Into the storm
Who: Hazardous Materials with special guest star Draco Malfoy
Where: the ship, and then Eternal Bliss (oh joy)
When: November 1-5 at sea, 6-? on land
What: sailing log, and then shenanigans on wedding island
Warnings: let me know if there are any
Style: as you please
Status: closed to "who"
[As soon as the sun did not rise on the 1st, like others had suggested it would, Gan Ning wanted off Isla Empieza. He put out the call to his crew - get on the ship, leave no man behind. Or woman, Cynthia.
The storm hit while they were two days out from the island. It would take all hands on deck to keep the Nightfury from capsizing, good thing they have a couple of solid dragons to keep things in check. Just watch out for Gaius and his fiery pendant! By the time the storm blows out in the wee hours on the 4th, the charts put them drifting near to Eternal Bliss. Are the residents still pissed at pirates for what Kodachi did? Who cares, they need to land to make repairs. And maybe score some treasure, if anyone wants to go through the marriage requirement.
Date your posts and mingle away!]

Apologies, I should have worded that better, that was rude of me. I was referring to the fact that your upper body looks very human. We have merpeople in my world, too, you see? But, well, much like humans, they can all look vastly different. The colony that lives in the lake at my school all have gray skin and yellow eyes... Their faces are different, too.
no subject
You know other merfolk! Gray skin and yellow eyes? Why, that's amazing! I've never heard of anyone like that before. What are they like? What is it like where you are from? You must be the boy I heard about, who came to see Toothless? Oh!
[her hands covered her mouth and she blushed behind them.] Oh I'm sorry. That was a lot of questions. I ... should at least introduce myself. [look who's rude now, but shes so curious] My name's Ariel.
no subject
[He gestures at her.]
Like yourself.
[And then he turns that gesture into an offering for a handshake, holding his hand out toward her.]
I don't mind questions, as long as I have answers. [He quite enjoys talking about
himselfhis world, actually!] I'm Draco. Draco Malfoy. And yes, [grins] I came to see the dragons.
no subject
[oh! A handshake, she’s learned what those are with humans already. She pulled herself up closer, so she sat on her tail, bent as if legs were bent back under her. She took the hand and gave a shake of greeting, knowing now that she doesn't have to hold it for a long time! Look she learns!]
It’s a pleasure to meet you Draco Malfoy! Will you be staying long? What crew are you with? [she gave a soft giggle at asking more questions, and yeah she’s sorry but you said it was okay.]
Our Dragons are amazing. I’d never seen one before coming here!
no subject
[He settles back against the mast, glancing around the deck.]
I rather like this ship, though. Even if it is a bit like a zoo. And the dragons are brilliant. They're much bigger in my world, and dangerous, so I've never been close to one like you can do with these two.
[Then he looks back at her.]
Can you stay out of the water for very long? You must not be used to having to live on a ship.
no subject
[she rested her hand on her fin, towel gripped by fingers a moment longer.] Oh, it was interesting at first. I used to stay in a lifeboat filled with water. Wan, he was so kind, he built it up for me. But!... her fin was fading in some areas, flesh toned, like she was drying out and the color was going away. She took the towel and started to dry the tail fin as she spoke.] ...I picked up the most wonderful curse!
At least I think it’s great. We were at a island and I suddenly had legs! But if I get wet my tail returns. So if I dry off, I can walk again. [she grinned, pulling the cloth around her middle down, showing that it was a long white skirt, resting in her lap now. She worked on drying off while they talked]
no subject
[He lets out a breath.]
I've been sailing with my crew for over a year now, but a lot of them have disappeared over the months. [And they're on their fourth captain...] I'll have to think about it. And likely speak to your captain.
[A lifeboat filled with water is certainly...interesting. And the words "wonderful curse" seem like an oxymoron, honestly, until he watches her tail start to transform.
Then he blinks.]
Oh. Legs, really? You become fully human? That's fantastic, that must be very powerful magic!
no subject
Our captain here seems pretty good. He likes parties but he’s also strong. Have you met him yet?
[she kept working at her legs while they spoke, seeming to grin more and more because he thought it was fantastic as well. It was good someone agreed with her. Her fing faded to flash color and no scales, slowly splitting and shifting, much like a transfiguration spell. When She was done she stretched her legs out in front of her, wiggling her toes. Dry and smooth. Pushing her skirt down over her knees she giggled. leaning back on her hands and looking up at him.]
