How can I enjoy this? Most of the children are forgetting about us and most of the adults act as if they hadn't been in a ship with children up until now.
[If Thatch thought that Ikki was just shrunk in size now it's clear that's not the case.
He smiles, widely and noticeably -something that just doesn't happen with his adult self- at the comment about Marco.]
He's not cute. He's cool and awesome, even if he doesn't remember me. It's okay either way, him not knowing me doesn't stop me from learning from him to be a phoenix too.
no subject
It's an odd time, aye. But everything will work out. [hair ruffle] You'll be a great phoenix, Ikkun.]
no subject
Of course I will be. All I have to do is be like Marco, right? He's the best phoenix ever.
[NEVERMIND THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN A PHOENIX BEFORE.]
And I like that he can speak like this. And you and Leanne and Naesala. I always felt weird for being able to do it. Maybe it's because I will be a phoenix when I grow up?
no subject
Sounds about right. And Marco's an awesome phoenix, you should hear him warble.
[the most beautiful horrible sound you'll ever hear. He pushes off wherever he's leaning and stubs out the cigarette, folding his hands in his pockets]
Well then, chickadee, wanna cause some trouble?
no subject
Do you think he will show me if I ask him to?
[Because now he wants to hear it.
Ikki blinks at the question for a moment humming a bit.]
Sure, as long as it's not trouble to Ace. Or not too much at least.
[Because Ace is the captain and Ikki doesn't want to bother him. Even little Ikki is awfully loyal to Ace.]
What do we do?
no subject
Nah, Ace'll get a kick out of it. [or maybe anyway. Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.]
Let's set off some fireworks in the bathroom.
no subject
Anyway his eyes go wide and a wide smile forms on his lips at the plan.]
Fire!!
[Wait.]
-Works! Fireworks! That's awesome!! Let's do it, please!
[This kid here doesn't have a small tendency to like fire, no.]
no subject
You got it! [jerks at his own shoulder] Care for a ride?
no subject
Stare.
More staring.
His eyes shining with an excitement that can't be denied.
And then...]
Can I really?
[Okay so, Marco picked him up and gave him a ride and all. But that was quite unique and he definitively wouldn't dare to dream to get another offer ever from anyone!!]

no subject
Thank you, Thatch.
[He didn't mean for it to come out in avian, but it does because it's the way it shows how much this means for him.]
no subject
[Babbu birds even if they weren't birds quite yet. He can't resist them]
What's your favorite color?
no subject
[Fire colours except the last one which is Shun color.]
What's yours?
no subject
[his own colors, Marco's and Pops' respectively.]
We can make fireworks in those colors. ... I suppose you don't know how, do you?
no subject
[Or is there an actual color named that way? Ikki looks down at the question before he shakes his head.]
No, I don't. Sorry.
no subject
I don't know how to make them either but I have a book.
[wild grin]
Let's try not to blow ourselves up, aye?
no subject
[Because it has orange on it and he likes that color a lot. Ikki nods, seeing no problem in just learning to do them through a book.]
Okay! But even if we did so I wouldn't die from something like that, just so you know.
[He would, but Ikki is of the firm belief that nothing can kill him until he says so. And he's not saying "I want to die" anytime soon.]
Do we have all we need for them?
no subject
Won't die from something like that, eh?
[he drags Ikki down to give him a noogie, that doubles as a hug around his middle because
oh.
his.
Pops.
It's so adorable he can't--]
Alright then I'll be counting on you then!
I'm pretty sure we have everything! But if not we can probably swap things out.
[what was the worst that could happen]
no subject
So for a moment, a very brief moment, he tenses completely, waiting for the hit, for the kick, to be thrown down on the floor. But it never comes. Instead, he gets a noogie and what could be a hug. And... Is it really okay? Are things really still okay? Ikki's not going to question it so just after that brief second of terror pases he hugs Thatch's middle, basically clinging to him. He likes Thatch, he can speak bird language and he wants to do something with Ikki, he even lets him sit on his shoulder. He doesn't want this to be a lie or a trick or a trap.]
I'll do my best. And that's okay, I'm sure nothing bad will happen even if we swap things out.
[So long as Thatch doesn't get angry with him and does what all adults like to do, nothing that could possibly happen when making the fireworks will be bad enough in Ikki's opinion.]
no subject
Don't worry, Ikkun. We're brothers. That means you're mine, yoi. There's nothing to worry about.
no subject
Maybe he's weak, because he allows himself to like Thatch and Marco and Ace and Namur, he allows himself to love this crew. And that opens a weakness if they betray him. But he can't help it and he really wants to trust them. Blue eyes stare at Thatch as if he spoke in a language he can't understand for a moment, before the kid dares to reply.]
Really? There's nothing to worry about?
And I'm yours? So you're my big brother? Is it okay if I have a little bit of you too? Like a hair?
[Just a tiny little bit, because he doesn't dare to want more from anyone except Shun. He doesn't deserve it if he's not strong enough to protect it.]
no subject
Aye. But it's very important, you understand. I'll give you some hair now-- but in a week, if you're still committed, ask again.
[since the curse will have worn off by then. At least he hopes so]
no subject
Okay. I'll ask again in a week. And then in a month if you want, until you're convinced that I'm committed and serious!
