Friends are the family you choose

Who: Antoinette crew and others (mostly non-combatants who have joined temporarily)
Where: The Antoinette

What: Crew shenanigans, both light-hearted and serious, while the rest of the ships prepare for and do battle with the witch.
Warnings: Possible strong language, will amend as necessary
Status: Open to those on the Antoinete

The Antoinette is a strange ship to be on. The (wise) decision was made not to go into battle, so it has been offered as a safe haven for those unable or unwilling to join the fight against the witch.

The air of light-heartedness found might, at times, feel forced, and it is a bit. The residents have only their morale to keep them going, so that's what they rely upon.

(Please feel free to either reply to the subject headers provided or make your own! This is just a general mingle log for anyone on the Antoinette. If your character is a non-combatant who wouldn't want to go into the fight or someone injured and unable to join the fight, Kyouya has publicly offered passage, so feel free to handwave being there.

[He hadn't expected to hear otherwise from the captain, but he didn't see why he had to be told again how Kyouya was to be obeyed. He knew that now.]

[He then let out a heavy sigh.]

But this does not mean that slapping you was right...

[He looked straight at Link in a similar manner as his father, the president of the school would usually look at the students who were brought to his attention. A look bordering between friendly and harsh.]

I have spoken to him about it rest assured. I will not condone physical violence within my crew specially when no prior violence has been shown. Mister Ootori, Kyouya's father, has done lots of good things for his children. But the manner of disciplining his children is yet to be desired. Growing up under his roof was the scariest of things, I assure you. Sadly it left an awful wound inside his children which require lots of years to heal.

Kyouya is not only my first mate, but he is a very important person to me. I've known him for so long. If you get to know him, you'll realize that he is very kind and caring.

So I am not repealing his decision. But I want you to know that I'm sorry you got hurt.

[Another not-surprising statement. Mido had never been physical with his bullying as the leader of the Kokiri, but he'd still been allowed to do it. The Great Deku Tree never ordered him to stop. Kyouya was still to be obeyed even if the punishment for not doing so wasn't a slap.]

Yes, Mister Tamaki. I understand.

[He gave a short smile.]

You should be thankful of all people, it was Kyouya who decided that you'd get off with only painting over that drawing. We could have asked you to pay 8 million yen for the damages. Or if it were the twins, you would have been required to undergo a more brutal punishment.

His request was reasonable and the tasks were not beyond you. They were not tasks that would have scarred you for life. If it were someone else, they would have thrown you out of the ship and allowed you to drown.

Understand that I'm not telling you this to defend Kyouya or to tell you that your action did not merit punishment. Cause in this situation, both of you were wrong.

Thus, both of you are getting punished...

[Now he was just outright confused. The punishment for talking back and being disrespectful had been the slap. Not the painting. Painting was a chore, a duty... and the picture was allowed to stay.

And the twins certainly hadn't punished him. Unless there were other twins than Hikaru and Kaoru.

And further, how was Kyouya being punished? And why was he being punished for telling Link to paint the railing?]

Mister Tamaki, I don't understand. Why are you calling painting a punishment? And why is Mister Kyouya in trouble for having me do that? And who are the twins?

Now I get what Kyouya said, you have so many questions. Let me go through them one at a time.

Painting was your punishment for defacing property. In truth, its quite simple if you ask me.

No, Kyouya is in trouble for something else. Which I will no longer go through the details of.

Hikaru and Kaoru. They're mischievous when bored...

Why is painting a punishment?

[He really didn't understand that one. He felt more punished by the broken leg and not being useful. Having something to do was a relief. He had never objected to the request to paint over the drawing or the railings, he had objected to the idea of having to sand it down first.]

And what kind of punishment do you think Mister Hikaru and Mister Kaoru should have given me? They didn't try to punish me for anything when they talked to me.

[Hikaru had strongly objected to his carving on the ship - which he really didn't understand at all but so far everyone on the Antoinette seemed to freak out over it for some reason.]

I even showed Mister Hikaru how to throw knives.

Because what you did, carving with your sword was not allowed. No matter how bored you are, you are not allowed to do that. So you were asked to do the painting. If you hadn't done that, there was no need for you to paint anything.

Hikaru and Kaoru at the moment are in no position to punish outsiders. But trust me... [He shudders.] You don't want to know what goes on in their minds.

