There are plenty of little lines and markings forming on the pages. The lines form shapes, but they aren't letters. Or, more like they aren't letter that are instantly recognizable, but perhaps that isn't the first time that's happened.

But some of these lines are continuous, swaying one way, gently curving back. Some are short, quick strokes hastily woven together across the page. Others are smudged, redrawn, or partially "erased."

After a few minutes of initial nonsense becomes a clearer picture:]

From what I've heard, he was headed toward the docks? That was days ago, I can't keep track of days and I haven't any sign of him since! So if you've seen him, please tell me.

What: Charged with an errand, the crew of the Antoinette goes to Sweetwater Island. Things will go awry.

For the first time since he'd come to this place -- six months, now -- Kyouya Otori was actually speechless. Not frightened, not frustrated, not angry. Simply awed.

The island was beautiful. It seemed absolutely quiet, but in a way that suggested tranquility rather than stillness. A welcoming calm, not a foreboding one.

The trees grouped together, parting in places to create paths. It wasn't natural, but it also didn't seem tended. There were no signs of branches having been cut back or the like.

Magic at work, Kyouya accepted.

"So." Somehow, on the shore, he couldn't bring his voice to be anything but a calm murmur. Anything else would disrupt the very air of the land around them. "Do we want to all go together? Or take separate paths and meet up later?"

Loans have been issued, furniture has been supplied, and food had been bought.

The deck of the Antoinette is plainly decorated. There are a few rugs about, but, for the most part, small tables are arranged with couches and chairs. Platters of food are waiting, mostly sandwiches and sweets. Little snacks. There's plenty of hot water kept on hand, too, for tea or commoner's instant coffee.

The Host Club are looking their best, even though their best might be a little more ragged than they would otherwise appear.

Posters have been put up around town, advertising the opening of the Royal Host Club, specifying the Antoinette's location, and disclosing the offer of refreshments.

On the 13th, things will only get more interesting when a bowl of candy appears overnight and adds to the Host Club experience.

The docks are usually loud and busy, but today, one ship sticks out as being particularly energetic. Those on the Antoinette are preparing a surprise for one of their crew, and they are not being quiet about it in the least. Instructions are shouted from one end of the deck to the other about decoration placement; some unlucky passers-by may wind up with rejected decorations on their heads, as anything deemed 'not good enough' will be carelessly tossed over the side of the ship.

A steady stream of food is being delivered to the Antoinette, and placed on top of a series of makeshift tables decorated with over a dozen drawings of happy tanukis, each enjoying a different meal, and each with a party hat on. Anyone who comes onto this ship and tries to eat something without permission will be swiftly descended upon by a member of the crew - this food is not to be enjoyed until the birthday girl returns.

Games have been planned; some more carefully than others. They've not managed to find a decent musician around yet, so unfortunately this party is sadly lacking in the music department - anyone with an instrument and talent would be welcomed.

All entrances to other parts of the ship have been roped off, and any attempt to explore beyond the deck will result in Trouble.

The Antoinette is a strange ship to be on. The (wise) decision was made not to go into battle, so it has been offered as a safe haven for those unable or unwilling to join the fight against the witch.

The air of light-heartedness found might, at times, feel forced, and it is a bit. The residents have only their morale to keep them going, so that's what they rely upon.

If your character is a non-combatant who wouldn't want to go into the fight or someone injured and unable to join the fight, Kyouya has publicly offered passage, so feel free to handwave being there.

You wake up in an unfamiliar town, surrounded by unfamiliar people. There's some kind of journal clutched in your hand, and as you stare blankly around you, the sky slowly starts to turn a deep, murky green.

Confused?

You should be.

If you're in the town square, you'll also see thick, greenish mist starting to pour out of the fountain. It overflows almost instantly and spreads through the streets, curling around the legs of various townsfolk who don't seem to notice. It's hard to imagine they can't feel that sharp drop in temperature, though.

Don't bother trying to get up to escape these oddities, because suddenly you'll find you can't move.

It's almost as if everything just freezes in place: people abruptly stop walking, the breeze disappears, and there's nothing but silence hanging heavily in the air.

Until a gravelly voice begins to echo inside your head.


...Dribbling cack-handed deck apes — this be the trash I ended up with?

A ghostly figure appears then, large and looming over the town. He's almost skeletal, is wearing a large pirate hat, and looks none too pleased as he makes a disgusted sound.


Aye, these maggots will have to do... There's treasure here for the taking. Ye'd be best off heading for the seas to find it.

Because if ye don't...

The figure grows larger suddenly, and the green mist now surrounding him seems to pulse with a kind of charged energy, like the thump of some far away heartbeat.


Ye'll be regretting it.

He hangs there for a moment longer, gradually looking over the town and slowing turning in midair until...he stops.

And stares straight at you.

Those dark, empty eyes bore into yours for several long seconds—

And then the figure just disappears.

The sky clears, the streets come alive again, and you're left where you were before that whole episode started: on the ground, lost in a new world, with some kind of weird journal in your hands.
