[He smiles a little more, because well it's good news and he's still five, sort of. He moves to sit on the chair instead of standing at the counter, watching her.]

Has everything been okay? I know I scared you when you came to the ship. If I was doing something, you'd tell me right?

Kid, you didn't scare me. Nobody scares me. Not anymore.

[Folding her arms across her chest, she looks his little five year old self up and down.]

I said before I don't trust vampires. That's all it ever was. If I was afraid of you, I wouldn't have sailed with the Spades, and if you tried anything I'd have turned you inside out.

That's changed. You're alright. A little weird, kinda morbid, but you're alright. I trust you about as far as I trust most people.

[The vampires terrify him and he's not really afraid to say it. They're scary creatures.]

Weird I can deal with. People have always thought I was weird. I didn't used to be morbid though.

[He chews on his lower lip thoughtfully.]

I dunno if it's bravery or stupidity. Either way, I'm not really afraid of most things anymore. It's so easy to just make them explode.

[She chuckles and gives him a long, steady look.]

And no offense, if you try and harm me or anyone on this boat, I won't be asking permission. I like you, you're an alright kid, but I've got no qualms about stopping anyone. Even someone I love, if such a thing were even possible.

I suppose that's fair. I hated being a kid when I was a kid so this better be temporary.

[She snaps her fingers and reaches for a ladle.]

[He holds out his hands for the ladle.]

I wonder what it will taste like. We have stews at home but I bet this is different.

[She offers it over. It should be pretty spicy, really. She's fond of pepper.]

[He blows on it to cool it a bit and takes a little bite. It's definitely spicy on his little tongue. He takes a breath before finishing the rest of the spoonful.]

Spicy. Spicy but good. I wish I knew how to cook food. I could share the food from home with you guys.
