What: VACATION. They've had a rough summer so it's time for some downtime. There are water parks, beaches, and an obligatory onsen, so mix and mingle with the super-happy (and young and pretty) locals and have some fun!

[Gan Ning promised his ragtag crew a party, and by god, they were going to have a party. It might have been worth it to hold on Isla Empieza, to mingle with other crews there, but there wasn't much going on there to stick around for. He heard from someone in the harbor about this island and decided it would make a great place for a party.

Somewhere along the way Raphael disappeared, sadly, but the rest of them continued on. They had already put off partying for too many reasons - a poor showing in the race, other crewmates disappearing, Cynthia's rescue from the clutches of giant spiders, and so on. No more. This time, they were just going to put down anchor, hang out on the beach, make some ice cream, and have a good time. Besides, with Tsuzuki joining the crew, they had to show him that they knew how to stick together, right?

"Ohhhh..." None of the warriors he'd met in Orochi's realm were from that far north, so Gan Ning had never heard of it. But it sounded cool, and he nodded in interest. "Well, if they got gambling and drinks, I'm all over that."

He leaned in, then, grinning broadly. "Wouldn't say no to a couple of those nice ladies who saw us in joinin' us, too, eh?"

"They just might have both! Never know," the guardian replied with a smile. Gan Ning's face made his day. He liked making people smile. This sounded like it could be fun... then the guy had to mentioned the ladies. His face went red.

"Ahahaha... you really think so...?" Oh, clearly he had no idea how to deal with ladies.

"Why not?"

The blush was pretty obvious, so of course Gan Ning had to call attention to it and make it worse. "What's the matter, you shy or somethin'?" He threw back his head and laughed, stretching his arms back out on the rim of the bath as if to display all his tattoos. Like there was anyone else in there to admire them or anything.

"Ah... well... maybe shy isn't the word I would use," Tsuzuki gave a light laugh as he tried to explain himself. The tattoos didn't bother the shinigami at all. After seeing the curse on the covered his partner's body, tattoos seemed so tame to him.

"I guess I don't really have the best experience with attaching people my way unless I'm making an idiot out of myself. I'm sure you have much better luck of it though, Gan Ning. I mean, what's not to like?"

Ning smirked. "Eh, I get around." Sometimes it took money, but he didn't care. "Maybe you just need a sidekick to help you out. You know, talk up your good points, encourage a lady to bring a friend to get to know you, such and so forth."

Yep, a wingman. And who'd make a great wingman? That's right...

All the mobile typos up there made me cringe. I am so sorry...

"Does that really work? Maybe that's why I noticed those guys are the bar come in pairs..." He tapped his chin thoughtfully. He'd never had a friend to talk up his good points before. Most people could go on for hours about his flaws though...

"I'm not sure there's much to highlight about me. I mean, I've been told my body is nice, but passed that, I'm just a booze hound..." ... so said Tatsumi, whose opinion was pretty objective as far as he could tell. "What are ladies looking for in good points anyway? Maybe that's what I should be asking?"

He heard the magic word, as far as Ning was concerned. "Oh yeah, a big drinker too, huh? Then you and me oughta just go out drinkin' and see what happens! I've been doin' my best to sample the best liquor on every island we visit, we can see what passes for good booze on a beach island."

"Oh, I love a good drink! The only way to find the best liquor is to hop all the bars though. Do we have that kind of money, Gan Ning?" Tsuzuki gave the captain an awe struck expression. Offer him booze and watch his reason fly out the window...

"I would totally get behind that if we could..."

"Do we have that kind of money..."

Ning tossed his head back for a loud laugh. "'Course we do! I mean, it may not look like it, with the ship we got, but we're pretty well-off. Cynthia's the best treasure-hunter around, so we're kinda rollin' in it. Plus..."

He looked around, not that there were any women in the bath let alone that particular one, and then leaned in to share a secret. "She gave me this thing the first time we came into money, a bell covered in diamonds. I got no use for it, though, so I been pryin' diamonds off and sellin' 'em anytime I want drinkin' money and she won't give me an allowance for it."

"A diamond covered bell...? That would have us covered for ages...!" Since the captain was being stealthy, the shinigami was trying to be quiet, but diamonds would cover booze for a good while. Boy, he wished his luck was this good back home...

"How many bars have you hit up here yet, Captain? This sounds like a fun endeavor for each island. Hm-hm!"