I don’t know if it’s powerful or not. One day I was waiting for the crew to finish exploring an island I couldn’t go on, and I was talking to a woman, and the next minute she was leaving and I had legs! later on I got splashed with water and fell over. I was pretty upset at first, but when I dried off again they came back. They always do!
[wiggle, wiggle, toe wiggle]
no subject
[Always a plus!
He watches her wiggle her toes and can't help smiling.]
It would be considered powerful back in my world. Anything that can physically change your form usually is. Though sometimes there are just random plants that do strange things -- we have this thing called gillyweed that allows humans to have gills for about an hour or so. And your hands and feet become webbed. I've never had any, but I always thought it might be cool.
[You know, secretly. He always secretly thought as much, not because Potter got to use it or anything, nope.]
no subject
[Toe flex, wiggle. Ohmygod she loves toes, they are the cutest things and they can pick up things and are pretty neat in sand! She moved to lean her elbows on bent knees now, her chin in her hands and watching him.]
Wow, if you can ever get a hold of some, you should really do it. Maybe some time you can go deep sea swimming with me. I could show you a lot of things, even here. There’s nothing better than the feeling of floating through water. I enjoy walking on land more than I thought I could, but I do love my home waters.
no subject
[OH, FOR THOSE DAYS...
He thinks, ignoring the fact that he can do basically all of his chores with magic.]
But I suppose it's hard to have those sort of luxuries in this world.
[Draco watches her sprawl out, looking a little amused. She reminds him a little of Pansy that way, managing to look comfortable wherever she goes. It takes him longer to get to that level, especially on a new ship like this with people he doesn't know very well yet. So he probably looks a bit stiff compared to her.]
I could ask Miss Margie for some gillyweed probably. She seems to have most everything, and I wouldn't mind trying it. It sounds like flying, being able to have that sort of freedom in the water. Sort of. Have you ever been? I know the dragons can fly.
no subject
[She relaxes easy enough. She hasn’t learned not to. And having legs to move around? It’s so COOL. So yeah, she relaxes. Also she has faith that Xingba wouldn’t allow someone on the ship that wasn’t safe, so she’s already assuming Draco is okay.]
She’s the one with the shop with everything in it, right? That would be amazing. If you get some, let me know. We can go swimming for a hour or so! [but her excitement stalled a moment, looking up at the sky] Oh, no.... I haven’t been flying yet. Fins to the sea, feet to the ground. I’m not sure on flying.
Wait... [looking back to him, surprised] You can fly?
no subject
I can! Not on my own, of course, Wizards have never managed that, but yes! Flying is brilliant. Hang on—
[He sets his book aside and reaches for his satchel, sticking his arm in and rooting around. Then after a moment or so, he pulls out his broomstick -- which looks as though it never should have fit in the satchel in the first place, since it's much too long.]
I use this. This one isn't the best model, but I thought I shouldn't get on my crew's bad side by spending half our money on a racing broom.
[Draco holds it out toward her, so she can take it if she likes. It won't do much in her hands, though, unfortunately. Then he tilts his head curiously.]
You've mentioned a Kingdom twice now. Are you royalty of some kind?
no subject
A broom? But we have one of these on deck too! For cleaning. [She learned about that one already. Huh. How weird.] Cleaning helps you fly? And how did you get this in that bag? It's so small...
[You sir, have her full attention. You're pretty fantastic and interesting. Huh? What? Oh... she blinked, then smiled.]
Right, my father. He's king of the seas back home. King Triton. I haven't really met anyone who knows him here though.
no subject
[He's still just over here grinning, because yaaay, magic talk! Though he looks a little proud of himself, too, as he holds up the bag.]
It's neat, right? It has an Undetectable Extension Charm on it. I only just recently got it right, that was a hard bit of magic to work out. It means I can keep all sorts of things in here.
[He nods toward the broom.]
Like that. It's not a normal broom, you see. Not one you'd use for cleaning. It flies!
[Then he pushes himself to his feet.]
Would you like to see?
no subject
[she's all grins now, AND his magic talk. The bag, the broom! It's all so cool and exciting to her.]
It is neat. It's like it's bigger on the inside. You did it yourself? So you know magic?
[Ug, gross, Draco. You can't impress her more. At least not until you do...]
You can make it fly.... yes, I'd love to see that! [she said, moving to her feet a bit shakily at first, getting her footing again and fixing her skirt, looking at the broom curiously, waiting to see a broom fly...]
no subject
I consider myself well read, though I'm not sure I've ever seen your name show up in relation to him.
