The Day o' Davy Jones

August 31st - September 7th
Isla Empieza

OPEN TO ALL PLAYERS, CURRENT AND PAST!!

The time has come. The way to Empieza is open. The mists still swirl around and the low, greenish cloud hangs heavy over the island, flickering with green lightning. But now there is a way to get in and a place to weigh anchor. The Navs seem to have stopped functioning, though. Pity.

In any case, there is a path to the central plaza of Empieza, bordered on either side by mist that feels caustic to the touch and seems almost ready to break free. From either side and within the mist are screams that linger as they fade, rattling growls, and other sounds that could induce nightmares in even the bravest of souls.

And somewhere in the mist lies Davy Jones, the rest of the shards, and a battle that will decide the outcome of this world...and yourselves.

Something had happened. Something definitely happened, and even if Gaius didn't understand just what that something was, he sensed a chance. Gan Ning did too, given the sudden order.

"You got it chief-" he said, turning to find another good position. He caught a glimpse of Hiccup and Toothless above as they raced across the oversized pirate- what the heck??

Spinning about, he let loose with another fireball to hit right after the night fury's, hoping to give the two time to get clear of the pirate again.

Gan Ning whooped with grim laughter at the way the flying pair worked. Couldn't have happened to a nicer ghost. Getting a good grip on his weapons, he took off after them, taking advantage of the moment to do some up-the-wall running himself, only up the knee and toward Jones' chest. He wasn't going to get in close enough, he knew it, so as he flung himself in a great leap as high as he could go, he jammed the Sea Master into sickly greenish flesh all the way to the hilt. As he did, he spooled out the chain on his other arm and began to whirl the sickle at the end of it, building momentum and then lashing out with it to strike somewhere - anywhere. Wherever it landed, it would at least be something.

"It hit. It hit!"

Hiccup turned as far as he could to look over his shoulder at the damage Gaius and Gan Ning lay down without mercy. He then faced front again, lowering himself to give Toothless less drag, encouraging the dragon to go even faster. "Okay. This shouldn't take long, bud. All we have to do is hit him where it hurts..."

There was something the two didn't take into consideration, however: Davy Jones was not a giant dragon, or a multi-headed beast rising from the ocean. Davy Jones had a brain just as everyone else human or human-like did. Davy Jones acted, but he also learned. And there was only so much he would take when he found out the veil of protection was already so weakened by these mere mortals.

The plan was more distraction prior to another direct attack: fly around, pick out a blind spot, and do another dive and bomb. But as Toothless flew into position, Hiccup realized too late that Davy was trying to follow their movement. Upon meeting the altitude going into the dive, the viking's mind reeled.

"No– " His teeth clenched together, grabbing hold of the grips in order to follow through with the plan. "–Toothless, j-just focus on what we're doing, we'll be fine!! Let's go, bud!!!" The descent whistled through the air as light arose, growing louder once they got within their intended range. At the last second, Hiccup jerked the saddle back as Toothless let the blast go, the sharp angle away from Jones going off without a hitch.

...If only the dragon rider veered a bit further, he and the Night Fury would have avoided that wrathful swipe of Davy Jones' great hand.

The last thing anyone would see were two figures lifelessly suddenly dropping from the sky into the drink below.

     "No-!"

Nothing that he could have flung at Davy Jones at that point could have diverted his hand, and once Gaius saw the massive pirate make contact with the Viking rider and his dragon, the spell he'd been about to fling fizzled.

They were okay, they had to be okay! They'd all come so far- no one had better die this day!

With an angry shout, Gaius charged, fading in between obstructions before bounding off of a broken chunk of masonry, lightning crackling as he spun about, practically careening through the sigil that had traced in front of him as he let the spell rip towards Davy Jones.

Gan Ning's cry died in his throat. He couldn't think the worst, he had to believe they'd hit the water and swim out, maybe they wouldn't be able to get back into the battle but they could not be dead. Not today! Focus, he told himself as he dropped back onto the pavement, both weapons dirtied. Like any battle, you keep pushing until you win and count casualties later. Nothing is lost until it's truly lost!

That didn't stop him from flying into a dangerous rage. Speed was useless to him now, so he channeled his anger into his arms and fists, darting in and hacking both weapons at Jones' leg. It was probably useless, but it was all he could do with his strength, his blades, and his know-how. He couldn't do magic, he could only fight with his arms and his back until they ached and his lungs burned in his chest. It wouldn't be enough no matter how hard he hit, how sharp the sword and sickle. Roaring in rage, he kept at it until his throat was sore and the sweat ran down his neck and chest.

...and then his shard was gone. Not plucked by Jones, no, it yanked itself off his neck and flew away. He startled at it only briefly, and that was enough of an opening for Davy Jones to bitchslap him across the...well, entirety of his body, and fling him into the shop across the street. Gan Ning would get up to keep fighting, but by then, he would be simply chasing the pirate ghost across Empieza, trying desperately to stay in this fight.

Giving up was not an option; it never was. They didn't come this far to call it quits, and they weren't about to now.

Gaius wasn't one to let his temper get the better of him, but he wasn't about to let his comrades that he'd come to know in this world be struck down by this pirate without any retaliation. Cursing under his breath as he saw Gan Ning sent flying, the thief slipped between the grasping fingers of the gigantic pirate before swinging himself up onto Jones' forearm. He raced up his arm before leaping at the fiend's face, steel gleaming as Gaius twisted to bodily swing that blade at him.

It was with a jarring clash that he ended up meeting Jones' own weapon instead, and turning the flat of his sword against it so that he could brace against it was the only thing he could do to keep from being completely cleaved in half. He could feel the metal give, chipping and finally shattering just as he felt himself falling back, earth and sky a blur with no clue as to heads or tails. As he caught a glimpse of a wall, Gaius shifted in a last ditch effort to soften his landing, although he still ended up tumbling along the stonework to land amidst a pile of rubble.
