the barperson]

[/swords? Ha!/ says the outlaw. /You can't defeat us like that! We'll show you the name of fear!/

/Boss that doesn't make--/

/Shut up! Kill them!/

Shots rang out everywhere and one or two knives flipped through the air]

[Oh good. He wants to have some fun. And this is going to be fun.

The pair of swords come up in a flash, a whirl of flashes actually, blocking so many bullets all at once that it seems impossible. Any Zoro doesn't block he lets pass by with ease, so Luffy can rebound them without having to try. There's a bunch of pings of metal on metal, and then half the gunslingers are ducking and shrieking as their shots come right back at them.

Not to be outdone, Zoro leaps into the fray, excited to show these dumbasses why you can bring a sword to a gunfight. Well, three of them.]

[at some point, Luffy turns to watch, sipping his fresh glass of milk with the map shoved in his back pocket. Zoro's gotten a lot stronger and it's fun to watch him ping bullets off everything. One bullet hits Luffy between the eyes and pings back the way it came and another his shoulder. He can hear the barperson freaking out which is pretty funny and then the main guy shouts

/Big Eddie!/

And a guy from the back stands up with a super cool pistol that's as big as a cannon]

H'oooh! That's awesome!

[Where are these guys coming from? No sooner does Zoro knock down five of them, there's five more with reloaded guns. Geez. He knocks a few more sprawling and then pauses where he is. He has his back to the super-cool pistol Luffy is goggling at, but he can sense that there are more people over there, and follows Luffy's gaze to see what's so great.

...oho.

Without missing a beat, he draws Wadou Ichimonji and places it in his teeth before turning. This is gonna be easy.]

You should know not to challenge a pirate with a cannon.

[The guy naturally gets offended and shoots, but a bullet that size is nooooo problem. A little Rock Hunting, perhaps? Bits of giant shot go spiraling off into opposite sides of the room, landing in the middle of more clusters of gunslingers and exploding. Zoro unleashes a Pound Cannon of his own, which throws the big guy with the big gun through the far wall and out into the street beyond.]

[laughs and claps]

hahahaha Awesome, Zoro!

[and then someone takes a potshot at the hat, clipping the edge a little but doing no damage. Luffy punches him full in the face anyway, sending him crashing out another wall and into the street.

The boss guy staggers to his feet, holding out both pistols.

/Don't like that being hit, eh? I'll obliterate it off your head, you monster/

/Boss, that doesn't./

/Shut up!/ The boss snaps and shoots him in the face. The man falls.]

...That was your nakama.

[even if he was annoying...

/Who cares? He's a flapping mouth. Just like you'll be!/]

Luffy.

[Zoro knows this tune. He straightens up from where he's cleared most of the room around him, just off to the side of the guy everyone is calling 'boss.']

Take 'im down.

[It's lesson time. Lesson number forty-two, don't hurt your own people. Goes for gun gangs as much as it does pirates. Zoro will concentrate on neatly cutting away every last bit of support, though seeing their boss turn on one of their guys does sort of take some of the fight out of the rest, and he won't bother attacking anyone who drops a gun and backs away.]

No...

[Luffy hops off the barstool and makes his way across the room]

Why would I bother with someone so weak?

[the boss snarls and lifts his pistols and Luffy glares at him, meeting his eyes. The man shudders and drops the pistols with a clatter, falling back into the broken table.

Luffy kneels by the guy that was shot and sees that he's still alive, most of the blood coming from his cheek and jaw. Maybe he'll live, maybe he won't but...

The guy cringes back as he reaches down but Luffy takes his arm anyway, putting it over his shoulders.]

Let's go.

[there was a doctor's sign not far from here and they could put the man there for now. Weapons drop around the room, but no one offers to help as he supports the man out into the sunlight]

[Now that was impressive. Zoro silently sheathes his swords one at a time, confident that the fight is essentially over. And look at Luffy, starting to get a handle on his haki just a little bit.

This is why he is completely devoted to his captain.

He moves in a step behind Luffy, following but not interfering in his plan to take the man to a doctor. It's not such a heavy burden he can't bear it himself, after all.]

People are the same no matter where you go.

[it wasn't even so much haki as a promise that Luffy would shatter every tooth in his head if he pushed him further. Men like that understand those kind of looks.]

People are themselves everywhere. [Sometimes people that you fought one day helped you out the next. Like Buggy and the 3 guy and Bon-chan. Or even Duval. Maybe the boss guy would help someone, too, one day. Or maybe he would just be a jerk. But who could really tell?]

That too.

[more likely the peon they're helping, if he lives, might be the one turning tides elsewhere next. But who knows? The world is strange. Zoro's duty now is to keep an eye on their backs in case anyone was a real coward and tried to hit them from behind]

So did you get a good hint on some treasure?

[Luffy doesn't pay attention because if anyone does try to hit them from behind, Zoro will take care of it.]

Yeah. [he sees the doctor's sign and hammers on the door until the doctor opens it. He helps get the man on the doctor's shoulder before walking back onto the street and pulling out the map]

She said to go this way. [holds it up to Zoro]

[So straightforward. He leans down and peers at the map. This is going to end terribly, of course.]

That way, huh? What are all these dotted lines and stuff?

Directions. You follow them. [he turns the map one way. And then the other.] The treasure is where the x is.

[how could you tell which way the lines were going?]

[you are asking the wrong man]

Okay. So we just have to start out going that way and it'll lead us there.

["that way." Which way?]

Oh okay. [it sounds reasonable to him] Maps are pretty hard. They should have less lines on them.

I don't even know what half of those are pointing to.

[nor can he tell which way is up, let alone whether they're facing the right way. He just picks a direction and goes with it.

They're doomed.]