No one gave mtnything to do. I was drawing. It's not going to harm the wood and no one told me any rules when I got here and no one told me I had to ask to be given chores. I thought weren't giving me them beacause of my leg.

[The boy was frustrated as much at his own ignorance at all this as he was that no one would explain it to him. When he'd asked Kyouya some of that he'd been told it was 'common sense' and then slapped when he continued to try and seek answers.

He let out a small sigh and hung his head again.]

Painting is something to do. I don't mind it. I understand that you and Mister Kyouya think it's wrong to carve pictures even if it won't hurt the wood and that Mister Kyouya thinks it's common sense that I wasn't given chores, but I don't understand why.

[There was a brief pause before he panicked, realizing it was at a similar point in his talk with Kyouya that he'd gotten slapped.]

Yes. But this ship is our property, and would like to keep it as proper as possible. Making those marks on the ship was almost the same as wounding one of us.

Now, for the lack of assignments, that I must also take responsibility for. I was still recuperating from my injuries, and I couldn't monitor you myself and had to leave my first mate to decide for me.

Talking to us, Kyouya and myself, is not necessarily disrespectful. Its how you phrase it, and whether you lack respect in doing so.

[There was a slight widening of his eyes before they looked over Tamaki, attempting to find the signs of recent bleeding. He hadn't meant to hurt any of them physically. He thought it was just wood. Not a part of them. That changed everything! No wonder they were mad at him. They could probably feel it and didn't know how to explain it to him!]

I don't mind painting. You don't have to worry about that now. You'll be okay. The wood will, too. I put two extra coats over the drawing because Mister Kyouya didn't want me to sand it so it'll still feel even with the rest of the deck.

[There was a slight pause before the princely-type fell behind his desk laughing at how Link interpreted his statement.]

No..hahaha...no... hahhahaha

...are you okay Mister Tamaki?

[He was still laughing. But after a few moments, he stops with tears in his eyes.

He places one hand on Link's head and smiles.]

I'm sorry if you got confused.

[Link ducks his head down to try and avoid the hand. Tamaki was not the first to attempt to pat him on the head in this world and it was really weird.]

It's okay.

[Maybe this means next time he was confused someone would explain things to him better. He didn't have Navi around to do that for him.]

But you're fine, right?

[He stands up and clears his throat.]

I'm sorry if I confused you. Basically this whole ship is our property. Just like we own our clothes, and your clothes are your property. When you damage a part of our ship, regardless if it was intentional or not, it is almost as if you took our clothes and destroyed it. Do you understand?

[Link frowned again, more confused. Was cutting into the ship something the could feel or not? And clothes were clothes. They were replaceable if they got damaged or destroyed. Most things were, with a handful of exceptions.

After a moment or two he gave up trying to understand why carving pictures was something they didn't want done and just nodded his head. They didn't want it done. That was probably the only part he needed to understand if they were going to be that insistent about it. A rule to be obeyed.]

Yes, Mister Tamaki.

I know it can be confusing, and I'm sorry I was too ill the past few weeks. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get through the rules with you.

However, as a Captain, I need to issue a corresponding punishment.

[Link didn't really want to be punished when he'd already been hit by Kyouya, but he understood that was Kyouya's punishment. Not Tamaki's.

Link lowered his head and gave a single, firm nod.]

Yes, Mister Tamaki.

Rest assured you are not the only one getting punished. Kyouya will be punished as well.

[He gives Link a short smile.]

Since you're leg is not feeling too well. You'll be assigned to the kitchen. Please help Haruhi peel vegetables and help Haruhi with anything she might need in the kitchen. Thank you.

[He thought that was a punishment? That was weird.]

Okay. Right now or after I finish painting?

[Tamaki may need to enforce punishment, but he wasn't too brutal about it. He also needed someone to watch over Haruhi and make sure she won't get too lonely.]

After you finish painting. Since you've started it, I don't want it left unfinished.

Are there any other concerns you might have?

No, Mister Tamaki.

[Link felt more punished by having nothing to do, but if spending time with Haruhi was considered a punishment, he wasn't going to argue it. The views of the whole crew were just plain strange to him. He wasn't going to understand it anytime soon.]

[He flashes Link a sweet smile before he returns to the papers Kyouya was urging Tamaki to read since the other day.]