Gan Ning settled back again. "Here on this island? I haven't even gotten started yet. But this world, eh...I went on a bit of a bender on Deesuko Ballia. Lost about three, four days." It hadn't been for fun, though, so Ning rubbed his chin, thinking. "Dermaevern was pretty good, too. They had a giant party on Port Chance before the race, didn't mind that one bit."

He could empathize on the loss of time drinking could do to a guy... and his boss had made him work through it. Not fun memories at all...

"Oh, wow," Tsuzuki looked so impressed by all the excitement. Maybe this place wouldn't be so bad. Between the laid back crew he had found and the opportunities it had to offer, he might get wrapped up enough to forget his anxiety over back home. That would be nice. "Sounds like a lot of stories to be made in the future. Let me know when you want to hit up the bar scene here. I can't imagine a water park island not having amazing bars and drinks."

"Depends on how late we wanna hang out here and soak," Xingba mused. "If it ain't too late, we can probably make a first run tonight. Check things out, yanno?"

But he was rather enjoying the bath, so he was in no hurry to jump on out and get dressed, even for booze. If not that night, they would have plenty of time in the coming days to go bar-hopping.

"It was a long trip here, and you guys have been through some rough seas in the past few weeks, I heard. For once, I'll be an old man and soak my bones. Hm-hm!" He slumped backward in the bath, following his hand together on his chest with a sigh.

"I'm all for drinks later though, Captain."

"Later, then." Gan Ning snorted a bit. "Old man? Just how old are you? Ya don't look too much older than me."

Though, if Tsuzuki was anywhere near the same age as Lu Meng, he wouldn't have a problem teasing him just the same.

"Hm!" Tsuzuki looked at the man with one eye open with a smirk. Oh, wasn't that an odd topic. He doubted the captain would hold it against him, but it was still difficult to explain...

"If I told you, you'd never believe me. Looks aren't always what they seem, especially where I live back home."

"That so?" Ning shook his head. "Suit yourself, but I've been all over, I've seen a thing or two. Maybe I'd believe more than you think."

"Well... have you heard of Purgatory?" Just a stab in the dark with that question. It sounded vague enough to leave out the Ministry for now. He could be honest about where he was from and why at 98 he still liked 26. That wouldn't jinx anyone, right?

"...nope." Gan Ning put his head to the side to think. The beliefs common among his fellow Han did have the heavenly bureaucracy, complete with providing for and paying off ghosts so they wouldn't return, but he didn't know it by that name. Nope, didn't sound familiar. "Some place you live, back home?"

"It's one name for it," he shifted around in the water as he groaned. "Some call it Limbo or the Afterlife. Where I'm from, we call it Meifu, and time pretty much stands still there." He didn't sound too happy about it, but what could he do? He was technically dead... just with a new body courtesy of the Judge of the Dead.

"The afterlife?!" Gan Ning sat up sharply, sloshing water around the bath. "Does that mean you're a...ghost?"

There was a time when he would have smirked at any peasants claiming that ghosts were troubling them, making them sick or unlucky. Not now, not after being in Orochi's realm and seeing gods in the flesh. A real ghost...how should he take that?

Tsuzuki looked at the man. Was that really what people looked like when they saw a ghost? Blinking a few times, he made a blank face...

"Technically, I have a body," he lowered his voice a bit, "but I have to shift energy to be physical. It's not hard after all the time I've had to practice. It's like breathing now. I promise I don't haunt people though."

True, he could see Tsuzuki rather well, he wasn't invisible or anything. But Gan Ning had to be sure. He glided through the water to poke at the man's arm just to be sure. Yep, nice and solid.

"Huh. So...is it true, then? If ya don't have the right papers and passage, you don't get into the Jade Heaven and get stuck down here?"

Far from scared, he was curious. Pirates weren't as superstitious as some, outside of their healthy respect for the gods controlling the waters.

"Um..." Crap! He gaped at the thought of how things could go wrong from here. Every time he came out about either being a shinigami or being with the Ministry of Hades someone usually died, a very not nice death, and he was trying to avoid doing that at all costs ever again. Still, if he continued to make this panicked face up at the guy, it might be obvious that he was hiding something. Dodge, Asato! Dodge the Ministry topic, man!

"You mean stuck in the World of the Living... or here-here?" He even added the pointed fingers at the bath water for added awkwardness...

"World of the Living, I guess." Funny, his people called it that, too. "Here, there, anywhere. I never met an actual ghost, I didn't think they really could come back."
