Hazmats vs Shepherds
Who: Hazmat crew, Shepherds of racing justice, and the Red Eyes (NPC crew)
Where: at sea, and then on Safario Island
When: 7/6 through 7/31 ALL MONTH, ALL RACE
What: the entirety of the racing shenanigans for these two crews plus their NPC foes. First sailing to Safario, then to Ebony & Ivory, and then a final climactic showdown on Dnalsi.
Warnings: let me know if any besides shounen violence
Style: anything you want
Status: closed to members of Hazmat and Shepherd crews
Considering that the Friend Ship set out safely and securely after the race's start, the U.S.S. Booyakasha II had a bit of a head start at first, but between Scurvey Dog's delightful gift of chickens and the ensuing vegetable rain, they slowed down after the first day. Will it be for long, considering they have an Avatar on board? Let's find out!
The first token is located on Safario, in the East, a place of bizarre animals and sandy beaches and not a hell of a lot else. Who will have to fight who in order to safely land their ships and find the jerk with the token clue? Can they brave the Red Eyes with their poisoned sabers as well as vicious winged bears? The Shepherds take it, but can they keep it?
From there it's on to the strange island of Ebony & Ivory, where the island itself may not look dangerous but the culture has surprises in store for them. There's a week of strange rainbows and anglerfish to battle on the way to it.
The final stop is the cloud island Dnalsi, where everything is upside down and the laws of physics don't apply. What kind of place is this for a final battle, and who's going to end up with all the tokens? What if it's the Red Eye crew?
[ooc: information on our adversaries and route is here. Make your own starter threads for any time/location during the entirety of the race: Safario, E&I, Dnalsi, or any of the strange phenomenon and sailing times in between.]

Huh. You're a risk-taker. No offense, but your dad sounds pretty strict.
[He shrugs, gesturing lightly.]
An arrangement for another tail fin. To let him fly on his own.

None taken. My father is the King of the seas, so... yes, he's a bit strict. He has no trust in humans, but he hasn't seen humans like I have. You're all absolutely fantastic.
[yes, sorry, she's a bit enthusiastic about these things. But oh, Toothless's fin. She glanced down at her own, the tail swishing in the water a bit.]
Can he not fly with the fin he has?
no subject
Ugh, parental authority figure and trust issues. I'm all too familiar with that. [Another shrug.] But hey, we do have our quirks. I'm still trying to get over the fact that I'm talking to a real mermaid...
[Again his mouth twists between a smile and a frown, nodding and shaking his head exuberantly. This does make it a bit more confusing.]
Well, he can, but, uh, he sort of...can't. See, Toothless is missing one side of the fin, and the fin's used for steering. If he was going to try flying right now, he can't fly without my help.

[She leaned in on the rock, watching him and peeking off to watch for what Toothless might be doing as well.]
I see. So it's a bit like merfolk who lose a fin as well. It makes it harder to swim. He must trust you a lot to let you help him fly. [Awww, it's kind of sweet]

[His arms drop back down to his sides.]
Y-yeah. Flying, swimming – I guess tails in general have a lot to do with motion. And...ah...he does! So much.
[Agreeing to disregard the reasons behind the trust. Nailed it.]

[she sighed though, looking up at him again and smiling] Tails are very helpful in some things. Toothless seems almost like a brother to you. He reminds me of my friend Flounder.

Maybe later. Maybe. Anyone can change. It just takes some time.
[He also takes a moment to look at the Night Fury, brow lifting.]
Yeah? I dunno, I...never thought of it that way. Not consciously, anyway.
