[Gurbling happily at the scratches, the dragon then glances back at Hiccup. It seems he's expected to verify something, so he gives a snort.]

The Dragons I know don't have wings. But from what I understand birds have to worry about their wings and tails for flight. So that makes sense.

[Wan continued his scratching because why not?]

What happened to his tail? It wasn't always like that.

[summing_it_up]

[There's a pause as Hiccup's expression goes from the casual smile to a more lopsided, awkward one. Don't mind him looking away and scratches the back of his head.]



Uh. Well...you see, one time not too long ago, I may have got it in my head to try my hand at getting a dragon to boost my status in my tribe. Whiiich led to actually. Hitting. Toothless.

[He then puts up both of his hands.]

–But that was during the time when dragons were still our enemies!

[Usually when he's being petted it isn't in midair, but just so long as Wan doesn't try scratching him under his jaw, they should be fine, right? Right.

Toothless glances out of the corner of his eye at Hiccup, then snorts a little. Oh, this story. The tones are familiar, so he can only imagine that the boy is relating when he was a stupid.]

[raavashing]

[So Hiccup made a mistake. And then fixed it as best he could. Wan's smile didn't waver.]

I completely understand. I'm glad you and Toothless were able to be friends afterwards. Sometimes that's hard to achieve.

[Wan's hand idly wandered below Toothless' chin without thinking about it.

Oops?]

[Yes, he is a stupid. But he is a good-hearted stupid nerdboy.]

Right? Things could've turned out different– ??

[Wait, Wan, what are you oh CRAP]

–Oh no–

[It's like hitting a switch. The dragon's eyes roll upward, his wings ceasing in mid-beat. Gravity eagerly grasps to drag them spiraling down.]

[raavashing]

[Wan's jaw dropped down in horror at the chaos he had wrought. His own hand being dragged down for a few feet, disrupting his own cloudwalk and sending him plummeting, too.

A loud yell escaped him before he managed to get himself turned around in mid-air and send a strong gust of wind directly upward to catch them all and keep them aloft. Then a mini-tornado formed in mid-air to hold them there while Toothless got his senses back.]

[THiS IS HOW THEY WERE GOING TO DIE??? VERY NICE.

With no control on the unconscious Night Fury, Hiccup screams, grabbing onto the grip of the saddle even though it does NOTHING for their predicament. And Wan is being dragged down with them.

He can see how the story goes: three members of the HazMat crew die due to an unfortunate placement of Dragon Sleeper Hold. They leave their imprints forever on Breakneck Cay as a warning for all sailors far and wide to come across. Let there be a lesson for all of you: never scratch under a dragon's chin.

BUT WAIT. The mini-tornado interrupts his screaming, letting him breathe as he looks confused. Although safe (?), he may still be very attached to the saddle.]

...Oh gods, I can feel my stomach in my throat. And I should be use to that!

[It's a good thing that the dragon seems almost oblivious to all the ensuing, or...not, considering that it would probably be helpful if he carried his own weight. Haha, what a story you guys'll have to tell your friends!

Yeah, give him a moment, at least the sudden drop kind of helps to get him back to his senses a little quicker, so shaking his head, Toothless snorts in surprise as he finds that they're being suspended by nothing more than air.]

Sorry.

[Wan said again, breathing heavily as he spun his arms to keep the tornado going while he slowly started to lower them to the ground.]

I forgot he did that. I'll have us on the ground in a minute.

[summing_it_up]

[Hiccup breathes, lips puttering. He slowly lifts his head up as he pats Toothless' sides – reassurance for both him and the dragon that they'll be all right.]

Y-yeah, okay– man, I knew I should've said something if you already knew about that!

[The dragon at least seems to calm a little, but he extends his wings again to see if he can help a little by catching the wind.]

[raavashing]

[Wan didn't stop his airbending just because Toothless spread his wings. Hiccup had been clear that the dragon needed the tail fin adjusted to fly properly. So while Toothless could definitely catch some air, Wan was going to continue to be careful with their descent.

It remained slow, steady. The mini-tornado they rode at the top of never wavering.]

[summing_it_up]

[The boy's nerves have lessened enough for him to get back into pilot mode. He takes another breath, in and out, hastily checking everything.]

Okay, okay. Here we go.

[The gear shifts, letting the tailfin fan out for Toothless.]

[The dragon felt the lift even out now that he had his tail to help steady them, and he gwarfed at Wan, perhaps to tell him they had it under control.

He doesn't know how long the unusual winds will keep up, but if Wan appears tired from it, Toothless is ready to snatch him up and take them down the rest of the way.]

[raavashing]

[When Toothless made the noise at him, Wan figured it meant that he was ready to fly.

Three quick circles of his arms had the tornado leaving the space under Toothless and moving to extend to the ground as the top wrapped around Wan's lower body. It held him up, but it was a lot of power. He shifted his own focus to lowering himself to the ground before he exhausted himself.

Which... didn't quite happen. About forty feet up he could no longer grasp the power of the element and the tornado wavered in warning before dropping out from under him entirely. Wan's eyes rolling up in his head as he started to pass out from the over-use.]

[summing_it_up]

[See? Everything is going smoothly again, yay!

Except for the fact that Wan has just fainted.]

Wan!! Toothless!

[The Night Fury has the better senses here, but Hiccup shifts gears simultaneously.]

[The winds are starting to lessen, and it doesn't look good for Wan. The situation is altogether too familiar.

Toothless immediately tucks his wings in to make that dive so he could catch the falling man before he landed horribly.]

[raavashing]

[Wan fought to stay conscious, but it was a fight he was loosing. The last thing he saw was Toothless and Hicccup diving toward him as the air rushed past his ears.]

[summing_it_up]

[Seeing the drop from this perspective only reminds him of what he went through. It doesn't make him feel any better.

Down he and Toothless go, speeding up in their descent. They may even pass Wan at this point; being too close to the ground is a risk for flying and falling, but this is the only way he can maneuver the catch.]

Hold on...!

[At this stage, he steadies the flight path again, flying Toothless at the man.]

–Get him, bud!!

[Toothless grunts, sweeping sharply upwards at Hiccup's call, adjusting his tail and wings as they pull up abruptly from their dive. Once they come within range of Wan, he's going to carefully snatch the man up with his stubby claws so that they can carry him safely to land.]

[raavashing]

[Wan would be very grateful to know that Toothless was so careful with him. When he wakes up in a couple hours, safe and alive, he'll definitely try to thank the Dragon anyway he can.

[Concern is heard in Hiccup's voice as he hovers over Wan, not caring if the sand he walks through on his knees gets all over the place.]

You okay? Do you need anything? Water? Food??

[Toothless is nearby, peering anxiously at the man, glancing between him and Hiccup.]
