Into the storm
Who: Hazardous Materials with special guest star Draco Malfoy
Where: the ship, and then Eternal Bliss (oh joy)
When: November 1-5 at sea, 6-? on land
What: sailing log, and then shenanigans on wedding island
Warnings: let me know if there are any
Style: as you please
Status: closed to "who"
[As soon as the sun did not rise on the 1st, like others had suggested it would, Gan Ning wanted off Isla Empieza. He put out the call to his crew - get on the ship, leave no man behind. Or woman, Cynthia.
The storm hit while they were two days out from the island. It would take all hands on deck to keep the Nightfury from capsizing, good thing they have a couple of solid dragons to keep things in check. Just watch out for Gaius and his fiery pendant! By the time the storm blows out in the wee hours on the 4th, the charts put them drifting near to Eternal Bliss. Are the residents still pissed at pirates for what Kodachi did? Who cares, they need to land to make repairs. And maybe score some treasure, if anyone wants to go through the marriage requirement.

[But can you really blame him...]
Gan Ning. [That sounds Asian which, in Draco's experience, means he has no idea what to call him. Is Gan his family name, or is Ning?] And which part of that do you prefer to go by?
no subject
[eyeballing Draco a little. Not many people around here have care that much about using proper names with him. Iiiiinteresting.]
I ain't no lord of Wu or nothin', just a general in the army. I don't do formality too much.
no subject
It's not being formal, I just didn't know what to call you. In my world, some countries do that whole thing where they say the family name first. It sounded like that might be the case for you.
[But okay, Ning it is.]
You're a general? That's rather impressive. No wonder you're the captain. How long have you been in this world?
no subject
Smarter'n most, aren'tcha? Yeah, technically Gan is my clan name, but it doesn't matter too much.
Let's see...it's autumn now, I came in the spring. Eight or nine months, somethin' like that. [he gets all puffed up, preening for compliments] But I'm the captain here because I was a pirate captain before I was a general. Experience gets ya everywhere.
no subject
Pirates aren't really a thing in my world anymore, so it's not something I'm at all experienced with. Aside from my time here, that is. It's been over a year for me.

[He props his hands on his hips, taking a look around.]
Your ship is nice. [As nice as they can be in this backwards world.] It's new, yes?

Well. That and it's Hazmat tradition.

[Said a bit skeptically, but he also looks amused.]
You snitch things regularly, then? Are you a crew of bandits rather than pirates?
no subject
Pirates are just bandits on the water, kid! Same thing. I been in this line of work a long time, and a habit's a habit.
'Sides, where d'ya think all the treasure comes from?
no subject
Yes, I suppose you're right. Pillaging and blundering and all that...
My crew doesn't have all that much treasure. Sometimes I just conjure up fake coins if I'm in a bind and need to purchase something. [SIGH.] Not a position I've ever been in before, let me tell you. I think Miss Margie would see right through it, though. So I haven't tried it with her.
no subject
Bad luck, eh? We must be takin' all the good stuff, we're on great terms with Margie and we got buttloads of treasure. Not a bad life for bein' so far from home.

[He gives a slight eye roll.]
They're a very serious lot.
no subject
Can't figure anything out if ya don't have a few adventures! Nah, I getcha. No wonder ya wanted to visit, have some fun.
no subject
[Though he looks a bit sheepish now.]
I've nothing against them, of course. That's been my home for over a year. But who can resist the temptation of dragons?
no subject
So have a good time. Just no makin' trouble, or I'll throw ya overboard.
no subject
Everyone is always threatening to toss me overboard, do you know that? Is that a pirate thing, as well?
[Jack Sparrow (Captain, thank you, he can hear it in his head even now) actually did once.]
no subject
[not really, he's just messing around.]
Can you think of a better threat when you're out at sea to keep everyone in line?
no subject
[Bright grin, and then he turns to go explore the rest of the ship.]
I'll be off, then.
