[his arm is up, holding off three blades at once, but his muscles are shaking with the effort and he's already sweating. Sure, Zoro would like break a sweat with a workout but this is ridiculous.
With a snarl, he throws the men off and uses the momentum - aided by Sanji - to lunge to his feet and steady himself. If he's going to attempt to cut the chain, he needs the room to do so.]
Hold 'em off while I do this!
[and without warning, he pivots and puts Sanji between him and their foes, stretching the chain out taut. Go kick some faces, cook, he needs his right arm free to swing, here. Nothing in his experiences prepares him for the strike to glance off the metal, though.
His eyes go wide in shock. It's been a long, long time since he hasn't been able to cut iron or steel. Surely these chains are nothing more than that? He slashes a couple more times, but Shuusui just bounces off, raining sparks. Biting down harder on Wadou Ichimonji, Zoro tries to concentrate to put an Armament coating on the blade, but nothing happens. Nothing.]
no subject
Still, if Zoro's going to be distracted trying to free them, then Sanji needs to have his back.
Another pirate charges them and Sanji lashes out with a foot, and it's pitiful how difficult it is to balance on one leg. But if he times it right, he can at least use the enemy's momentum and sort of make them damage themselves. Case in point, this asshole clearly wasn't expecting Sanji to be able to do much of anything, and as such the shoe suddenly in front of his face takes him by surprise and he runs smack into it. There's a satisfying crunch as his nose takes the brunt of the hit, and then he's staggering backwards as Sanji smirks.]
Heh...
[He keeps his leg in the air and pivots back the other way to clothesline some other bastards who are trying to rush them, but that's about all he can manage before he finds himself utterly winded. More pirates are starting to form a perimeter around them now, and really, this isn't looking too good...
Sanji drops his leg again and tries his damnedest not to topple over as he throws a look over his shoulder to see what progress Zoro's made.
...Welp.]
Seriously?!
[It's not a jab, honest, even if his tone isn't the best when he snaps that out. He's mostly shocked. And not a little worried. Fffffuuuuck.]
no subject
What is this shit made of?! It can't be seastone, that wouldn't affect us...
[but it's starting to click with him. They weren't drugged, it's the chain. It's not just preventing him from using his dominant arm to fight, it's what's making him feel this way.
But that can't be. They're not Devil Fruit users. This makes no sense.
There's no time to contemplate, though. If they want to get out of this mess in one piece, they're going to have to buckle down and fight like the monsters they should be. It's exhausting, but Zoro forces himself to power through a couple of guys on his side, making a small opening.]
C'mon, cook!
[if they're going to have any chance, they need to minimize the number of exposed sides. Backs to a wall, with a way out nearby. He dashes through the gap in the ring and yanks at the chain with his arm - if he has to drag Sanji with him, so be it.]
no subject
Fuck, is this what that shit feels like?
[Actually, seastone might even be worse. Luffy practically turns into a shitty rubber puddle when he's near the stuff. God, it's never quite hit him until just now what an awful feeling that must be.
He's never felt this useless before, though. Being chained to Zoro pretty much takes away the option to use his arms, though he's not sure he'd be able to hold a handstand right now anyway. And his kicks aren't doing shit -- at least Zoro still has weapons that are pointy and sharp, regardless of whether or not he can properly use them.
Someone lunges at them from the side, and Sanji skids to an abrupt halt to let the chain go taut between them so he can clothesline the asshole again. Then he spins around and forces his foot into the air so he can knock the pistol out of another pirate's hands, and hey, look, now he DOES has a weapon.
...It's something, anyway. He holds it in front of him as they back into a wall, ready to fire if need be.]
Do you see anyone else? Not gonna lie, marimo, I'm not sure we'd make it back to the ship if we try to swim it.
[If they didn't drown first, they'd surely get shot in the water.]
no subject
Not from here. Dunno where Luffy ended up. [for all he knows it's a whole 'nother ship entirely] Then we'll just have to sink this one.
[bold words, for a guy who's breathing that hard and can't cut steel. Zoro's gaze zeroes in on the closest pirates, his expression turning grim and deadly. He will fuck this ship up one way or another, it doesn't matter if he feels like he's fifteen and raw again. He still has the knowledge, even if he doesn't have the strength to back it up. Kitetsu can block the center for them, while he concentrates on using the other two swords to fend off attacks from his side. Blocking is all he can manage for now, and it pisses him off to no end.]