[His smile turns into something that's a bit more smirk-like. In a teasing, trying-to-be-flirty sort of way.]
Which is a pity. But I've met you now, at least, so I can't complain. Here—
[He takes the broom back and sets it on the ground, then straightens again and holds his hand out over it.]
I do know magic. My whole world is magic. Up!
[Annnd whoosh, there it goes, rising quickly off the ground to slap against his palm. He steadies it briefly and them removes his hand altogether, leaving the broom floating in midair.]
Because I'm a Wizard. See? Flying broom.
no subject
[She gave back the broom and didn’t comment, letting the fact that his whole world was magical take over for the bashfulness. a grin spreading on her face again.]
How is that possible? [and then UP and the broom moved up and was held. then hovered on its own. Her eyes were huge and she bounced, stepped around it, and reached out to very carefully run a hand under the broom, then over it, as if looking for strings.]
Draco! That’s amazing!
no subject
It's just how my world works. We've always had magic. It's something people are born with, and then we go to school to learn how to properly use it. Much like Muggles, I suppose, just more exciting.
[And better.]
Magic is everywhere where I'm from. In the Wizarding community. Brooms like this one have various spells and charms built right into them.
[He throws a leg over the broom, then, settling onto it and kicking off the ground just slightly so that he's hovering a foot or two in the air.]
no subject
[She crouched a moment to look under the broom, then stood, bouncing once when he explained about magic and mentioned muggles and charms and everything.]
I can’t believe a broom can let you fly. Wizards must be amazing people. [you know she’s going to poke the ships broom later, in private, and giggle.]
[As he got on it she moved back a bit, hands behind her bare back and leaning forward a bit, as if to say she won't touch, but she was still looking.]
It really works! And you can actually fly about, like a bird?
no subject
[Lazily circles the broom around her.]
I can fly better than a bird. Faster. Trust me, you think floating through water is brilliant, but there's nothing quite like going into a nosedive on your broom and then pulling up at the last second. It's bloody exhilarating.
[He stops the broom in front of her again.]
Shall I take you for a quick ride? Er.
[Eyes her suddenly. It was one thing when she was a mermaid wearing the shells, that didn't seem at all...untoward. But now that she looks like a human standing there in her undergarments, it somehow feels a bit scandalous. Draco blushes, averting his eyes and clearing his throat.]
...Though, it'd probably be best if you weren't wearing a, ah...skirt. While on the broom.
[Also a shirt, or perhaps proper robes that button up all the way and don't show an inch of skin. Ahahahahaaaa.]
I can turn that into something else, if you'd like.
no subject
[When he made comment about her clothing, she blinked, looking down. They weren't shells, but a bikini top, at least. She’d learned about them from another island. Still, it might be cold up there, huh. her hands ran down over her hips, looking down at the skirt. She was more covered than she was when it was just a fin... so she didn’t get it, but...]
You can change what I’m swearing?
[magic must be so much fun. She looked up, curious faced, head tilted and hands out.] If not, I bought some things, but... but can you really change it?
no subject
[He pulls his wand out and points it at her, concentrating for a moment and then, with a few swish and flick motions, her clothes begin to change. The skirt morphs swiftly into a pair of black pants, and then her bikini top stretches and grows, covering her stomach and extending down over her arms. A cape poofs into existence out the back of it, growing in length until it nearly touches the deck.
When Draco's done, Ariel will have a brand new Quidditch uniform on! ...In Slytherin green, though. Obviously. And without any shin guards or pads or any of the extra stuff. No boots, either, but she doesn't need them.
He examines her briefly, scratching his temple with his wand.]
Hmm. I apologize if the size isn't quite right -- I'm doing it by sight, and I'm hardly a tailor.
[Plus trying to measure her would just get awkward.]
no subject
Ohmygosh! That’s so neat!
[she bounced twice, clapped a few times, and spun around, playing with the fabric and how it moved.]
Draco! That’s really amazing! And you did it with just a stick of wood.
[then, simmering down a bit, she came closer and looked excited about this, but quizzical] So I can really fly with you?
no subject
It's called a wand, actually. [Still amused, though.] It helps channel my magic. And I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't mean it.
[He holds his hand out for her to take.]
You can climb on the back. It's more comfortable than it might look, I promise, the broom has a Cushioning Charm on it. And, er, make sure to hold on. To me.