I'll take any ideas you got, cook.
no subject
[Cuts off as he has to abruptly duck and swerve out of the way of some sudden gunfire, which means he plows into Zoro a bit there, sorry, marimo. He curses and lifts the pistol again to shoot back, then shoves away and jumps up as another guy charges at them, sword extended -- the plan is to hook his foot around the fucker's neck and slam him into the ground, except being chained to Zoro means he can't get high enough, and probably the power wouldn't have been there anyway.
So instead he just kind of ungracefully oomphs as the chain pulls taut again and ends up colliding with their would-be attack, half falling on the guy before he can get his legs where he wants them. Durp.]
Goddammit, I can't do anything with this shitty limited range!
[He's all sprawled on the deck now, his lower half tangled up with the other guy, so he just slams his foot into his face a couple times until he's free and rises up into a half-crouch, weight on one knee as he eyes their surroundings.]
If you can get ahold of one of those shitty bombs we can just blow the damn thing—AUGH!!
[......Huh, that sure was a bullet hitting him smack in his left shoulder.
Don't mind Sanji, he'll just be over here getting thrown backwards from the force of the shot. Ow.]
Motherfuck.
no subject
There's so many shots flying around them that one doesn't stand out from the rest, until he hears the scream and the cursing, and the chain on his arm yanks back again from the recoil. Zoro tips his head, but Sanji's on his blind side so he can't see exactly what happened.]
You all right?
[regardless of the answer, he pivots a bit to put his active swords toward the masses, protecting the cook with his back to him just in case.]
no subject
M'fine.
[Annnd lurching to his feet again, yep, there we go. Power through, dammit, it's just a shitty tiny injury. He lets Zoro stay in front of him, though, and flexes his left hand just to make sure everything's still okay down there.]
...Oi, you still got oil on your shirt?
no subject
[he steals a glance and for a moment, his eye widens, seeing the blood. That is not good. Not when they're both weakened by this bullshit chain. He unconsciously slides a step closer, to give them both some slack if they need it in order to move, making himself an impenetrable wall between them and their enemies.]
Don't faint on me, now, I don't got enough to carry your ass along with me.
[he would, though, if he had to. Zoro just hopes he won't have to.]
no subject
I ain't gonna faint, asshole, shit. I'm fine.
[Sort of.
He shoves his hand into his pocket, digging around.]
Anyway, look, I still got my lighter -- think we can make it to the ammo dump?
no subject
[his moves may be weaker but he can still conduct them, as long as he has the range of movement his arms require. As such, Zoro knows what he needs to do, he just has to get Sanji to work in tandem with him.]
No time to argue - get on my back.
[with Sanji's arm over his shoulder, he would have a much better chance at successfully mowing down the wall of pirates in front of them]
no subject
Though mostly because with everything going on right now, his brain is slow to catch up to Zoro's thought process.
So he just shoots an 'are you crazy?' kind of look at the back of his head.]
The hell? Fuck that.
no subject
[because he will, just watch him]
no subject
Alright, fine, geez. But don't jostle me around, shithead.
[Shoves at Zoro's shoulder to turn him the other way again, then hops right on, hooking his arm around Zoro's neck. The problem is he has to use his injured side to do so, wanting to let his other arm hang free so that Zoro can get as much use out of that damn chain as possible. He grimaces but tightens his hold and his legs to keep himself in place.]
...Gonna bleed all over your shitty shirt.
no subject
[yes, good, this he can work with. The pirates might have been confused by their arguing, but now they're ready to really attack, but Zoro is ready, too. He twists and brings his arms up and around, and throws a measly 108-Pound Cannon right at the weakest point in their line. It's nothing near his usual terror-inducing level, but the spiral of cutting air still works effectively enough, knocking back a few jerks and making enough of a hole. Growling around the sword in his teeth, he bends and charges forward, suddenly feeling Sanji's full weight as an actual burden. Doesn't matter, still gonna charge.
The ammo magazine is in the center of the main deck, so he just puts his head down and races for the mast, hunched forward to keep Sanji shifted up onto his back. The gap he made almost closes in on them, and he can feel cuts burn his thigh and arm as he blasts through the crowd, but it's enough. They can make it to their goal.]
no subject
The second they reach the magazine, Sanji drops off Zoro's back and stumbles forward to the nearest powder keg, unintentionally yanking on the chain to drag Zoro with him. He thrusts his hand out, snapping his fingers.]
C'mon, shirt, let's go. Keep those assholes back!
no subject
Oh well, he was about to say goodbye to it anyway. He reaches across to slit the sleeve with his blade and then spins around to face the pursuit]
Take it! I've got 'em.
[He pushes past the weakness and exhaustion and slashes back at the ones who got up and followed, forcing himself past his limits. The sheer anger at being weakened like this is all that's fueling him now, making his strikes erratic, but at least it does the job of holding them off long enough for Sanji to do his part.]
no subject
He snatches the shirt from Zoro and pries the cork out of the top of the barrel before shoving the shirt into the open hole, making sure that there's enough of the oil-dampened material still outside the barrel so he'll have something to light up.]
Usopp would be so fuckin' proud...
[Alright, about ready over here. Sanji pulls out his lighter and then tugs on the chain a bit.]
Listen, marimo! I'm gonna light this bastard and then we gotta get the hell off this ship -- you ready?!
no subject
[he's as ready as he can be with his hands full over here, feet planted and one eye blazing with rage as he bats away swords and takes hit after hit. Nothing like what Sanji is dealing with, but it's insulting to get bitten by so many gnats after what they've been through in their lives.
As soon as he feels the commanding tug of the chain, Zoro will be right there with him - better the sea than this hellhole.]
no subject
He clicks his lighter on, and the oil on Zoro's shirt catches the flame immediately. Sanji doesn't waste any time after that, they need to move. He forces his legs to lunge away from the powder keg and aims for the railing of the ship. Just fucking make it over there, come on. He can feel Zoro next to him, both their movements ridiculously heavy compared to how swiftly they normally can move. The clumsy run jars his shoulder, sending a shooting pain down his arm, but he forces that aside. It can be dealt with later, there's more important things—]
JUMP!
[Like making sure they can clear the ship before the shitty barrel explodes and takes the rest of the ammo dump with it.]
no subject
The ocean hits them with as much force as the explosion going off behind them, taking his breath away and forcing Zoro to clench his jaw hard so he doesn't lose the sword. Everything is heavy - his pants, his boots, the sayas at his hip, the chain, the cook. At least his body's desperate need for air keeps him kicking until he can surface again, breaking the water with a snarl and a cough. He swallowed too much seawater, he's really got to remember to put the swords away before jumping.
But first...]
...cook?
no subject
But he surges out of the water eventually, hacking and gasping for breath. His legs keep moving, fighting to keep him above the surface, but they feel like two shitty weights dragging him down and his left arm is all but useless. Trying to tread water with it is a bitch, and he blindly reaches for Zoro with his other arm, hand grasping at his shoulder. More seawater splashes into his mouth and fuck, for the first time in his life there's a faint worry lurking in the back of his head that his legs are going to fail him.]
Z-Zoro. [Weakly pushes some wet hair out of his face, looking at the other man.] You okay?
no subject
[Under the water, he shifts his grip on Shuusui and slides it into a saya, any saya, doesn't even care if it's the right one. Finally, one hand free! His left arm curls around Sanji to keep him afloat, at least as far as the chain will allow. Wadou gets sheathed next, but he can't even reach Kitetsu with his other hand. He'll just have to cling to it for now. Bits of busted-up ship are floating by in the water, so he keeps an eye out for one to haul himself onto.]
Nice move, but now we gotta get ourselves out of the water. You're not gonna last with that shoulder.
[totally trying to keep the concern out of his tone, and probably failing. It looks bad, and a dousing in seawater can't possibly be good for it]
no subject
I'm fine!
[See?
Though he sags into Zoro even as he says it and hates himself for it. He doesn't want to put any unnecessary weight on him.]
Just...find Merrily. Here—
[It didn't escape his notice that Zoro was only able to sheath two swords. Since Sanji's injured arm is already under water, he feels around, searching for the hilt or even the blade.]
Lemme help, hand it over. I won't drop it.
[He can at least manage to get it within Zoro's reach.]
no subject
Here. You got it. Right there.
[he still doesn't uncurl his fingers until he can feel that Sanji has a hold of the hilt, mainly because it's Kitetsu - the cursed sword doesn't just give its trust to anyone. Good, now he has use of his arms as well, though they're already cramped from exertion, right down to his fingers.
A toss of his head lets him look around. Hm, burning ship over there, that's not it. There's another ship very nearby, and Zoro could almost swear he just saw bubbles and lightning. The girls were supposed to be protecting Merrily, so that must be Merrily - never mind that he ought to know the figurehead and flag on sight but nooo he's paying attention solely to the fight activity on deck.]
...shit. Keimi and Lorelai are fighting. We gotta get over there.
[he has no energy at all to swim, but swim he does, keeping one arm around Sanji to pull him along. Like hell if he's going to let some stupid chain send them to an undignified and watery grave.]
